Captain Harai Shibuya.

Oh, how it suits her. Fits her ambition, her pedigree, her very being.

It's another trophy, one with responsibilities, but a display piece nonetheless. Something to bolster her nonexistent resume, filled by achievement after achievement, showing how truly accomplished and amazing she is. So far above the rest.

Well, it would be better if said title had more groundwork done prior to her inheritance of it. War and continuous strife make not for comfortability, nor for worthwhile scientific advancements.

Needless to say the last few years, give or take two hundred odd, left many of the facilities within Twelfth Division less than well-manned, often abandoned all together simply due to the sheer lack of manpower available to allocate to them. The lack thereof remains, but Shibuya is nothing if not resourceful if it means adding yet more accolades to her ever-growing ego-fueled portfolio.

One of said facilities is the recently revitalized Zanpakuto Development Facility, a series of labs forgotten years prior once dedicated to the tampering of Zanpakuto, their spirits, and abilities. Its abandoned nature could bring questions of why, the thought process of being able to alter one's Zanpakuto seeming invaluable to the bare eye– The fact of the matter is, however, that in the grand scheme of utility it falls laughably short of serving any purpose beyond the here-and-now. The Z.D.F. stands as a near useless priority when up against the still functioning labs; S.W.M.D., C.R.S., and R.S.A.R.F. And to some lesser extent, the Warehouse Sector.

All a lab truly needs to function is a few no-life losers– Otaku for their area of specialty, if you will-, and at the very least it will become functional again. Not to what it may or may not have been prior to the ever rocky roads present, but baby-steps and all that.

For these smaller, less well-working labs, there exist no titles nor leaders. Alas, this method of running her squad piles more and more paperwork onto her by the day, but it's a sacrifice she is willing to make if only to use her new position to begin mending bridges where they needed to be. At the very least a majority, aside from the Z.D.F, focus on far simpler things. Toys, Clothing, Sweets, Medicine, and the Manufacturing thereof– Small scale it is currently.

With new technology and ideas comes more products stocking shelves, and with more products comes brand competition, leading yet further down to cheaper, more accessible product varieties for those less fortunate.

It sounds so altruistic coming from a woman like Shibuya, to want for the betterment of the weak and poor, for their lives to improve just that little bit with easier access to medicines and luxuries once only accessible by Shinigami and the upper echelon of Seireitei. Her motivations are far from good, however. With cheaper products, and many more of them at that, she can force goodwill into existence from the Rukongai, potential to stabilize the most unruly and least accounted for population within Soul Society.

An added point to her plans is to force other manufacturers not affiliated with Squad 12 to lower their prices through continual pressure and corner cutting in certain places, then to dissolve any branding 12th currently has, and instead bringing the Harai's established Kotei no Hitsugi name recognition in to cater to the wealthy once the economy has evened out enough to allow the sort of wealth she'd like to target.

Garnering appreciation from Rukongai citizens, and cannibalizing the rich. In her thought process it's all win-win, as long as she can keep the gears moving where she needs them to.

Which brings Shibuya to her current pursuit, one of many undefined steps to her ever changing plans: Seeking out Ōhei Itaku.

Clicking into place, the elevator door slides aside for her to step off, surface light leaking in from newly installed windows in S.R.D.I's reception area. It's quaint, how much friendlier a building could appear when it isn't plagued by the dim buzzing of lightbulbs and the unwashed stink of 12th Division hermits.

She ignores her subordinates' greetings as she makes her way outside, stopping only once she's exited the walls surrounding her division's territory.

Each of her remaining Azamushi show themselves from under her shihakusho, crawling along her neck and face, chittering to themselves, amongst themselves. From the seven that had remained after the Shiba Densagi incident, only three remain now; One, Six, and Nine. The others lost and killed in a variety of ways, Eights death notably being the only accidental amongst them.

Call it paranoia, but she can't shake the thought of needing them– Or that she will be needing them. A habit she's picked up since she joined the Gotei 13, for what could be considered obvious reasons. Every moderately 'good' occurrence in her life since then has been followed by… problems.

That being said, rather than sending them off to distant locations, she opts to keep them close, covering her blindspots.

She sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose, headache blooming as her bugs' sight begins to filter into her head. Sacrifices, she reminds herself, for peace of mind and stability.

