“Let me get this straight, you lot hunted Antonio and killed him but that bitch Emillia ain’t dead yet? Okay, whatever, carry on”.
”Umm, she should be dealt with by now or at least in the process of it. That task was given to another Sternritter. We haven’t been in contact with his Majesty yet so we are unsure on the progress of that. I guess you’ve encountered her before?”

Green asks his question with true intrigue because while the Quincy know that the Arrancar invaded the Soul Society, they have no clue which Arrancar fought which person. Though it is to be expected that the Captains would engage with the Espada. The odds of meeting a Captain who faced Emillia directly is quite ironic though. The Rangers don’t know much of anything about her as their target was solely Antonio. When Jushiro commented on Green’s Spirit Weapon all he could do was give an awkward chuckle. The Captain’s brand of humor isn’t exactly Green’s taste, if Blue had a voice the two would have quite the back and forth of innuendo based jokes. When Yellow finally spoke up, which caught Green by surprise, he looked at Jushiro then to Seimei to see what his response would be.
“We’re all intrigued to hear what you have to say. You may now speak”.

There was a moment of silence as Seimei seemed to reel himself in, the other four rangers only waited to hear what he had to say but Yellow was watching his body language closely. Everything Seimei did Yellow did not like in the slightest. The sudden change in his tune from a beast waiting to be let off his chain to someone happy-go-lucky didn’t sit right with him. His compliment on liking the color yellow meant nothing to the Ranger, Seimei reeked of deceit in this exact moment. While the hand left the blade physically Seimei never truly relinquished it spiritually or mentally, he was still on guard. Yellow stood up and began approaching them.
”You’re lying. That one eighty you just pulled with your personality and demeanor reeks of bull shit. Answer the question directly and don’t dance around it because your behavior is offensive! We are extending an olive branch and you’re like a sniper in the distance with his sights trained on our heads. We haven’t-”

Red Ranger Theme

Red places a hand on Yellow’s chest to stop his advance and, in a way, stop him from talking. The only one still beyond any sort of imaginary threshold is Green, Yellow was dangerously close to crossing it as he himself was becoming hostile due to Seimei’s behavior. Red tells Yellow to calm down and go sit down, the fact that Yellow became so agitated put all the Rangers on edge because it means he sees something they don’t.
”You gotta give my friend some slack here. Yeah, we’ve observed ya, watched ya galavant through the air fightin and killin Hollows and the like, zero hesitation mind ya. So, needless to say, we kiiiinda gotta profile ya. Ya’ll do seem rather hostile from an observation standpoint and ya buddy there, Mr. Captain, ain’t helpin the allegations. Only guy we came to fight today was Antonio, I just wanna get back home and pass this burden off to his Majesty. The burden of peace talks, that is, hell, you can already tell that we can’t really say or answer much. We’re just trying to make a good first impression and play middle man for our boss, much like you.”

The leader of the Rangers finally speaks up, his way of talking is more confident and more relaxed in his manner of speaking. There is not an ounce of formality to his tone other than when addressing his Emperor, referring to him as his Majesty. While talking he signals for Green to back up and once his teammate is behind the invisible line of hostilities Red takes his place. They only want one Ranger approaching these Shinigami at a time, despite the fact the two of them are standing relatively close together.
”Yo, Ukitake-san, was it? I’m gonna tell ya this. You can’t bullshit a bullshitter and Yellow is the biggest one around, respectfully of course. If he says somethin stinks I ain’t got a reason not to believe em. So if he says you’re lyin about your aggression I got no reason to not believe em, know what I mean?”

Red speaks with a constant grin on his face, it is neither chastising or menacing, in fact, despite them only being in his presence for a short bit, they can almost tell that this is just his resting face. Teeth always showing, mouth always fixed into a smile.
”I get it, we are an unknown threat, never seen our kind before or interacted with us. Fear of the unknown and what not. So, how about we call a spade a spade. Don’t pin it on your Captain, you clearly saw that we aren’t bothered by him. Blue is just as bad if not worse so Captain Izanagi’s interaction felt rather normal for us. You probably ain’t afraid of us, I don’t really care either way. But if you put your hand on your blade…”

His tone drops to a venomous level, dripping with malice and killing intent. In a flash of red Reishi Red forms his bow and already has an arrow drawn and aimed at Seimei. That grin is still present on Red’s face.
”You better be ready to use it. Don’t flash it if you ain’t gonna draw it, get what I’m sayin?”

