Kidō was a peculiar art, and admittedly the most abstract of the zankensoki. This is perhaps why, though there are many practitioners and experts in the field, there are fewer masters in comparison to the other combat forms of the Shinigami. Both Itaku and Kasuka are two such of those few individuals. Hakufuku was a prime example of the abstractness of the Demon Arts. Those versed in its nature know what it does but unless it is used against them, they do not perceive what it does. An illusionary Bakudō spell, when cast rather actually manifesting purple sakura petals in reality, as a means of shifting and drawing away their attention and focus, the petals are conjured solely within their perception, manifested both by and within their mind as it becomes muddled and confused before sleep overtakes them. Kasuka, a master himself, would perhaps recognize the spiritual fluctuations of the spell and find them familiar, especially as he had cast this very same spell himself, yet like Itaku cannot perceive the phantasmal rain of petals that Goro and his colleague do.

A translucent wall divides the two men from one another. The Charmer smiles as the young investigator stares tiredly at him while...sipping something from a mug? Just when and where did he get that from? Curious. Magical mugs aside, Kasuka was the type that Itaku least enjoyed interacting with — solely because the boy was so unreadable. Charming his way into the various hearts and social circles within the Rukongai, and the Seireitei he's heard a few pieces of information about the little genius enough for him to somewhat graft an image of the boy in his mind. He hoped their paths would never cross...he should have known better than to hope, never hope...never. The man seems unperturbed by the monstrous mutt towering over its master. As he tries to discern something from the boy, he can't help but wonder how much of him the detective knows about. So he does what he does best.

He continues to smile
“Uh-huh.”

Was all he had earned from the Seireitei's Hound. As Itaku casually thinks aloud, Kasuka does as expected, and picks up on the hint of information he knows to be something that has not been spread or reported and correctly deduces that it must have happened recently. Vying for every piece of information accessible, Kasuka says nothing, and does nothing to distract the 'rambling' man before him. Itaku continues speaking revealing more for the boy to digest. He now knows that the man is from the Tenth Division and thus this means it is the Tenth's Lieutenant who is dead. Like Itaku he is at a loss on the purpose behind the murder, months after the murder of the Captain.
“Try checking your Human District.”

The first actual thing said to Itaku, who glances up at him. He watches as the boy sips from his mug and then is...suddenly holding some papers in hand. 'Hnnn..' Itaku's expression doesn't shift, his smile doesn't wane at the spectacle that had taken place. Instead, he ponders on the nature of what he had seen, and how it had transpired, but only for the briefest of moments. 'Checking Naruki City huh...it does make sense. The Human world has seen much peace, not just for our turf, but the jurisdiction of the Thirteenth Division as well.' His hand finds his chin, stroking it ever so lightly. 'Maybe its not that the old man had found something in the Seireitei. Perhaps simply...doing his job had gotten him in trouble, realized something was up in Naruki when going through the reports and readings.' His hand breaks away from his chin reaching inside his shihakusho as he beams warmly towards the Spirit Detective. His hand ceases its rummaging at the sight of the orange colored cubes surrounding the mug and papers in Kasuka's hands, both vanishing abruptly from his hand immediately after.

"Say, Rikai-kun. You wouldn't mind helping me protect these two would you? Something tells me, if left alone the Seireitei's mystery butcher just may pay them a little visit."
“Huh? Yeah, sure.”

He agrees to protect those that Itaku himself has protected, in more ways than one. The two gaze into one another's eyes, from an outside perspective one might believe the two to be sharing a moment. They do not wonder if the two are instead perhaps, feeling one another out, peering into the eyes and thus the soul of the one before them, seeking to retrieve whatever they can from the other. Any hints of their thoughts, feelings, each one investigating the other in their own subtle way. Goro and the nurse's sporadic disappearance divert Itaku's gaze as he glances to the spot the two once were, shifting his eyes back to Kasuka, eyes shifting just a little more when seeing something from his peripheral, that something being both Goro and the nurse dangling from the beasts mouth. 'Ahhh...so that's it'. The beast drops the two to the ground, letting them land with a casual yet audible thud.
“Who are you by the way?”

An interesting question, one that Itaku admittedly finds amusing. Was it a baiting question or, did the boy genius truly not know who Itaku was? 'I suppose there's no reason he would know a random seated officer in the Tenth.' He laughed inwardly at himself, thinking how ridiculous it was to assume that from reputation alone the boy would perhaps know any and everything and one in the Seireitei. Itaku pushes himself off the wall, his hand that was still in his shihakusho is finally withdrawn, multiple pieces of folded paper being held in it.