With that, she continues on her trek toward Fourth Division, pace leisurely, slow. For reasons.

Reasons of dreading whatever will come with willingly speaking to Itaku of her own volition. While it may still be for the same reasons as their prior engagements, she truly, completely, and utterly hates the thought of wanting to speak to him.

From Southwest Seireitei: 10th Division

08eb5b22872029c8cd60796238ee38f3.png

Taro arrives at Third Division most unceremoniously, hopping off the inky fish and returning it to his Zanpakuto. The Shinigami there attempted to greet the man and ask what he was there for but their words went unnoticed like a passing breeze as he made his way to the building where Former and deceased Captain Aijō took up residence. It had become a place of memorial, flowers and incense burned outside of it paying tribute, honor, and respect to a man who was a soldier, teacher, mentor and friend to many. The items of affection are trampled upon by Taro who pays them no mind as he opens the door to the room, everything within it has remained untouched, same as the day Otokogi left it. The Shinigami begin yelling at Taro, some even drawing their blades ready to attack the Captain for his disrespectful intrusion. With but a quick flash of his Reiatsu the Shinigami are subdued, feeling not only his killing intent but forced to hallucinate a giant specter with a scythe slung around their necks. Wanting to escape a potential death sentence they scattered, leaving Taro to rummage around on his own. He poured over various documents and scrolls, looking for anything pertaining to the Rukongai, a specific district to be exact. He knew the Old Cog was hiding something, he was too chummy and friendly with the Rukongai to not know any of their secrets. While the old man may have not written down any of his secrets Taro, and by extension the Date, would be able to piece them together by finding gaps in his paperwork and records.

Taro finds a document pertaining to the Seventy-Ninth District of the Southern Rukongai known as Tenki (天気, heaven). That place has been a wasteland for centuries but it wasn’t always that way, it was once home to a district of reasonable size, while being on the outskirts of “civilization” it had its fair share of ruffians but nothing anyone wouldn’t expect. But what is shocking is how, over the decades, it started to mysteriously die off. Bit by bit it seemed like the people there were vanishing, but the scales of balance never tipped so far as Shinigami were concerned people were just leaving the district for another. Eventually the place became nothing more than abandoned ruins before turning into a wasteland. No reports of a mass conflict came out or were noticed, it just seemed like everyone simply left this district for some reason. The Date are shadows, always watching, always learning, so it is no surprise they too had eyes on the mysterious circumstances pertaining to this district. And it was only just recently there was movement reported from that place, an individual seen leaving the Seventy-Ninth Southern District. Who he is is still unknown, but the Date have their eyes fixed on him. The document Taro found details that there is nothing amiss in this mysterious district, that it is still simply abandoned, and there are no further notes.

Taro knows what to search for now, and every document he finds regarding Tenki is the same, the wording may be different each time but it keeps repeating that there is nothing of note there, no activity, no reason to worry about it. Taro drops the last report on the floor and exits the room, leaving it a complete mess without care or respect for the former owner. Using his Shunpo he moves across the barracks to the Captain’s office, a small shrine was made outside of it and was luckily out of Taro’s path of travel. He enters the office and begins going through the official documents of the Third Division. He ignores anything pertaining to the Academy which it oversees and strictly focuses on the Rukongai patrols. He ignores anything written by Otokogi and instead looks at reports made by Shinigami of the Third Division who patrolled Tenki or near it. The reports are odd, Shinigami talking about the feeling of being watched, getting lost and suddenly exiting Tenki completely. Superstition is not something that is strong in the realm of Spirits for them everything has a logical explanation. The buzzing of another Jigoku Kuishinbō arrives, landing on Taro’s shoulder, delivering another message.

Anger

A vein bulges on his head as he kicks the Captain’s desk so hard he sends it through the sliding doors, through the railing and into a small courtyard. Paper scatters about, some fluttering down to the courtyard as a surge of violent Reiatsu wafts over this section of the Division.