Both the arrow and his bow dissipate back into ambient Reishi as he lets out a laugh before looking back at Jushiro. Its clear that Red's intentions were purely educational, Jushiro should be able to perceive that. Seimei on the other hand more than likely wont be able to. For that very brief moment he may have thought his life is in danger, that this Ranger was about to attack him with an unknown weapon.
”Sorry bout that, ain’t tryin to overstep and educate your teammate like that, hahaha! But he seems young, I’m sure it's a lesson you would have taught em at some point. That being said, we should probably call it here and head back to our bosses now. Seems like Ukitake-san and Yellow ain’t mixing well today, whaddya say? Or do ya still got more questions for us?”

Red clasps his hands together politely waiting for a response. Meanwhile Green relayed to Pink that Jushiro was sorry about his comment, of course she just rolled her eyes and looked away again now that the drama had settled down. Yellow is off to the side with his arms crossed, no longer observing the two Shinigami now that Red had stepped in. He is still agitated by Seimei’s earlier aggression and attempt at trying to hide it under a rushed and what he views as a poorly constructed lie. It now seems like first contact with the Shinigami is coming to a close, what happens next for these two factions falls upon the meeting their leaders will have in ten days.

The soldier watched as she released control of the room they shared and walked across it to retrieve a tipped over chair in the wake of the aftermath. He watched her every move, the way she raised her arm, right down to the style of the way she stepped, this was normal for him, he liked to understand the entire person before him before making concrete actions. She sat in the middle of the room and then began as she explained her life story.
“I have a deep seeded fear of Hollows. It is crippling, if there is a term stronger than phobia it would have to be that. The way they howl, how they look, the hole in their bodies, it's all so… Terrifying. So, imagine my surprise when I end up in their home world or whatever you would call it. Nothing but white sand and dead trees as far as the eyes can see…” she intoned. Visibly uncomfortable, and her readings were all over the place as she went on, Han knew that this was the raw truth he was getting. “Adonai and his people, the Quincy, found me and took me home. Simple as that, no bargain, no ultimatum, nothing. Like I said, I was the one who reached out and offered to find others like me because he saved my life. So if you want to meet with him, sure, fine I’ll pass the word along and see what happens from there. As far as what he has to offer you that ain’t something I can answer because I don’t know.” she finished.

Standing up fully into her slight frame, now looking visibly grounded, she looks around once more.
“My manners are telling me I should apologize for making a mess of your little room here, but I refuse. You pissed me off. I hope you learn how to talk to people by the time you meet up with Adonai. As far as I can tell he is a nice guy, so you may have better luck with him than me.” she said.
"Hmph. Next time, leave ugly threats at the door, then maybe we can get somewhere faster." he responded in kind.

Turning on her heel, and giving a wave before sauntering out of the room.
“Let's meet up again though, under more friendly, less business related terms.” finally taking her leave.

Han stood in the room now alone, de-empowering himself from the body shield he made at a moment's notice. He sighed as he crossed his arms, thinking about what to do next. Suddenly a voice interrupts his train of thought.
“Sir, are you alright?” the assistant from earlier asked.

He knelt down and analyzed the room, traces of spiritual pressure were left by Victoria as she walked over to the window. He purses his lips from side-to-side then stands up to his full height and takes his own leave from the room. While exiting he instructs his assistant on her task.
“Clean this room up, get the science division down here and analyze the traces of spiritual power.” He began to take his leave from the doorway, but stopped just short of a step before asking another thing. “When was the last time I…went out…?” he asked, uncertainty riddled in his voice.
The assistant giggled and thought about her answer, saying, “It's been years sir. Shall I organize a table or booth somewhere? ‘Remeltindtdrinc’, perhaps?” she said coyly.

She built a career off of knowing the man intimately, today would be no different.
“Bingo. Make sure it's for tonight, and I want it to be at her main location chain.” he said as he walked off. “D.O.M., You there?” he asked aloud.
“At your request, sir.”
“Start a file, name it ‘Quincy’. Add the subfile, ‘Adonai’. Add keywords, ‘Lichtreich’, and 'medallion'. Take all footage from today's meeting and begin a deep search of all things pertaining to these words. I want a report on all the current information that we can find on the morrow. I’ll do some digging on my own.” he said decisively.
“Right away, sir. One thing I would however like to caution.”
“What?”
“What if they aren’t a threat to be monitored?”
“Everyone is a threat to be monitored, it's exactly how I became rich—by not turning a blind eye.” he said bluntly.

