“Aww shit, not you too, Vice-Captain Aoji…don’t tell me you took part in this.”

With his hands behind his back Oto nods to confirm the Captain’s worries. Like Hachi, Oto has not a single regret for what he has done here. Shortly after this exchange Oto would share what he has learned and what he suspects is really going on in the Seireitei along with a possible suspect who has been missing from the main stage for quite some time. The gears begin to turn in the Captain’s mind as he puts together the information he has on hand with this new information he just gained from Oto. Things must have lined up and made sense for him because he changed his tune from confronting them to wanting to investigate this new situation. The old man chuckles as Nakazawa tells Hachi to put away his Shikai knowing better than anyone that the youngman will do no such thing especially after tensions have flared to such a large degree.

”Vice-Captain, I trust you, but if you’re pulling my chain it’s gonna cost ya. And if you had anything to do with this Shiba craziness, you’ll have to answer for it just like Hachi. Don’t try runnin’ to the World of the Living, cause I know every nook and cranny, and I’ll find ya.”

Oto lets out a hearty laugh.

”Hahaha! Oh, Captain Nakazawa, if I wanted to hide from you I’d just hide amongst my people.”

By “his people” Oto means the Rukongai denizens, the Captain may know the World of the Living but his knowledge on the Rukongai may pale in comparison to Otokogi. Besides, Oto is not one to run and hide if he doesn’t have to.

“And for the love of the Soul King, stop killin’ everybody.”

”Until their debt has been paid to the Rukongai, no.”

It is clear the old man was nothing more than a wall that Nakazawa was speaking to. This behavior isn’t born from thoughts of him being able to beat the Captain but more so the strength of his beliefs. This same Captain cut down a fellow Shinigami, feigning the excuse of being “jumped” by them, at his level of strength he could have subdued them without killing. Oto sighs, there seems to be hypocrites strewn throughout the Gotei Thirteen. As Hachi and Itaku begin their interaction Oto wanders over to a block of rubble and sits down on it, listening to the two youngmen when something strange happens right before his eyes.

"Yea, what is in the Muken-"

Mid sentence Itaku vanishes from his sight without using Shunpo or a Kido spell. He didn’t physically move either as Oto was not able to track him via Reikaku and this sudden vanishing act made the hair on the back of his neck stand up on the back of his neck. A similar thing happened to Kasuka although his vanishing went unnoticed due to the roar of the cannons being fired at them. The old man does not physically react, aside from the hairs on the back of his neck rising, he remains seated and unmoved. He has zero info to go off of on how Itaku vanished like that and sensed nothing to even formulate a theory on it. The best he can do for now is stay on guard and being a guard is exactly what he has in mind.

”The head of the Shiba clan is innocent, there is no blood on her hands. It may be some time before we can consider her an ally of the Rukongai, however, she despises the other big noble clans as much as we do. She was on the verge of being betrayed by her clan it seems. That aside, I need you to head to the Muken and provide backup for Captain Nakazawa. I won’t accept any back talk on this matter.”

The old man usually pays no mind to Hachi’s back sass, it's just part of who the violent gale is. But for him to directly tell Hachi not to start with it means that he is VERY serious about what is going on.

”Hashimoto is trying to create Vizards and the key to their creation, or rather the mind behind their creation, is imprisoned in the Muken. The Mother of the Vizards. I’d go myself but you are leagues faster than me and someone needs to guard the Kakaku Taihō here. Now go, this is another situation where mercy is not an option, what Hashimoro is doing is very dangerous and he needs to be killed before he succeeds.”

After giving his order he closes his eyes and attunes his Reikaku to start sending out the rest of the battles going on in the Seireitei. Now that he doesn’t have to directly focus on what is going on in front of him he can take time to feel out everything else. Just as he assumes there is still fighting going on despite the announcement that this civil war was over. Wars never end at the drop of a dime, small skirmishes and fights are sure to continue in the following weeks or even months. This war veteran can handle that much, that is easy, whatever Hashimoto is planning though is what will be the rough bit to deal with. If he succeeds another war on the scale of the Unhallowed Wars could break out and that won’t be good for anyone. While sensing out what was going on in the Seireitei a Hell Butterfly flutters on over to him, landing on his shoulder and delivering a message to him.