”They took the old fool at his word and ignored any and all reasons to investigate. We have filthy rats living right under our noses. Let the rest of the Inner Hand know that the Third Finger shall be taking care of this, personally. Deploy Vassals to the Seventy-Ninth Southern District, Tenki, And make preparations to use Date Bakudo #15. Tengoku no mōsō.” (天国の妄想; Heavenly Delusion)

Date Bakudo #15. Tengoku no mōsō, is a Date clan Kido Spell that creates a barrier, of various sizes, that obscures what is happening inside of the Barrier. This means sight, smell, sound, and Reiatsu cannot be felt from outside of the barrier. This was the same barrier put around the Shiba manor when Taro and the Date Vassals massacred the remaining Shiba clan members. If he is relaying orders to his Vassals to use that spell again it only means he plans on enacting another mass purge. He draws his blade and summons Kurogane, this time without speaking the release phrase. He hops upon the Ink Fish and it speeds off south bound, to the Seventy-Ninth District of the Rukongai, ironically named Tenki.

The air shifted as Yurei's form took form from a blurred scribble to a solid mass. His stance in the air was above the Third Division, forming as Captain Date was moving around the compound. Yurei had no reason to follow or pry into the Captain's research, he only had to make sure he was safe doing so, not that he needed it. This was Yurei's role—his place as a vassal for Captain Date. Not just Taro, the entire Date clan was the Noble family that Yurei's family had served for an unknown, unimportant amount of time. The birth name of Yurei was an insignificant one, the family had never borne a shinigami worthy of the academy or had any notable leaders among them, Often they were gardeners or women of the house. Yurei had once thrown away his normal life as a shinigami when he decided the seireitei was stagnant and weak.

He took his name and found his purpose. It didn't matter who he could have been or used to be, all that mattered now was that the one known as Yurei, saw Taro Date's goals met.

If Captain Date had known about this it was a secret to even Yurei, Captain Date had tolerated Yurei so far, and they don't exactly have heart-to-heart conversations. There was something Captain Date saw in Yurei and that very same thing looked back into Captain Date, and saw itself.

Yurei watched Taro Date from above, he searched a few rooms, and then without warning or sound, his Zanpakuto was released once more, the giant ink fish, Kurogane, Taking Captain Date into the skies where he rushed by Yurei who stood on platforms under his feet, closed his eyes nodded and was now using Shunpo in the same direction as Captain Date.

No words were often needed between the two, Yurei saw the exposed vein on Taro's forehead, Something very unfortunate was about to befall those who had summoned Captain Date's wrath. Yurei kept his hand on his Zanpakuto, ready to fell what may stand between Date and his new anger.

Vice captain Kazuki.png

With graceful speed, Kazuki apparates in the streets of the Northwest district. He was close to the thirteenth division as he was just about to enter their barracks. The shinigami smiling as they spotted a familiar face at their gates.

"Ah Lieutenant Kazuki, it's good to see you sir. What can we help you with, what has brought you to our barracks?"

Kazuki softly smiled back, about to answer, when... he felt it. Immense spiritual pressure emitting from what he believed to the barracks of the 3rd division. Even without his Reikaku he was able to easily tell who it was, the vile scent still stuck in his nostrils from their encounter in the 10th barracks, captain Date. Both the shinigami in front of him carried concerned expressions, hands on tsubas as they readied for a threat they didn't understand. While Kazuki closed his eyes, remaining calm as he focused on the reiatsu of the captain. Then after a while it started to fade away rapidly in a certain direction. Without another word to the guards, Kazuki vanished with his shunpo, leaving nothing but a ring of dust behind.

Soon arriving at the gate of the 3rd division busted open. Shinigami scattered about as they tried to restore a shrine and clean the mess. The barracks looking as if a storm has passed through, shinigami still trembling. They looked at Kazuki and scrambled away in fear, stopping as a few of them spotted the 10th division insignia. Yet he didn’t pay them any mind, observing and investigating the chaos before him. Stopping at the shrine to the 3rd captain, seeing it desecrated like this... it made Kazuki furious. He never met the captain personally, but he remembered when he visited to give a speech, when he was still in the academy. Even after he became a shinigami, he read reports and documentation of captain Otokogi's career and exploits. To Kazuki, he was just one example of a Great Shinigami, a Great captain. Fulfilling the role of a protector that Shinigami are meant to be, even when it came to difficult decisions. Yet he was now dead at the hands of a Shiba and his memorial, his memory tarnished.