Jushiro_commission_face_alt_1.png

The Captain took some comfort in knowing that Emillia was also being hunted by the Quincy’ and the Shinigami at the same time. He’ll be able to rest a little easier once she is off the board. And on the question of whether or not Jushiro had encountered her before. The silver-haired man gave a nod to it as confirmation. Fully aware that the Espada which invaded the Seireitei over a decade ago, possessed Soul King fragments, he figured that Adonai may have deemed her a sinner. And after Antonio’s demise, he suspected that it was only a matter of time. Nothing more was said about the Espada, at least not yet. The time to revisit such a topic will come later. They now had a situation developing with Seimei.

Jushiro waited with anticipation for Seimei’s response to the questions raised. Just what was he afraid of? The masked one fell silent, adjusting his stance ever so slightly to keep tabs on Seimei’s body language. Meanwhile continuing to keep track of the Quincy quintet present. The fourth seat made his introduction which was the right way to go about things. A good way of putting in the work to defuse the situation. However, as he spoke, Jushiro couldn’t help but be surprised. It wasn’t about what Seimei said, not yet. This was more about his tone, an upbeat, merrier and jovial tone. The man seemed to be mimicking his Captain’s own approach. Something that came natural, which often leads to an effortless transition into seriousness. He pondered on how the Quincy’ may yet receive Seimei’s words.

The mask being worn by the Captain changed its current depiction, the words ‘Absolute Bullshit’ appeared on its surface, followed by hands clapping, thanking Yellow for calling it as he sees it. The Ranger may yet wonder why the Captain didn’t outrightly show support for Seimei. The truth is, if Seimei is to let go of old habits, then these are the things that needed highlighting. The emerald-eyed man had a crappy poker face so to speak. Seimei needed to become better at hiding his true feelings. Only then could he properly navigate certain spaces without suspicion. He was far too obvious. Regardless of Yellow calling him out, Jushiro remained silent, a smirk quietly manifested on the mask.

Jushiro continued to watch the interaction between all parties involved. Red stepping in to halt Yellow’s advance revealed a few more things about the Rangers. Green appeared to be the spokesperson, Yellow was constantly on overwatch and Red seems to be the one with the final say. From earlier interactions, Green was constantly seeking confirmation and approval. Red confirmed his status as leader mere moments after as the others fell back as he addressed the Shinigami. Jushiro was unmoved, listening carefully to what Red was presenting to them.

As Red continued to address them both but more so Seimei. Jushiro found himself trying to hold back on his laughter. On this occasion the mask settled on depicting a smirk. He couldn’t show too much support for what they were saying. The Captain watched Red’s display with his spirit weapon. It was amazing to see the difference between a Zanpakuto and these Reishi based weapons.

“He is young in his thinking”. Jushiro said in agreement with Red. It is something that the Captain observed not too long ago. However, there was a reason for this. “As for some of Yellowman’s questions earlier. I’m far from peaceful, I am just the right level of necessary. I suppose we can draw some similarities between ourselves. I mean, one of my subordinates described you eliminating Antonio as nothing but sport. That kind of brutality is enough to put anyone on edge, no? Young Seimei’s actions come from a form of discipline that’s not appreciated by all”.

He said while motioning towards Yellow. The man paused before continuing to add a few more caveats.

“He was trained to always be aware, ready to go just in case something pops off. Without rambling on too much, I’m currently in the process of showing him another path. However, it can be exhausting trying to get him to lighten up. I find him to be more like a virgin about to get lucky. Ready to slide in with no real build up. Ya know like, sweet words to get someone in the mood. No real tenderness to stimulate arousal, he just wants to go in dry and raw. And that ain't gonna be welcomed, which is why we had that earlier exchange. You understand what I’m tryin’ to say?”.

Jushiro is certainly one of the more unorthodox among the Shinigami. In some ways, Seimei is absolutely right to keep an eye on him. In this scenario it wasn’t about who was wrong or right, it was a matter of perspective. And Jushiro understood it from both points of view. A sigh was heard coming from the Captain as he glanced over at Seimei and then a shake of his head. The masked one chose not to highlight the Quincy obedience as it pertains to eliminating threats. They were charged with killing Antonio, a creature deemed to be a sinner by their Emperor. And that they did and Jushiro suspects that they had no qualms about enacting such violence. There are many layers to this and both parties knows this to be true. In the end, the Captain figures that it will come down to differing points of view.

“In any case, lets not dwell on things for too long and hold off on the apologies. The lil fucktard will soon learn a valuable lesson. I mean look at him, you can tell he’s still a virgin. Likely a pie wanker. In any event, I’m more interested in learning even more about Quincy culture. However, that will have to wait until next time round. Ten days it is. Next time let Blue face do the talking. And don’t worry, we’ll be able to communicate just fine”.