"Ah, sorry sorry, I guess I never did introduce myself did I?! Ahaha."

His laugh was warm and chimed like bells, his free hand knocking gently at his head as if to reprimand his brain for its poor job.

"I'm Itaku Ōhei, Third Seat of Squad Ten. A pleasure to formally meet you."

While not a noble, the way he went about with pleasantries and greetings, when combined with his looks one might very well assume otherwise. Preparing to unfold the pieces of paper he had brought with him from his late Lieutenant's office, his hands, no...his entire body just...stops. No, it wasn't just him. Despite the explosion at Fourth there should have been a ruckus but...everything seemed and felt....hauntingly quiet. His body still refuses to move, eyes choosing to do so in the body's stead. Itaku perceives the infinite web of spiritual threads yet...everything is still, nothing seems to disturb the interlacing web, there exists no vibrations to read or follow. This was...most unusual.

Everything was quiet, everything was still and unmoving — and then it was not. As if a bomb of sound, color and reiatsu had detonated. The spiritual threads that had gone untouched now all reverberated wildly and frantically, becoming almost overwhelming to the reader of the threads. From Sōkyoku Hill an explosive pillar of purple pierces the sky, dwarfing the crimson blade that had reduced the Fourth Division to rubble and ash by many folds.
'The Commander? What-' Itaku like perhaps, all others would perceive the pillar and reiatsu belonging to their Head Captain. Pondering on the cause for such a violent and showy display of spiritual power his question is answered mid-way as another reiatsu is felt being exerted. A layman would merely perceive the two spiritual pressures, unable to feel that they were not being exerted in unison, but rather in opposition to one another.

The Reiyō (霊揺, “Spiritual Vibration”) once again tugs at Itaku's perception shifting his focus as he follows them down their respective glowing threads towards Northwest Seireitei. Here too, two Captain's spiritual pressures were blazing and roaring against one another aggressively, they too stood in opposition of one another. Again, this time at Southeast Seireitei...and again, this time from...from the Rukongai? There was a reiatsu however that flooded the perception.
'Kenpachi Murakami.'
“This is an emergency broadcast! This is Third Seat Takenaka!
Itaku is given no time to his thoughts, no time to dissect not what is taking place, but why it is happening when a voice resounds within his head.
This is Third Seat Takenaka! The Seireitei is under attack! I repeat, the Seireitei is under attack! A group of Captains, led by the traitor Hitoshi Shihaimono, have declared war against the Gotei 13! The Captains of the Fourth, Eighth, and Eleventh have joined the Betrayer’s cause! The Captain Commander’s order is that the members of these rebel Divisions stand-down; those that follow the Commander’s orders shall be pardoned for such treason; those that defy his orders, he will personally execute! All other Divisions are to infiltrate the Divisions of the rebels, and arrest all who do not denounce their treasonous Captains; those who resist are to be eliminated! I repeat! Those who resist are to be eliminated!“
Itaku looks to Kasuka just as Kasuka looks to him. He follows the boys gaze, wondering his thoughts on what they both had just heard alongside the rest of the Gotei 13. 'I could personally care less what the rabble does, but what of you boy wonder?' Takenaka's message has forced the others to take a stance, to choose to aid in the current Gotei or to take up the mantle of traitor and rebel. Either choice placed you at risk, honor be damned. Should the rebels lose, those who fought on such a side under the banner of justice would vanish from history, remembered only as villains and devils. Conversely, should those that opposed them fall at their blade, the innocent and ignorant who merely followed the status quo, would undoubtedly be demonized by the victors of this foolish conflict. He watches as Kasuka presses his finger against the transparent wall separating them, only for another of its kind, clearly different in nature to be erected. Itaku says nothing in regards to this, standing idly by as he watches the boy and his dog step out to join him on the other side.

And still, he smiles

Rather focusing on what Kasuka does next, Itaku instead returns to the pieces of paper he had unfolded, green eyes scanning from top to bottom.
World of the Living: Naruki City Field Report
//WL2k R/

0700: Chōbara district perimeter check complete

0830: Unit 12 successfully performed Konsō on fifty Pluses

1215: Brief spike in Hollow activity in Quadrant 7. Unit 45 Dispatched to investigate and cleanse.