Kazuki clenched his fist tightly as his nails dug in, blood starting to trickle from his palm. Slowly his reiatsu clawed out as it engulfed the barracks, making all feel it's weight. Yet they didn't feel fear, they felt rage bubbling from within. Growling wolves would manifest by their sides as their trembling ceased and they all gathered in the courtyard. Their eyes glued to the shinigami who was giving them this sense of courage, rage and unity. Gone was the sniveling division who lost their captain and in their place, a pack of wolves who wanted justice. Then his voice came out with a angry hiss as he spoke with purpose.

"This will not stand... this desecration, this disrespect for a fallen captain, a fallen mentor to all of us. Stop sniveling! Your captain is dead and now the 3rd division is in your hands, his legacy and how it is shaped is in your hands! Raise your heads, grit your teeth, for you are shinigami of the 3rd division! Protectors of the Rukongai, providers of peace, and mentors to current and future Shinigami. Many of you, including myself were brought forth under Captain Otokogi's administration. So do not tarnish his memory by cowering, but protect his memory and what means to be a true shinigami, even it means sacrificing your life. Otherwise others will walk over you as one did today and we protectors will fade away into nothing. For Squad 3rd, for the seireitei, for the rukongai and for Captain OTOKOGI!"

"FOR CAPTAIN OTOKOGI!!!"

Their voices roared out as they shouted in unison. Their spirits rekindled as pure rage and determination burned at their souls. The visage of the reaper looming over the barracks was now being torn to shreds by a pack of wolves. A indirect challenge to captain Date if he ever comes back, not that he would care or notice. Besides Kazuki wasn't going against the seireitei, he was for it and for Date to go against him would only turn more and more divisions against him and he can't break or kill everyone even if he will damn well try. Staying for a while, he helped the 3rd division clean everything up, eventually ending up in the office of the former captain. Slowly he read over the sheets of paper scattered about and his eyes went through the same reports that Date did. Seventy-Ninth District of the Southern Rukongai, Tenki (天気, heaven)... he hasn't heard of it. What was Captain Date planning, and what was Captain Otokogi's secret, what was he hiding? Either way, his trail after Date will end here, even if he can accurately still smell the trail left by the captain. Talking to one of the shinigami, he within the next few hours schedule a division training meeting between the 3rd and 10th. Without a Captain or Lieutenant, they would most likely suffer more under the might of those similar to Captain Date. Until he come up with something better, this one of the ways he think up of helping them. Now as for that report... let's add decicration of memorial, unsanctioned entry of deceased captain's quarters, unsanctioned entry of deceased captain's office, unsanctioned search through documents and reports of another division without proper clearance, and destruction of property. With a tisk and a final look at the reinvigorated shinigami, he vanished to head back to the 10th division. Time to send that report and paperwork in and to plan. As despite the growing issue that was this captain Date, the Arrancars and the quiet of Hueco Mundo was of greater concern.

Once again the Northwest Seireitei is graced, or cursed, by a looming shadow cast down from a black inky fish floating overhead. Those of Third Division cast a side eyed glare towards it as they are well acquainted with whom that shadow belongs to. Soon enough so shall Thirteenth. Things are going along as normal in Thirteenth, training drills are being run, reports from the Human World are being filed and those on leave are enjoying some leisurely time around the Barracks. Time off for a Shinigami is a sacred thing, something to be enjoyed to its fullest extent because no one knows when they will have the chance to be so laxed again. Taro Date is here to remind them of that reality. The inky mass that takes the shape of a fish hovers above the Barracks, drawing the attention of those down below. Unbeknownst to the Shinigami of Thirteenth Division the fish is waking up its sole passenger from a nap.

The fish descends and a Captain hops off of it, Captain Date of the Eleventh Division. He yawns as he draws his blade slightly so that Kurogane may return to it. He walks forward and looks around, his eyes closed to slits as he dons his disarming, yet chastising, smile. Everyone had stopped what they were doing to witness the spectacle that was the Captain’s arrival and beyond just that they were curious about why the Eleventh Division Captain was there at all.

”Sloppy, every single one of you. The Gotei Thirteen is on high alert for a possible war at any moment and you cadavers are idling around and not at the ready.”