"Sensei Aijō, you know I wouldn't reach out to you unless it was absolutely necessary. We need your help, your students need you. I don't which side you are on but I know that you love your students and helping us grow. If you can, please go to the Northwest to help because we are outmatched against the Kenpachi!

Oto groaned and looked over his shoulder at the cannon he was guarding. Out of respect to Chōko Shiba he did not want to destroy any more of her property, however he could not so easily ignore this message being sent out to him either. He sighs and rises to his feet, aiming his right hand at the cannon.

"Hadō #33. Sōkatsui" (蒼火墜, Blue Fire, Crash Down; Viz "Pale Fire Crash")

Pale blue energy erupts from his palm and briefly encapsulates the mid section of the cannon before exploding, destroying the cannon and rendering it useless. He makes a mental note to apologize to Choko about the cannon after this is all done. The old man sets his sights to the Northwest and vanishes from sight, hoping to arrive in time to stop the fighting.

The somewhat awkward banter continues between The Old Man and Captain Nakazawa. The Captain’s veiled threats and somewhat joking demeanor- a welcome side-effect of his rather eccentric personality–had since become an annoyance. His “too cool” demeanor had begun to make him appear weak and uninteresting, projecting his false confidence in a situation of pure vulnerability. He was a pretender in its purest form–yet even with all this, Hachi’s respect for the man hadn’t wholly dwindled. With the Captain gone, the three now stand around attempting to plan their next move, casting aside the events of a few moments ago, hoping to progress forward toward the eventual end of this Seireitei-wide conflict; at least until-
"Yea, what is in the Muken-"

The lucrative Itaku speaks before his voice fades away. It doesn’t fade like someone getting further, however, but more like someone pulled into a dark hole where sound is incapable of escaping. His voice, Reiatsu, his physical frame, and his very breath, all cease to exist where they stand before the final words of his sentence are even spewed outward. Hachi simply covets a look of immediate confusion, incapable of truly digesting what had occurred. A masterful practitioner of the Hoho arts allowed the man to become nearly incorporeal at times, and even move fast enough to where his Shunpo and other means of transportation have even been confused for displacement. Even still, he hadn’t seen anything like what may have happened, or been performed by Itaku. It isn’t until this moment that the long brown locks worn as a crown for the Third Seated Officer act as a mask to cover the expression of deep thought that crept over his lips and eyes. When did four become two? He hadn’t taken notice of the young boy’s absence either, but he too must’ve vanished without a trace. With both he and his compatriot gone, however, their absence becomes more noticeable and adds another droplet into the sea of questions that had yet to crash ashore with an answer.

Hachi pulls his free hand up to his face a bit, his palm covering the bulk of his visage as Otokogi peaks through the spaces beneath his fingers. No blood on her hands? He thinks ominously, looking at the blood on his. Even if he did believe that to be true, it would only apply to this one situation, but what of the years of oppression? No matter; his thought is immediately interrupted by a wave of nonchalance, remembering the scars, the tears, the forfeited souls disposed of like wayward garbage. In the eyes of the nobles, no matter what “side” they were on, that’s all they were; trash. Even with the updated knowledge, regret is not present. Distant parts of the Seireitei continue to erupt in warfare, the cascading lights of the clashing powers reflecting from the surface of the massive weapon he now carried, painting a kaleidoscope of color throughout the dust and blood-filled courtyard. The Old Man’s tone becomes not so gentle; not so much in an insulting way, but in a way that appears to require a more serious approach from the otherwise lackadaisical Hachi. The Vice-Captain allowed the young shinigami to do what he liked for the most part, never rendering firm consequence or judgment, and it appeared the time to pay all of that lenience forward, was now.