Even in the more serious situations the Captain found the time to inject some humour. Hopefully now they will have an accord and all that was left to do was get both the Emperor and Sotaicho in the same location. Jushiro was hoping he’ll be invited to tag along on such an occasion. After all, without him none of this would be possible, right? Yes, he will no doubt take the credit for it.

Seimei Ukitake (浮竹 清明)

1779306336726.png

Seimei was used to looking death straight in the eye—he was no stranger to pressure and physical threat. However his first and foremost emotion was shame, and that of some sort of failure. His poker face didn’t hold up well enough, and even his cover up failed. The Yellow Ranger was indeed sharp, clearly a brilliant tactical mind as he did well in picking up Seimei’s mannerisms and thoughts. It was evident that each of the Rangers possessed a specific strength or a trait that complimented one another, forging them into quite a unit. That was certainly something he’d picked up.

Nonetheless, he let the failure seep through, as it showed his face as his expression seemed to become a slight bit more gray and almost frustrated even. But, this was yet another lesson for him to learn. From listening to the Red Ranger to his emerald eyes reflecting the crimson hue of the glowing Reishi weapon—Seimei’s sole emotion was humility and it was very much visible. And as much as he wished to go and have a rant after hearing what his captain had to say, he was right about almost everything he said. Except for the fact that he was a v… Well, let’s not distract ourselves from the substance here. Despite his slight visible discomfort due to failure or rather shame, he retained a firm posture and never wavered or showed any signs of fear. His face didn’t twitch, he speech didn’t stutter. Given that he hadn’t spoken yet.
”Eh, he’s right again unfortunately. Another trait I need to learn to let go of.”

He thought to himself in silence as it seemed that the lesson that began in the training field of their barracks seemed to carry into their current mission—and diplomacy or chatter was never a strong suit for Seimei. Yet more skills to develop, and considering his youth he had room for more certainly. But indeed, Seimei’s past as a former member of the Onmitsukidō seemed to seep into their current mission. However, he wasn’t accustomed to facing unknowns or threats that he wasn’t familiar with or threats he hadn’t had kept tabs on. Jushiro-sama couldn’t have worded it much better—they’d just obliterated Antonio. And seemed rather fresh in doing so. His alertness was certainly justified in a sense. However, he learned something that perhaps would play to his advantage later.
”The way they utilize Reishi to form their weapons is impressive. He did it immensely quickly as well. But now that I know how they do it… You’d also know what to do, Mugenrō.”

His mind was filled with thought as his eyes now turned to his captain, awaiting for his signal to leave as he gave thought to his Zanpakutō, Mugenrō. Due to the unique ability of his blade, learning the way how Quincy form their spirit weapons was in fact quite useful. However, that would only be useful if it ever came to that. He then turned his emerald gaze quickly back onto the Green Ranger as he bowed respectfully, placing both of his hands on his thighs and acted with the discipline of a proper soldier.
”My captain is right. I have much to learn. I hope our alliance will prove fruitful.”

He spoke with a tone of apology, respect and calmness beneath his breath as he now only waited for his captain's orders as he straightened his back. He was intrigued by the Blue Ranger, considering that he did appear the most intimidating out of the five and hadn’t spoken a word yet. But, he hoped he wouldn’t have to see any of what he was capable of at this point in time.

Red tilted his head curiously because he didn’t understand what he meant by brutality, nor did he see what was so special about Antonio. He glances back at his fellow Rangers almost like he was relaying the same thought to them mentally, although he wasn’t actually doing this. Blue shrugs at him but to be honest he was just shrugging to let Red know not to ask him anything. Red looks back at Jushiro and speaks plainly to him.
”I don’t get what you mean, he was just your run of the mill Arrancar. Nothin special about him in the slightest. Honestly, without a Soul King fragment a lot of em aren’t a threat if you study em enough. So we may have faced off against two very different versions of Antonio, yours with a Soul King Fragment and ours without. But if that’s not the case then I don’t know what to tell ya.”

Red then listens to Jushiro’s reasoning for why he was so apprehensive to begin with.
“He was trained to always be aware, ready to go just in case something pops off. Without rambling on too much, I’m currently in the process of showing him another path. However, it can be exhausting trying to get him to lighten up. I find him to be more like a virgin about to get lucky. Ready to slide in with no real build up. Ya know like, sweet-”
”Good lord shut up! This has officially become insufferable, I’m out of here.”