”But sir, some of us have returned from constant patrols in the Karakura, these men and women have earned their break.”

”Then go lie in a cot and take a nap. If you have enough energy to gossip and eat garbage then you have enough energy to train or go on another patrol.”

”That’s… That isn’t fair sir, we-”

You are what’s wrong with the Gotei Thirteen, a cancer, a weakness killing it. We are a military force, not a summer camp resort… Hmm, I have indulged you longer than I normally would, feel honored. My nap has put me in a rather good mood it seems.”

He shoves the man aside and walks further into the Barracks, although unknown to Thirteenth Division, his goal is the Captain’s Quarters. He is curious to see the reports being made by Thirteenth. Info from Hueco Mundo has been scarce and Tenth Division would never share their info with him, without force of course. With no Captain or Lieutenant here there is no one here to deny his request to look at their reports. Everyone slowly and nervously returns to their duties, those on break quickly vacate the immediate area near Taro as if hiding from a supervisor. Upon arriving at the Captain’s office he is quick to open the doors as if it were his own. He starts reading over the recent paper work placed on the desk. All it reading and detailing the same thing, the complete absence of Hollow activity aside for a few strays that are below average in strength.

”Hmm… Now there is something.”

He says to himself, his back to the open door of the Captain’s Office. The detail he hones in on is the fact that the Hollow’s that do show up are below average in strength. Naturally the Gotei can gauge what the average strength for a Hollow should be, with the Divisions of Tenth and Thirteenth being exceptionally good at it. Other than a hypothesis that a mass recruitment is happening in Hueco Mundo that is conscripting only strong hollows he doesn’t have much else to go on. The reports are recent, as recent as the last one being delivered thirty minutes ago. He reaches into his Haori and pulls out documents on Hueco Mundo reports, the same information he gave to the Captain of Tenth Division. He places the documents on the desk so the Division can read them. His eyes open and he holds out his hand as if calling upon a Jigokuchō, but that is not what hands on his finger. A terrible buzzing cutting through the air is heard before the ghastly sight of a black cicada appears and lands on his finger. A Jigoku Kuishinbō lands on his finger and shortly after he speaks to it.

”Have the next host prepped and ready for the ritual. This is the calm before the storm and given the information we have we will have to act with our Hand. Fly to the members of the Inner Hand, let them know of what is going on beyond our senses.”

The insect flies off to deliver its message, the sound of its horrid wings is carried on the wind as it leaves. Taro remains in the office, thinking of the next move he needs to, or should, make. He has nothing to go off of besides a receding tide of Hollow that can crash back into the Soul Society or the Human World at any moment and that is the tricky part. There are three fronts that exist and only one front can be reinforced properly given their available numbers.

”With everyone being so unreliable it is hard to figure out what to do next. Not to mention I do not like to report on speculation alone. What trying times we live in where the body of the Gotei Thirteen is expected to fight with its body ridden with Cancer…”

Lieutenant of Wolves Evolves
With great speed Kazuki arrives at Northwest district, his reiatsu entering the senses of many of shinigami of both the 13th and 3rd division. The 3rd division had their eyes to sky as a sense of strength and determination washed over them. Even hours later, they still felt the effects of his Reiatsu, their moral resisting the shadow that has eclipsed the district. While the 13th was too distracted by Captain Date, their throats being choked by his very presence. The reaper looming behind their backs as the Captain sneer at them. He wasn't there to help the 3rd division shinigami, but he will won't let Date just walk over the 13th, he is their shield. The 13th is the responsibility of the 10th, therefore a responsibility of his.

A dust cloud parted as he stepped foot at the gate, the guards were tense. And as soon as they saw the Kazuki, they relaxed slightly. Only to tense up even more at the situation, The infamous Captain of the 11th and the vice captain of the 10th, what is going on? What is going to happen, he was almost afraid to ask.

"VI..Vice Captain Sazanami! You're back, sir... what... why are you here?"

Kazuki placed a hand of his shoulder and glared past him into the courtyard. His eyes squinting, a small smile creeped onto his face as he continued to pat his shoulder. The guard had shiver go down his spine, he has never seen Kazuki smile like this before. It wasn't warm or inviting, but... unreadable, empty. At that moment he didn't know what the vice captain was thinking, but he clearly he didn't want to get in the way of it.

