Naruki City

Ten long years of confinement inside the Seireitei. And now finally Jushiro Izanagi, Captain of the tenth division had a legitimate reason to visit the world of the living. It was exciting, to him it felt like freedom. He lusted over basking in the air of the city he was charged with protecting. It had been so long, he couldn’t help but wonder just how much things changed within that time. Were there new buildings? Possibly a new bakery for that funky Arrancar Estarossa to send his mates on errands? If memory serves right, the last one was destroyed during an incident. One where he met a long time opponent, that jagged-teeth Witch. Emillia whatever the rest of her name was. Her resurrection transformed her into something unsightly, but she has a nice body though. Then there was that trifling human (Victoria)who managed to suck the air out of his lungs. That too felt like sorcery at the time. Was she actually human and whatever happened to her and that loud mouth she was rolling with? The memories, some were fond memories and others left a bitter taste in his mouth.

He was edging closer to his destination and all of those memories were cast to the wayside. The Captain was only here for one reason and that was to deal with this Antonio situation. Jushiro followed the same coordinates from which the messages were sent to him. His arrival was announced by the soft blue light peering from behind the Senkaimon gate. The black mask was first to be noticed, a sure way of identifying the man. And immediately the functions of the mask went to work. Always active as it gave the man some new insights. Stepping out from behind the Senkaimon gate atop of the skyscraper. Jushiro was immediately greeted by the Shinigami Antonio used to make his desperate plea.

“Taicho! He’s gone….he said he was being hunted by some beings called Quimchee? Oh wait Kwinshi? Maybe it was Quonkies? I think that’s what he said. They fought, well..it was more like sport for them. It happened down there ”.

The man said as he frantically scrambled towards the Captain while pointing to the streets below. Immediately Jushiro realised that the man was unsure as to what he heard. Maybe he was in shock to properly comprehend what Antonio had said. The mask remained blank for now as the silver haired man chose not to reveal his thoughts and feelings. His senses remained sharp and without much delay he moved towards the edge of the building. Stepping forward as he air walked across the skyline, carefully observing the different buildings around. He could see where the Garagunta was opened and there was something more. It was less known to the Captain but the data was recorded and already stored away. The energy signatures were different compared to the conventional Kumon, Garagunta or even a Senkaimon. The man said nothing, using only a slight lean of his head to dismiss the Shinigami. The failure to truly recall the name of those pursuing Antonio needed addressing.

Even worse was the fact that he couldn’t sense Antonio’s presence. Was he actually gone? There was some truth in what he said, even if his report missed one key detail. Before long though, the scene of Antonio’s demise became clear. And perhaps the ones responsible for purging an enemy of the Gotei 13 were the strangely cladded quintet down below. Izanagi did not react immediately to their presence, he took to observing, recording and analysing those present.

If they were truly responsible for disposing of Antonio, then that meant they’re capable warriors. The Arrancar which invaded the Soul Society possessed Soul King pieces/parts. It was all the same, since it gave them a boost to their power and abilities. This was evident during the numerous battles which took place inside the Seireitei. It begs the question. Did they dispose of Antonio so quickly despite having a Soul King part? A most intriguing thought. The Captain felt a mixture of relief and disappointment. The relief being that Antonio was no longer and so not a threat to the Shinigami. It was disappointing since it was a missed opportunity to ask questions and gain some insight. For him to reach out to the Shinigami stinks of desperation.

Without much delay, Izanagi began a slow descent towards the five individuals down below. Air walking as if traversing some invisible stairs. He expected Seimei to be in attendance also. His job was to provide cover or back up should things go awry.

“I expected to arrive and see the Espada still alive. Instead, he was eliminated swiftly. It’s amazing when you think about the trouble they gave us over ten years ago. Are the Shinigami that weak? Unacceptable”.

The man thought as he moved closer, unhurried and yet his posture and demeanour showed that he was guarded. Not one to leave himself wide open for assault. He was unsure on how this exchange would go, either way, he was ready to respond with words or through brute force.

Seimei Ukitake (浮竹 清明)

Light as if split the air atop the tall building, lining the beautiful sky of Naruki City. Seimei emerged out of that light, walking out of Senkaimon right next to his captain as he was already being greeted by one of their own. Seimei arrived just in time to hear a tad bit over a half of the tale the Shinigami told—and it certainly lit a burning, alerting feeling deep within his chest. And ridiculous thoughts, all at the same time.
”Quonkies? What the f— I mean, for people who just killed an awfully powerful Arrancar, they sound ridiculous.”

He thought to himself, but regardless of their name one thing was clear—they should be wary of them. They managed to kill Antonio, and it was described like it was mere sport to them. That indicated that they were powerful, dangerously powerful. He used his Reikaku immediately to gauge what they were facing, both their appearance and their spiritual signature. He’d never felt something quite like them, their spiritual energy was different to that of Shinigami or Hollows certainly.
”Where’d they come from? Why are they appearing now? And how come they hunted down Antonio? I mean, considering the lack of human presence and how things look, it all appears deliberate. We have to be careful. And…”

His mind paced in silence as his thoughts wandered from alertness to ridicule once more after he found out how they looked as he followed his captain, walking down the air as if using stairs.
”Oh lord Reiō, what the hell are they wearing? Why do they look like the corniest possible characters from the corniest possible human TV-show?!”

He thought as he followed his captain down to meet the Quincy, walking just two metres behind and or above him. He knew nothing about them, and whatever or whoever they were was something greatly concerning. They were powerful, and could clearly wield spiritual energy to a degree and heights great enough to fell an Espada-level Arrancar. That is quite a feat, considering this Arrancar in particular possessed a part of Soul King. But if they killed him, did they confiscate that part during the act? Or was it taken from him prior, had he lost it? Were the enemies of their enemy a potential ally, or a threat greater than the Arrancar? Seimei retained his usual relaxed composure and his emerald gaze was locked onto the five strangers below, but his mind and senses were more alert than ever. They could be walking into a trap. The Shinigami who met them undoubtedly should seek reinforcements if things go south. He followed their every breath and every movement, both physical and spiritual. Even if they were potential allies, they were potential threats as much. And powerful threats as such.

He didn’t know if Captain Izanagi held the same thoughts, but if an Arrancar desperately tried to reach for the Shinigami aid, these Quincy were likely extremely dangerous. That was an understatement. A decade ago, Gotei 13 barely withstood and survived the invasion of the Arrancar. But if one of those Arrancar was hunted by these beings like a dog, Seimei wasn’t so sure that the two of them had the necessary caliber to handle themselves. It all felt too risky, too suspicious.

However, they had to walk into this instance with an open mind. Seimei knew his task at hand—and that was to be on the lookout and have captain Jushiro Izanagi’s back if things came to that. And he followed his orders now that he’d gained his trust. His right hand was laying on the hilt of his Zanpakutō, relaxed but ready to retract the blade of his soul in less than a blink of an eye. He was ready to cast Kidō at a moments’ whim. His skill in Hohō was impeccable. He was prepared, alert. Ready.