Vizards? Yuck. The only thought that crosses his mind is one of slight discomfort. The idea of a hybrid shinigami was blasphemous enough, but how it looked, how it had to feel? He couldn’t imagine. He draws this information back to the day’s beginning, remembering the reports for himself and the Vice-Captain, detailing hybrid energy signatures in varying areas of the vast Rukongai. Has the diabolical Hashimoto already been successful? Oto didn’t even need to say it, mercy was hardly ever an option in the face of a true foe, and it would not be present now. As The Gentle Breeze forcefully announces his final order in the wake of his conflict, he finds a stoic and obedient Hachi standing before him shadowless. Perhaps he might wonder why he hadn’t gotten the normal back-and-forth from the Third Seated Officer that was often outspoken. The fabric of his Shihashukou would silently begin to tear, as his skin rippled and peeled away while the image of his former self was disrupted by a forgiving gust. Again, the man has become the wind itself, fading from existence in a slower manner than the two Shinigami that had also vanished from Hachi’s presence. In a single, infinitesimal moment the Wind-Walker had rode the breeze’s northeast trajectory, easily superseding, and then matching the pace of the Captain he had almost come to blows with just moments ago. When Captain Nakazawa appeared at the mouth of the Muken, deep in the heart of the Seireitei’s Central district, he would find that an unlikely companion had manifested at his side. The Shikai weapon he was told to put away, would now come to the aid of the same voice that opted for its sealing. In the distance, the explosion of the destroyed Shiba Cannon erupts loudly along with many other sounds of destruction, as a pale blue light guides the top half of the broken cannon down to the ground beneath. Hachi had no idea would he was getting himself into, but was never one to run from a fight, or a direct order from The Old Man, for that matter.

Ten months. That’s how much time passed in the seireitei. To some, that wouldn’t be a long time. But for the soul reapers of the 13 court guard squads it felt like centuries passed.

So many things happened, some that are tragic to even utter a word about. Captains clashed and faught. Lots of people died. Among those being captains and vice captains. Those who were supposed to be the muscle of their ranks. They all died. Some easily. Some with a good fight. But in the end they were gone.

Over time, thing had wrapped up and gotten better. The Gotei 13 slowly took back control, vacant captain seats were filled. But the hurt was still there even though some wanted to pretend they weren’t.

Sayuri Daichi was one of those hurt. She was one to love fighting, being in the face of battle once was one of her favorite things in the world. But even a brute like herself could be shaken up. She had joined the tenth division to change the outlook of what people thought of her, but walked right into the office of a dead man.

Soon, her life turned from something as mundane as worrying about how she was viewed to fighting to save herself and those around her. Even though she tried hard, one of her dear friends was attacked and almost killed. And even though Itaku was alive, she felt like the once good friendship they had was gone.

And now he was a Captain. Now he is gone from Tenth. And she went back to square one.

She focused on building back up the tenth Savion as best as she could, even though some of her fellow squad mates were scared of her. It came with some respect which she wasn’t at all mad about.

She sighed, looking up at the sky that was now bright from it being day time.

She guessed this was a new beginning. For herself and her Divison.

From Southeast Seireitei

Racing towards her barracks, Kuwashii makes use of every shortcut imaginable. Leaping off of rooftops, propelling herself forward with Shunpo, if she had her Zanpakuto with her and not at the barracks she most likely would have used Shikai to propel herself even faster. She looks off to the side towards the source of Densagi’s raging Reiatsu, her brow furrows with frustration, wishing she was faster so she could rush over to Otokogi’s aid. Any Shinigami out and about would be awestruck by what they were sensing, looking towards the Northwest with shock and terror in their eyes. There are many who survived the Civil War, it was the hardest time of their lives and with the possibility of it reigniting now, ten months later, they only have their anxiety and trauma building up in response. Thankfully Kuwashii had none of these symptoms as she experienced none of its horrors due to being in Naruki City at the time of the war.

Having not experienced it is the only reason she is the one moving, the only one wanting to complete her task so she can rush into the fray to fight. In the eyes of the titans who may clash she is nothing more than fodder, at best, a gnat at least. Due to her hastened pace she finally arrives at the gates of Tenth Division, sliding along the ground before vaulting over the gates in a single bound. To her luck she landed beside Sayuri who seemed to be staring at the sky, daydreaming. She holds up an envelope containing a report from Naruki, this report possesses the details concerning the Garganta fissures appearing in Naruki, however Kuwashii does not disclose this to her superior right away.

”Sayuri! We have to go help Aijo-san now! I have to go grab my Zanpakuto then I’ll be ready to move out!”