She leaps off the edge of the building and her Reiatsu signature completely vanishes without a trace. Green sighs and rubs the back of his head looking in the direction where she leapt off.
”I’ll go catch up to her to make sure she's alright. Nice meeting you, Shinigami! Both of you!”

Green leaps off the edge and just like Pink his signature is completely gone. Only Red, Yellow and Blue remain and they don’t seem to be ready to leave just yet.
”I umm… I’ll keep that in mind…
”My captain is right. I have much to learn. I hope our alliance will prove fruitful.”
”I hope so too, I just hope your leader isn’t so… Colorful with his choice of words like your Captain here is. Anyway, we’ll get out of ya patrol space now. If things go well we may run into each other again if not then, I don’t know haha! But I’m banking on things going well, it's nice to live a normal life, even if only part time. See ya.”

Red turns around and approaches the other three remaining Rangers and the method on how Pink and Green vanished is revealed to the Shinigami. The Quincy’s own shadows extend away from their bodies, forming a murky silhouette of themselves. They walk into it and just like that the silhouettes are gone and so too are their Reiatsu signatures. In one last act of kindness the Quincy demonstrates how they travel between worlds. Now the Rangers next assignment is to report to Adonai at the meeting in Silbern.

Jushiro_commission_mask_alt_1.png

Jushiro carefully observed the reactions of the Quincy’ quintet to his words. Taking stock of their varied personalities, their temperament and tolerance levels. Seeking any subtle changes in their demeanour, seeking to learn even more as their interaction continued. His eyes didn’t miss Red looking back at his fellow Rangers before addressing the Captain. Jushiro noticed the same pattern with Green, while the others gazed off into nothingness and others remained observant. The dynamic was intriguing to the Captain. In some ways, it’s almost as if they needed to be in agreement with one another for things to truly work.

“Sooka”.

The masked one nodded while thinking about what Red had mentioned. The Espada did seem to find more confidence, almost assuring themselves of victory due to the Soul King fragments. Their invasion was proof of that. And yet Antonio was defeated in no time. Jushiro agreed with Red’s assessment of Antonio’s condition at the time of his defeat. He must’ve been without the Soul King fragment. The better question is, what happened to it? The Captain was thinking about the time since the Espada suddenly withdrew from the Seireitei. Their leader, Valiosa who took on a ginormous form had become horrified. She was frightened to the point where the idea of crushing the Seireitei suddenly vanished.

There was no way Antonio still possessed any fragments.

As things progressed though, a raised eyebrow was depicted on the surface of the mask. It became animated as Jushiro took note of Pinky’s reaction. It didn’t interrupt his flow, it was a minor issue as far as he was concerned. What caught Jushiro’s attention was the sudden disappearance of her Reiatsu signature. How odd and perplexing to say the least. This phenomena will have to be addressed later.

A soft smile replaced the raised-eyebrow that was depicted on the mask. Seimei’s words showed that there was still hope for him. There appeared to be a willingness to learn from his mistakes. The Captain did nothing but chuckle at Red’s comment before directing a goodbye wave in his direction. He remained focused on their method of departure. And there it was, revealed for the Shinigami to see. Jushiro figured that it was all intentional which created a dilemma. What is their objective? The silver-haired man turned and faced Seimei, he was silent for a moment.

“That Pink ranger, she seems to be carrying quite a bit of trauma. That one is easily triggered and it seems I’ve figured out how to get under her skin. I don’t suppose being a perfect gentleman next time will be of any use. I would have to save her life for her to see things differently. Ah well”.

He said after breaking the silence again in a most casual and uncaring way. He said it almost absentmindedly. After all that was revealed earlier, surely that wasn’t his only concern? Jushiro’s hand shifted to the hilt of his Zanpakuto, drawing his blade from its sheath.

“I hope you’ve documented everything that was said. We will compare notes later on. Let us return to the Seireitei and report this to the Sotaicho immediately. I hope the place hasn't burned down during our short absence. Another thing Seimei, I need any eye witness report from earlier, including the one from the bumbling buffoon. Furthermore, I want you to gather a team and re-visit past reports that may have indicated Quincy activity”.

With that his blade was stabbed off to the right, piercing an invisible barrier. His wrist turned slightly as if using a key to unlock a door. A Senkaimon door was opened from this motion as the Captain sheathed his blade. He didn’t waste anytime whatsoever stepping through. It was time for them to return home and make others aware of their encounter.