"I apologize for being absent, but I did promise to return. The 13th is now the responsiblity of the 10th, I am here to oversee the training session. I heard the 13th has been slacking slightly, it's no shame, the division is leaderless after all."

"Sir... I don't... it may not be the best time right now."

"It is always a good time for training, in times of peace and quiet we must hone our fangs. Because in times of war and conflict, you either have no time or you'll be dead."

Kazuki continued to pat the shoulder of the guard as a sweat bead went down his forehead.

"Sir... I don't disagree, but..."

"Good, so we best not delay anymore. TRUST ME, this is the best time."

Kazuki tightly gripped his shoulder, making the guard wince, forcing him to look upon the vice captain's face. He didn't sense any malice, at least not directed towards him. He felt his spirit strangely lifted, he felt at peace, invigorated. As Kazuki's reiatsu slowly poured out, effecting the shinigami of 13th as they lifted their heads towards the gates. Something he always did in times of training, allowing the shinigami to work hard and longer than they would on their own. A healthy moral gives birth to strong and healthy shinigami. To trust their very lives for their captain out of respect and true loyalty, not subjugation and fear. Like a wolf, if you beat and starve it, when it has the chance it will bite you and kill you or die cursing your name. Yet if you feed it well and earn it's trust, you'll have it's trust for life. It is still a wolf, a wild animal that you must respect and not underestimate, but at the same time a worthy companion. With a step, Kazuki entered the courtyard and his eyes briefly flickered at the bug that flew off into the sky. The same bug that Kazuki has seen fly to Date and sent him in a fit of rage towards the third division. What was it... it was defiantly like the Jigokuchō, he will have to find out exactly what it was. He didn't have a good feeling about it and most of the time his instincts were right.
”With everyone being so unreliable it is hard to figure out what to do next. Not to mention I do not like to report on speculation alone. What trying times we live in where the body of the Gotei Thirteen is expected to fight with its body ridden with Cancer…”

The words were most likely not whispered as Taro didn't care who heard. If anything Kazuki imagined he wanted the words to pierce and wound the hearts of nearby shinigami. Anyway by now he has officially announced his presense to the whole the barracks, Date including, though he must of defiantly already sensed him even before entering the courtyard. Walking a bit forward he would see Date's captain's cloak in the open door of the office. Slightly obscured by shinigami that stood in the way, trying to avoid gawking at the captain to avoid his attention. Once more he was interfering in affairs that was not his own, abusing the fact that the squad was captainless. Pretending not notice him, he took a breath and spoke in a clear voice. Loud and resonating, but not at the point of shouting or screaming.

"All Shinigami report in front of me now! Even those who have returned from patrols, out here now with due haste and diligence."

Immediately the shinigami stopped their training and rushed out to the courtyard. Even those on break, scrambled out and formed into lines and rows that were slightly haphazard. It made sense, despite their training, they had no leader to push them to point out their mistakes. If it was the 10th, they would have flawlessly formed up without straying in step or rhythm. Kazuki was busy training them to the upmost level, but now it was the 13th division's turn to receive the same transformation.

"It is a shame to see the 13th division in such a state, yet it is not your fault. You are leaderless and have been so for quite some time, you need proper guidance. I am here to announce that until further notice, division 13th is now under the leadership of division ten. Until you appoint your own Captain and Vice-Captain, I Vice Captain Sazanami and Captain Izanagi will be in charge of your training. We divisions of the human world, fronts against those who wish to disturb the balance must be at our highest peak of skill and competience. Now those who came back from patrol, your break is cut short and you are to start a training regime under my command. Once under way, I wish to see patrol documents, to assign the next patrols. Seated officers, you are to assist and inform me in all matters of the 13th. I may even remake the patrol squads for optimum performance."

Silence at the shinigami stared at Kazuki with mouths agape. The news, the announce caught them off guard. First Captain Date walking and now Vice Captain Sazanami making this announcement. Yet instead of the dread and shame they felt from Date's words. They felt determination and hope in Kazuki's words. Together a audible sound echoed out as all shinigami put their legs and arms together before bowing in unison.

"YES SIR!"