Kuwashii speaks as if Sayuri would agree with her and be so willing to jump into the fray without thinking. Kuwashii was possibly one of the few people in the Tenth Division who did not fear Sayuri but respected and admired her. Being a rough fighter in her own right she aspired to be more like Sayuri than anything else. Because of this respect and admiration she assumes that Sayuri would be willing to join her in any sort of conflict that arose, but as she awaits her superiors response all she can do is hope Sayrui’s response is a call to action.

As her thoughts kept running in circles away from the war, to her only friend she’s had in this god forsaken place she instantly was brought out of her thoughts by a rush of spiritual pressure smacking her out of her thoughts.

“What the-?!”

She instantly stood up, her hands instantly going to the small handle of her Zanpakuto. Her eyes narrowed as she looked around the room. Yes, she was in Naruki City during the war. So she sadly wasn’t around to witness the ins and out of the war. But anyone with any half of a brain would know that a rush of this amount of Spiritual Pressure didn’t mean anything good.

So why? Why weren’t any of of her squad mates running towards her to get to work on whatever the fuck was going on?

To some, this would be one of those rare moments where Sayuri would look calm. Almost pretty. It was of a rarity because Sayuri was either drunk somewhere screaming to smash someone’s face in. Or she was sober threatening to bash someone’s face in. There was no in between.

But that didn’t ever deter people. They always would slowly make their way to the beast of a woman, knowing within minutes that the pretty and silent Sayuri in front of them could instantly turn against them. But this was different. Nobody was even turning towards her, her being the highest ranked member in their squad.

Unknown to her fellow squad mates, it wasn't something Sayuri was happy about. It was just a habit she picked up from being in the Rukon District to then moving from there to the twelfth.

It was something she was slowly working on. Which is why she so happened to be annoyed at this moment.

So when she felt the spiritual pressure of her squadmate Kurashii literally rushed towards her, she raised an eye brow and turned towards the direction her squad mate was coming from.

The girl was clearly panicked. So of course she had some sense to head towards her with some urgency.

”Sayuri! We have to go help Aijo-san now! I have to go grab my Zanpakuto then I’ll be ready to move out!”

This surprised Sayuri even more. Nobody other than Itaku would call out to her like this. So she allowed herself not to lash out like she normally would but instead spirited after the girl, ready to move out. As she ran, she turned around to the other squad members behind her.

“Take a look you idiots, no matter how much you fear me. In a time such as this get up off your asses and come to me! If not, you are better off with me just killing you here and now!”

Maybe that was a little harsh. She will assess what she said later. She would then turn towards Kuwashii, her eyes narrowed again.

“And why in god's name is a member of the tenth division running around without their Zanpakuto?! You should have only come back to deliver me news, what if this little detour is the very thing that puts us behind?!”

Which was indeed a fact. Yes, they could pinpoint where the Spiritual pressure was coming from, but a soul reaper without their sword, even to a brute such as Sayuri, was nothing.

Kuwashii gasps as she is reprimanded by Sayuri, she stammers and stutters as she tries to formulate a sentence to defend her actions. While she knew the right things to say she was afraid of how Sayuri would respond, not verbally but physically. She isn’t too afraid of being hit by her superior but with the current state of things she didn’t want to risk injury or being knocked unconscious by her.

”Ah, but, uhh no one knew Aijo-san and Shiba-san were going to fight, if we did no one told me…”

Her arms were primed to raise up to defend herself in case Sayuri lashed out at her. At the same time she extends the manila envelope towards her containing her report on the current state of Naruki City. While the situation at hand was important so too was this report, whether she read it now or later didn’t matter so long as it was placed in her hands. Should Sayuri take it Kuwashii would leap away from her to get out of striking range. Turning her body to face the direction of her barracks she looks back towards Sayuri.

”It won't be long I’ll be right back!”

Understanding the sense of urgency she uses Shunpo to clear as much distance as her current level allows her to. Still taking the urgency into consideration she crashes through her door, not even stopping to open it. Using the door as some sort of surfboard she slid on it along the ground to the other end of her room where her Zanpakuto awaited. She grabs it and makes use of Shunpo once more she is out of the room and on her way back to Sayuri. Upon returning to her superior she stops and places her hands on her knees, tired from pushing the limits of her Shunpo which is usually only used in short bursts at a time. She takes a deep breath and then exhales, standing up straight.