Seimei Ukitake (浮竹 清明)

1779479681454.png

There was a certain silence that Quincy left in their wake that felt heavy, and strangely so. It was a meeting of two worlds, and only one of them seemed to be a stranger to the other. Seimei still processed and thought about everything he’d learned, but one thing was for sure—the Quincy have had means to gather information on them while staying fully hidden. Isolation didn’t explain a thing. The amount of information they seemingly had about their military structure was impressive. They could possibly even know their numbers, which was a frightening prospect. His restless mind now guided his emerald eyes as they looked into the emptiness left by the rangers, having just witnessed them vanish into their own shadows.
”Whatever they did to disappear… No wonder we’ve never encountered this Lichtreich or the Quincy altogether. Whatever they do doesn’t look like anything we’re used to, it’s fundamentally different to Garganta or Senkaimon.”

His thoughts churned as he did his best in forming an internal map, an analysis of who and what he’d just witnessed. The Green Ranger seemed to lack confidence and sought approval from his partners. The Red one seemed to be the natural leader, and immediately took leadership when the situation demanded it. The Yellow Ranger was immensely observant, clearly sound at deducing and was perhaps somewhat similar to himself. The Pink Ranger, well, she was rather detached. And the Blue one felt somehow terrifying, but perhaps that was because he hadn’t spoken a word.
”…The way they disappeared into their own shadow. It’s like this realm they went to is tied to their very own being. They’re fundamentally different from both us and the Hollow. They’re so different that it’s no wonder we’ve had no clue about them or how they move around. I don’t think we have the means to detect something like that.”

His thoughts moved forth as his emerald gaze now moved onto the captain. It was somewhat mind boggling to him that he was capable of talking about things with such casualness to it. Absurdly casual. But, his assessments were very correct as soon as you removed the absurdity from them. The Pink Ranger did seem to react powerfully to certain topics, more so than to others when you consider how detached she seemed altogether. Izanagi-sama seemed to poke the right bear. Her reactions were mental notes to be stored away.

Seimei nodded calmly as soon as Captain Izanagi began to give his orders—as it stood, Seimei had taken mental notes of everything available and his documentation was as good as ready to be turned into a report. He also took note of how the Captain’s behavior changed so quickly. He was almost like an entirely different person while talking to the Quincy compared to now. Seimei certainly had a lesson or a few to learn from his liege in that sense as well. It seemed that they both had come to identical conclusions based on the orders he gave:

The Quincy have been around for a bit. Even if this was the beginning of their visibility, this was far from the beginning of their activity. They clearly had the means of being elusive to Gotei and Seireitei, lurking in the shadows they’d hidden in. But where were those shadows, and what is this shadow? Who is their Emperor who can give such orders with such stance and morality? There were many question marks, and Seimei was eager to find out more.
”I’ll file in the eye witness reports and all the necessary documentation after our meeting with Sōtaichō, Izanagi-sama. I will also begin gathering the team right after that.”

He said with the tone of a fine soldier and discipline to his breath and voice. As for gathering the team, he already had one name in mind—Yuto Togami. He wanted to see him regardless, and having him on his team would be one merry reunion. Seimei had quite a bit of work on his hands, but he didn’t shy away from any of it. Seimei then watched as Izanagi-sama used his Zanpakutō to split the air and once more open the bridge back home, to Seireitei. He began to step directly after his captain, moving behind him in silence as his mind still played different scenarios, thoughts and ideas about.
”Where’d Antonio’s Soul King Fragment go? What’s happened to the rest of them? Considering they’ve been hunting these ’Sinners’, all of this looks doctrinal, purposeful. I’ll start digging right away!”

He spoke within as the split in the air closed behind them as both Seimei and Jushiro vanished into the bright bathing light of the Senkaimon—a path that contradicted the murky shadows of the Quincy in all ways possible.

The fateful meeting between Shinigami and Quincy had arrived. Whatever mental image the Shinigami had of the Quincy Emperor may have been shattered upon laying eyes on the rather plain looking Adonai, his name alone is the only grandiose thing about him. The short well kept hair and chin hair, a uniform that looks like it is standard issue among their ranks, and relaxed facial features that seem like this is a man who spends more time laughing than yelling. All of this to say that the silent sentinels that flanked him struck a more menacing aura than him.

Adonai looked at the Central Forty-six representative, then to Captain Izanagi, then towards Seimei Ukitake. His gaze lingered on Seimei as he was the one reported to be quite hostile during the meeting. There was nothing felt from Adonai’s gaze, if anything it probably felt more awkward than menacing. With the sizing up out of the way the Emperor was the first to speak and bring this meeting into motion.
”A pleasure to finally meet with… What I can only assume is a representative of Shinigami leadership.”