"Then what are you waiting for?! Bring me the patrol schedule, continue training until instructions are given. The enemies are not going to be waiting for you start and neither will I, MOVE IT!"

Immediately the shinigami broke apart: those training before whipped into a frenzy and those on break instantly joining in. Forgeting the food and drinks that they left on their tables in a hurry. The seated officers started to move, but froze. They were to get the papers, but a certain captain was in the way. Before some of them thanks to the influence of Kazuki's reiatsu managed to budge and head to one of their offices. Where a copy of reports were most likely to be. Leaving what was a clear view of Captain Date for Kazuki and vice versa. Kazuki pretended to finally notice Captain Date.

"Ah, Captain Date... I apologize for disturbing you. Didn't expect you to still be here, you stated your arrival to the 13th hours ago. I hope nothing impeded your path and I won't pry further as it is not my concern. Now, as matters and concerns of the 13th are now of the 10th, is there anything I need to know? Or is it the same news that was delivered to the 10th division?"

Kazuki's face was calm and unreadable, but his reaitsu was out. Not in a threating way as that will be foolish, but to establish his presence. With the help of Kyoki Chizuki, he fine tuned it to hide his new power that he now eminated. Most likely Captain Date will notice a difference, but what that difference is will be hopefully unknown.

"Other than that, you need not worry about the state of this division, Captain. We captains and Lieutenants of the Gotei Thirteen must do everything to elimate weakness and raise moral in these trying times. The body is indeed ill, but we must not make the mistake of targeting the wrong issues at hand, otherwise there will be nothing left to cure. For there will be nothing left."

Kazuki gave the same smile he gave to the guard. The unreadable smile that would send a shiver done the spine of normal shinigami. As Kazuki was doing his own version of Date's deceptive smile. Kazuki at the same time was standing his ground, but showing respect to someone who earned captain rank. Despite his distain, a position that must be respected. The distain that must be put aside as the secruity and balance of seireitei and the human world is his primary concern. The horrid captain will be dealt within due time, when all settles.

"So is there anything else to address or that I can assist with, Captain?"

Lieutenant Kazuki is most likely standing in the doorway speaking to Taro, whose mind was elsewhere. He was fully aware of his presence there but he simply did not acknowledge him as he didn’t deem him important enough to speak to at the moment. He was prioritizing his current thoughts over any interaction that the Lieutenant was trying to initiate. It wasn’t until the Shinigami spoke and said:

”We captains and Lieutenants of the Gotei Thirteen must do everything to eliminate weakness and raise morale in these trying times.”

That he actually started to listen to him or perhaps he was done with his own thought process to finally entertain the Lieutenant. He read his body language, the way he was standing, speaking and presenting himself were tell tale signs that something rather good has happened to him recently. Whatever it is it had to be enough to boost his confidence level from how he was behaving earlier.

”The body is indeed ill, but we must not make the mistake of targeting the wrong issues at hand, otherwise there will be nothing left to cure. For there will be nothing left."

Taro raises a brow, even his ever present smile turned upside down as he was puzzled by what Kazuki was talking about. Targeting the wrong issues at hand? How delightful it must be to be so ignorant to the greater workings of the world. How great it must be to be so abhorrently blind to the truth of things that the slightest bit of pressure applied to others to get them to work is misconstrued as targeting the wrong issues. The behaviour of the Gotei Thirteen is the issue, the laxed behaviour, the fact they are on war time alert and no one is taking it seriously enough as if they have the manpower to survive an invasion or even an attack. The more Taro listened the bigger the vein on his forehead would bulge. How he would love to crush this man’s windpipe for speaking so brazenly to him. The only thing protecting him is the sheer lack of Shinigami who could replace him. Job security has a way of saving someone's life in more ways than one.

”So is there anything else to address or that I can assist with, Captain?"

”Typically, people only ask that if they ASK for assistance to begin with. There is nothing you can help me with other than being a grunt who can swing a sword. And given our previous encounter you are hesitant to even do that much. But I am in a good mood, much like yourself, so I will entertain your redundant line of questioning and say: No, there is nothing you can address or assist me with that I cannot do myself.”