”forgive me Daichi-san, I wasn’t aware that we were still under a War Time effect to constantly carry our Zanpakuto. My time in the Human world has made a disconnect in the information I possess here.”

She speaks respectfully and bows, something she possibly only does with Sayuri as normally she is hot headed and brash, uncaring of how she speaks so long as she is heard. A bit of this comes out as she follows up with a final question.

”So what’s the plan? How are we going to stop that ape’d out Shiba?”

From her perspective any time she had caught a glimpse of Densagi he resembled an ape to her, hence the nickname.

After Sayuri allowed herself to calmly reprimand the young officer, she instantly stopped running, waiting for her to answer. She could see just by looking at the girl that she was scared of what her answer would prompt Sayuri to do, and it annoyed her.

'Ah, but, uhh, no one knew Aijo-san and Shiba-san were going to fight, if we did, no one told me...'

This answer only annoyed Sayuri even more. Of course, nobody would think the two men would fight. That wasn’t why she was bringing up the importance of carrying your Zanpakuto pretty much at all times. She was about to yell at her when she saw the report in the girl's hands yet again and decided against yelling. Instead, she snatched the report from the girl's hands and tore it open.

'It won't be long, I’ll be right back!'

And the girl was gone before Sayuri could say anything else, finally getting some urgency to move and get her Zanpakuto, even if it was for the wrong damn thing.

Did the girl seriously think she was the only one who felt the fight going on in the distance? Did she really think no other person in the whole Gotei 13 would notice and head in the direction of the rising spiritual pressure?

Just the thought of this made Sayuri want to laugh.

'Dumb girl...' grumbled Sayuri.

Thanks to the happenings of the Civil War, everyone in the whole damn place was on edge. Ever since the war, they all had to come to realize that nowhere in the Seireitei is safe, and everyone needed to be on high alert.

Which is why Sayuri didn’t give a damn about the fight anymore, her green eyes looking down at the report in her hands.
‘I am writing to report a significant incident that has occurred in Naruki City. Garganta fissures have been appearing in various locations throughout the city, and it is imperative that a team be dispatched to investigate and contain the situation.’

This was…interesting to say the least. The world of the living has had its share of weird happenings, but this? This was sudden, and it made a weird sensation fill Sayuri’s stomach. She had a bad feeling about this.

She felt Kuwashii coming towards her again, which was the only thing making her look up to see the girl rushing towards her.

'Forgive me, Daichi-san, I wasn’t aware that we were still under a War Time effect to constantly carry our Zanpakuto. My time in the Human world has made a disconnect in the information I possess here.'

Sayuri rolled her eyes before slapping the girl with the report in her hand so hard that it made the girl's head lower towards the floor.

'As if you were the only one in the World of the Living at the time of the war, I was as well, you idiot. Doesn’t mean you can run around here with that dumb ass excuse!'

Her shouts bounced off the walls, and her breathing was loud like an animal before she spoke again.

'Are you really as dumb as you look? You come all the way here worried about some fight when half the damn Gotei probably felt the same spiritual pressure you did and are probably already there handling the situation as we speak? Meanwhile, you come here with a report about Naruki City, our place of importance, and dismiss it?!'

Sighing, Sayuri ran her hands through her hair, trying to calm herself down and resist the urge to throw the girl out of her face. She quickly sent out a hell butterfly to the 13th Division, informing them of the events in Naruki City and urging them to be alert and monitor Karakira Town to and sent another to the 12th Division with the same message.

“Instead of heading into a petty fight, go to the 12th Division and inform them to be on alert and monitor the situation in Naruki City. I already contacted the 13th Division regarding Karakira. Now that you have something reasonable to do, get out of my face,” she said curtly, before turning away from the girl.

Sayuri then turned to some officers nearby, making them step back as if she was going to attack them.

“You two, come with me. We are heading to Naruki City to address the situation with the Garganta Fissures. It’s important that we leave immediately to secure and fix this situation. No questions, let’s go.”

She turned away, confident that they would follow her orders. They made their way to the Senkaimon and headed towards Naruki City without any further discussion.