Adonai is sharp.
”I won’t pry for details over that, it’s your business. As my Rangers said, ten days ago, we Quincy come in peace. We have lived in the human world for the last nineteen years and many of my people have carved out meaningful lives here and I wish for them to continue doing so without scrutiny. That aside, I come to you today to form a treaty of peace and non-aggression between our people. I would also like to deepen that by eventually being able to work side by side with Shinigami.”

Adonai holds up his hand and a black substance spills forth from it, something that could only be described as a Shadow. Out of it falls two body bags. The bags contain the Quincy symbol, a five star cross located at the head of each bag. He frowns, looking towards the Shinigami before him, a subtle sign that he is getting rather serious.
”Ten years ago you were attacked by a group of Arrancar bearing parts of the Soul King. Upon their retreat we intercepted them in Hueco Mundo, in Las Noches specifically. I personally tended to the culling of their upper ranks, those who possessed the Blood, Heart and Eyes of the Soul King. My Quincy then decimated their strong hold along with any loyalist they may have had. Much to our surprise we ran into a couple of defectors, the body bags before you are their remains.”

Adonai placed his hands behind his back looking at those gathered to make sure they are following along with what he is saying. He takes a deep breath, his nerves getting to him as he has to delve into some rather hard hitting truths and information.
”We interrogated them, wanting to know what they were after. Their goal was simple: take over the Soul Society. Their method of take over was anything but simple. Before you lay the Mother of Vizards, Kano and Sagishi Hashimoto, former Captain of Fifth Division. Apparently they used a civil war as cover to slip out of Soul Society? I do hope those tumultuous times are behind you. My people had to deal with something similar about twenty years ago now.”

He is stalling, hesitating about getting to the real point he is trying to make. He is not withholding information, just hesitant to get out with it.
”These two wanted to take the Soul King’s power and rule with it and the Arrancar were to be tools to gather and hold his parts for them to take and assimilate for themselves later. Needless to say, that plan struck a chord with me because… The Soul King… Is… My father.”

Silence, maybe even a chuckle of disbelief from the Shinigami side, if there was one Adonai wouldn’t blame them. His words alone sound foolish, ridiculous and almost discrediting. At this point they might assume Quincy are just an organized bunch of Fullbringers. Where words fail, actions show the way. Adonai would not let his words alone be the proof, they will see it in his eyes.

Revelation

His eyes move to the left like slides moving out of the way for the next one in line. In their place three pupils appear along with a subtle shift in his Reiatsu.
”I am not here to lie or jest, to deceive or scheme. I am here to be truthful and forthcoming with you about who and what we Quincy are. Above all else, I desire peace. Those who desecrated my father had to pay the price, surely you could understand this? As it stands one Arrancar still exists with the Spine, Emillia. Pink hair, sporting a half mask as a fragment, Hollow Hole in the middle of her chest. The parts I have already taken are being kept in our realm of Lichtreich, locked away. I will not allow further desecration of my father to persist. Seeing how the Three Worlds are doing just fine I am only to assume he is safe in your care and I thank you deeply for that. Now… Forgive me for talking one-sided in all this haha I’m sure you have a bunch of questions, ask away and I’ll answer anything you want.”

The casual laugh, his eyes and Reiatsu shifting back to normal, it was all so pedestrian for someone appearing to be, in all regards, the Soul King’s son. He is everything an Emperor isn’t and that could create an air of unease around him meaning that he could be unpredictable in all aspects.

Seimei Ukitake (浮竹 清明)

The last ten days had more than shaken Seireitei. Time was a currency that the Shinigami seemed to play with all too much without realizing how precious it was to them. So was security, peace, integrity. Captain Itaku Ōhei was gone after he allowed the monster within him to consume the bright and immensely talented Shinigami that he once was. But, his cleansing—the extinguishing of his existence was perhaps for the best. A mistake originally made by Central Forty-Six who now had to head this meeting due to their Captain Commander being similarly displaced. The circumstances of that were vague, but the failure of keeping Itaku Ōhei in check was wholly blamed on him. His tenure was short-lived, and perhaps would have deserved a stronger test of time. But again, time was a currency their kind spent too carelessly. And today, that would have to end. Seireitei was once more weakened, ravaged by its internal failures and lack of capability. They were all matters that himself and Captain Izanagi Jushiro had discussed and pondered when they witnessed the duel of the captains. And this situation they found themselves in was the one Seimei feared the most. For they were fully unprepared to deal with anything that the people before them could pose.

But Seimei had fully learned his lesson from his previous encounter with the Quincy. He discarded his nature, his impulsive need to swing his Zanpakutō mindlessly.