He begins approaching the Lieutenant and stands in front of him, “looking” at him with his closed eyes, that chastising smile on his face once more. They are face to face, the tension rises rapidly as they are standing face to face. Not in the mood for games or banter his smile fades and he opens his eyes, the green iris’ leering at Kazuki tell him all he needs to know before he even speaks the words out loud.

”Now, be a good Cog and make sure this Division is battle ready and most of all, beyond all else. Get out of my way, now.”

There is a cut of malice to his tone now, no longer is it arrogant or condescending. The look on his face is the gaze of a man who is no longer teasing or playing around. Body language tells a lot and if Kazuki can read it he would be able to see that Taro is quickly becoming hostile. Job security has a way of saving a life but that doesn’t mean it can prevent a trip to the Fourth Division. A clock ticks by, it’s time unknown to all but the Arrancar and this only adds pressure to Taro and the other Nobles who are secretly scrambling to prepare for what is to come. The longer Kazuki takes, the more irritable Taro becomes.

Kazuki didn't falter nor tremble while being face to face with the captain. Even without the new power that boosted his confidence, he always believed to stand his ground, to trust his guts and instincts. He didn't fear death as death was a old friend that he would never forget, nipping at his heels all his life even as a child. By the comparison the reaper that plagued his life was larger and more terrifying than the one Date manifested could ever be. If Date was to send him to the fourth division, then it will just give him a excuse to visit his sister. Yet he knew that Date will not touch him, despite being deplorable man that he was, he was a man of cold logic. Date's words may call him a mindless grunt with a sword, but the fact that he was still standing here uninjured, meant that he was so much more than that. Kazuki's work ethic and diligence to his division and to the gotei 13 has made him a useful asset. One that Date can't overlook especially in these trying times.

”Now, be a good Cog and make sure this Division is battle ready and most of all, beyond all else. Get out of my way, now.”

Not flinching at the malice at Date's voice, he smiled as his body language remained the same.

"I require no assistance, Captain Date. I know what my obligations and duties are, I know we are on the edge of war. I know we can't afford to be lax or lazy, we are a military force after not, not a daycare. Yet it doesn't mean animosity and disdain is to be cast upon the subordinates under our command. Synergy and relations between divisions is already low, no need to lower it even further."

Taking a deep breath, he continued to look at Date with no hostility nor hesitation. The smile still holding as Date's smile faded. Letting a dangerous few seconds pass for his words to register, though he doubted it ever would. Before stepping aside with his guard up just in case something does happen. He felt no fear, nothing as everyone else froze in fear and horror. Holding their breaths as they listened to the minor conflict between Kazuki and Date. To Kazuki, Date was just saying excuses. It was no doubt in Kazuki's mind that Date could easily harm him here and now. Yet Date was a prideful and egotistical creature, too proud to admit when he was wrong. Doubling down and making up excuses to avoid the humble approach. All he was, was a bully and without power to subjugate those around him, bullies are nothing.

"Yet what do I know... I am just a lowly grunt with a sword, surprisingly a good cog. My apologies for even assuming or entertaining the notion that you needed assistance from someone like me. Anyway, this division will be battle ready as good or better than even division 11 itself. You have my word Captain Date and I keep my word.

He gaze still not breaking from Date's gaze, who at this point probably assumed that Kazuki was a irratating knat with a death wish. With each encounter, he begun to deeper and deeper unfold the layers of what made Captain Date. He knew that he only begun to discover the entrance of the dark cavern that was his soul. Yet Kazuki was good at reading reiatsu, good at reading people. He sensed that even for a tiny bit, the upcoming invasion of the Arrancars and the current incompetent state of the gotei 13 had him worried. Kazuki had the same reports of low level hollows in the human world and he was in contact with division 5th of the affairs of Hueco Mundo. If anything his assumptions were the same as Date's.

Not waiting till Date leaves or moves, Kazuki opens a different sliding door and steps into the office behind Date. Announcing in his actions that Kazuki had better things to do than waste time with a captain that was done addressing him and whatever attempts of insults he tried to hurl at him. Immediately going through the paperwork of the patrols and already making changes as he saw multiple flaws in their configuration. Already ignoring the captain, but keeping note of his presense and reiatsu. Work is to be done, moral is to raised, blades are to be sharpened and weakness must be erased. So much to do in so little time, but that's how it's always been.