Upon returning with her Zanpakuto Kuwashii was shocked to find Sayuri had nothing but harsh words for her. She couldn’t get a single word in to defend herself or her actions and she had no right to. Kuwashii’s station in the World of the Living has made her forget the pecking order. Out there she is the top dog, no one can eclipse her shine or tell her otherwise, but here in Soul Society, in the Gotei Thirteen she is a bottom feeder, an unseated Shinigami with no authority over anyone but herself. Sayuri is a firm reminder of this reality as she demonstrates her authority over Kuwashii, not sparing any time for her silly games. A vein bulges on Kuwashii’s forehead as she begins to become annoyed by Sayuri not letting her speak, adding to the fact she was shouting so utterly loud. She clenched her fists and looked down towards the ground as her superior continued on, she was defeated as she heard slight snickering from other members of the division laughing at her. Kuwashii, the shining star of Naruki City whose light can’t be dimmed by anyone or anything, was embarrassed. The vein on her head vanishes and she unclenches her fist slowly as she finally has time to speak up.

”But I… We… Understood Daichi-san.”

She bows and turns on her heel to walk away, keeping her head down so her bangs can hide her eyes from the view of others. She walks past a group of her peers, one of them chastising her.

”Better luck next time, runt. Hahaha!”

As she strides past him his Shihakushou suddenly bursts into white flames and no matter how much he patted himself down or rolled on the ground the flames would not go out. The flames only vanished once his entire Shihakusou had burned away leaving him completely naked and the new source of laughter for the Division. She leaps off the ground and begins leaping from building to building as she travels to Twelfth Division. During her travels she starts panting and sweating intensely, eventually stopping on a rooftop to catch her breath. At first she thought she was winded from using Shunpo, but no, the closer she got to the North West section of the Seireitei the air became denser, it was making breathing and movement harder for her. The clashing Reiatsu in the area was putting immense strain on her body, a strain she was not used to nor ever felt. She tried igniting her own Reiatsu but all she could muster up were small wisps of flames that went out shortly after they were summoned. It is now she realizes the weight of Sayuri’s words, rushing into that conflict would achieve nothing because they literally could do nothing.

”Damn it…”

Those were the only words she could muster with her lack of oxygen. She turns and takes a detour towards Twelfth Division to avoid the strong Reiatsu signatures as best she can. This was a firm reminder to her that she is not as powerful as she believes herself to be, however, it gives her a glimpse into how strong she will become. She smirks weakly as she gains a bit more strength to leap from rooftop to rooftop once again.

”Everyone will see my radiance eventually. Then I’ll be the one suffocating people with MY power hehe. I am Icarus…”

She psyches herself up, flexing her biceps as she puts on a big grin, her confidence returning.

”And on wings of fire I’ll never burn!!!!”

Those going about their own respective duties have perhaps felt the rumbling of reiatsu in the air. A single question, or rather a single statement uniting the thoughts of many.

'Not again'

They were still healing from the war that divided the Gotei 13, still coming to terms with the loss of powerful souls, of Captains and Vice Captains, yet once again they felt a surge and potential of clash between powerful souls once again. As things had died out, they thought perhaps their fears were unfounded, maybe it was but a training session that had gotten a bit out of hand. That is, until they feel a heavy reiatsu coming from Northwestern sector, a massive imposing tree rising and standing strong.

As if things couldn't get worst, the massive red "sun" descending from the sky and the reiatsu that came with it caused hearts to stop, pulses to race. While there were few who had ever seen Kagi's bankai those who had seen Densagi's were far fewer, and of the two souls...only one bankai was completely forbidden to be used anywhere but Hueco Mundo.

"RUN AWAY!!!"

A frightened soul screams at the top of their lungs, sparking a stampede as shinigami trample over one another in fear of their lives. Massive red bolts land against them, their spiritual power instantly sapped from them, causing them to collapse to the ground, their fates unknown. Those who had seen these panicked immediately as they scrambled over one another, seeking any manner of shelter they could. A pointless effort. Each soul unfortunately, had to bear the burden of becoming potential collateral damage. Nourishment for both Densagi and his Bankai.

It was something the man himself would never want, it is why while he loved his zanpakuto, he hated his bankai. It was a power not fit for protecting anything or anyone, all it was good for...was destroying and taking. The massive sphere that hovered over the tree seemed bigger than when it had descended but...that couldn't be the case...could it?