His mind was now empty, and his doubts quenched beneath a wall of coldness and duty. He couldn’t afford mistakes. The future of Seireitei could well be on the line today, and the diplomatic relations between the two species would shape not only the future of Seireitei or Lichtreich—but the Three Realms as a whole. That was the weight and the burden that Seimei carried with him here, but he let none of it show despite the sense of unfamiliarity that could’ve urged him to do otherwise. His posture was one of absolute attention, heels clasped tightly against one another as his toes pointed out at a slightly diagonal angle. His hands were crossed behind his back, well avoiding the hilt of his Zanpakutō. A striking difference to the behavior displayed merely ten days earlier. His blonde hair billowed lightly in the constant, quiet and soft wind that trespassed them. His emerald gaze registered the sentinels that accompanied the Emperor, as in his mind he found them far more daunting and intimidating than their liege. Often things that you couldn’t perceive frightened you the most. Their faces were clad and hidden behind black, reflective glass-like casing while wearing white uniforms of design very alien compared to the Arrancar or the Shinigami.

The contrast in culture was stark and clear.

But Seimei showed no fear. This time he let no such thoughts in, he had decided to see and hear these people long before this meeting. Which in itself was a stark contrast to how he acted in the first meeting.

But then his eyes met with the gaze of their leader—Adonai. Without a doubt the Rangers had told him about him, considering how he acted during their first meeting. But to be acknowledged and having gained awareness of such a figure felt somewhat daunting to Seimei, but that he also hid beneath his far less apparent mask. He was a man who had dealt in subterfuge for the most of his career. His breathing rhythm was even, his Reiatsu stable, and his mind and spirit well in balance. He had indeed heard the advice of his captain, and he didn’t intend on betraying those lessons. But beyond their gaze locking, Seimei was invisibly taken aback by the appearance and the demeanor of the man before him. For a man that was almost revered as a God, he was very… Ordinary. He looked like any man would. He did carry a certain sense of nobility to him, but it was evened by a sense of humility in the same breath.
”Heh, no wonder he commands such loyalty. Perhaps our future Captain-Commander should take a look at him for inspiration.”

Seimei thought to himself, as his expression remained ever stable and focused—calm. And then the Emperor began to speak, and he had much to say. And much to show. The corpses of their fallen enemies. That aroused many emotions within Seimei, feelings that would be hard to contain. But above all, a sense of relief. And almost thankfulness. The enemy of their enemy was truly a friend, it seemed. All the while the Quincy showed that they were more than capable of dealing with threats that they had struggled dealing with.

They succeeded where the Shinigami failed. And that alone was telling.

What transpired next explained everything and nothing all at once. The moment Adonai explained what happened in Hueco Mundo, Seimei felt a loose sensation on his chest. Like something had been lifted off his heart, but not completely. Justice carried out but not by those who had suffered it truly, although it seemed that the Quincy had more than a reason to do what they did. There was a closure and a finality to the horrors that the Arrancar had put the Soul Society through. The fragments of the Soul King locked away and contained away from undeserving hands of those filthy beasts. The Quincy and even more so Adonai himself had gone into Hueco Mundo, even Las Noches itself. That also confirmed that the spike and the loss of activity they had monitored in Hueco Mundo was in fact caused by the Quincy, and not Hollow infighting or some insurgence.
”They didn’t merely beat this filth, they ended a war on our behalf… That’s quite something.”

He ruminated internally, keeping his thoughts and feelings to himself. Seimei’s gaze narrowed, looking upon the bags containing the corpses of their former enemies. But then Adonai spoke something that caught his attention wholly, as if snapping him out a dream he never dreamt.
”S-Son of the… Soul King?”

Son of the single most entire being in their entire universe? The creator, their king? He thought the words within his mind. His gaze then returned and looked into Adonai’s eyes—seeing the three pupils. That was enough of a confirmation. He’d seen such only once in his life. On that fateful day. He sensed the shift in his Reiatsu all the same. His gaze then turned upon his captain next to him. Not out of haste or panic, but merely to see whether he heard the same words as he did.

But Seimei gathered himself and offered no reply. He was in no position to speak, not yet. There were many present that outranked him, and he wouldn’t break his station. Not even now. He kept listening to the Quincy Emperor, tracking and memorizing his every word. What perhaps surprised Seimei was the sheer honesty, laying everything on the table. That wasn’t an act that a man hiding something would do. But what was clear was that they were never just evaluating them.

They knew exactly what they were dealing with.

And beyond all, what did mean to be the son of the Soul King?