1220: Unit 45 Reports back no Hollows detected.

The report continues on in such a manner, Itaku willing himself to stay focused as he studies each report while Kasuka continues with..whatever he was doing. Was this truly meaningless, perhaps Kasuka had gotten it wrong and the Lieutenant had just happened across something. That is until he thought of something.
1400: Unit 5 Reported in an adjuchas and engaged with target. Unit 5 sustained injuries, reports Hollow's escape.

1635: Hollow activity detected at Naruki University. Units 3 and 15 dispatched to investigate.

1655: Units dispatched report the Hollow to be a Jibakurei. Report the spirit cleansed.
He wonders, were these reports truly just nothing? At a glance everything seemed in order, the units patrolling Naruki City were handing in their reports as usual, yet...something felt...off about some of them. He looks at the time logs of each report, each documented work related injury while in the field, each request for supplies and what specifically was being requested.
"Go with them, fetch me if it's important."

Kasuka's murmured and whispered message does not draw Itaku from his studying, but his louder and clearer command to the strange dog does register with the man. Eyes pull away from the logs held in his hand as he witnesses the vanishing of the dog, the thunderous explosive roar accompanied the creature's exit. Itaku glances at the crater left behind by the odd mutt then to Kasuka, seeming to briefly glance behind the boy, then to the side. Itaku says nothing, his teeth on full display as he smiles at the child detective who turns to face him.

"Well that wa-"
“I’m heading to the Shiba compound. Come or stay. Just don’t waste my time.”
In a casual tone the boy interjects Itaku, announcing his departure and the destination he had in mind. 'The Shiba Compound huh? What's there or, rather what does he hope to find there?' Unaware of the Shiba's alleged treachery and hand in the chaos erupting around them, the man's curiosity his certainly piqued. He watches as Kasuka thrusts himself in the direction of his destination in a shunpo, while he lingered behind. He shakes his head before combing his fingers through his hair. Lifting a hand he waits quietly for several moments before a black butterfly lands gently atop the offered hand. He smiles lifting the creature up to his lips and mutters something before lifting it up, watching it flutter away. He prepares to leave, pausing one last time to inspect his surroundings, eyes slowly shifting as his head turned from one side to the other. He says nothing and jettisons off, his shunpo quickly pulling him to Kasuka's side. He looks toward the young shinigami, the wind brushing their hair as the sounds of war and the scores of reiatsu reverberate throughout the entirety of the Seireitei.

"So, what's at the Shiba's Compound?"

Traveling from Southeast Seireitei: Seventh Division Barracks ->Northeast Seireitei: Fourth Division Barracks

Mujin was moving with haste over the Seireitei, his speed only slowing when he saw the water well in the courtyard a few wall lengths behind the Fourth Division compound. As he landed on the wall nearest to the Division the entire building was overtaken with a massive red light. Mujin covered his face and torso with his arms as his own destructive reiryoku manifested around I'm as reiatsu. The explosion and fire from this mysterious kido sent Mujin flying off the wall and into a building in the courtyard over.

The stone and debris made visibility zero, Mujin was stuck in the blast of this Kido, trapped in the floor beneath this random house His body was burned badly but nothing debilitating as he had enough time to layer defense against some of the damage, but why was kido used in the first place? Mujin could barely breathe or think, he was starting to have memories wash through his mind when suddenly his thoughts were drowned out. Physically he couldn't see, or smell anything. Yet he knew something was wrong, his body was on high alert, more so than a random Kido.

Mujin reached out, searching for spiritual presence, Anyone, Anything at this point was better than the worry, and dread. Mujin was starting to feel these emotions crawl toward the front of his mind. This tension and gut feeling of danger was something Mujin had trained for years to suppress, it was the feeling only one act can achieve, and something only those that have felt it before can remotely relate to. However, this blank gray slate of nothing Mujin got back was just as bad.

Lastly, Mujin was overtaken by the sudden rush of this nothing as he finally felt it in its full capacity. Only for a second, yet it felt like it could have been his entire lifetime, up to this point.

On the precipice of new beginnings, the cursor of history slid ever closer to the edge of an eerie quietness; it was a silence layered in three parts.

7a643aa53385674975b0dafa171bccf8.png

Part one: Pale Reminders.
Hundreds of years prior;

Mujin sat on his stone bed, staring out into the facility's dim light and overbearing eyes. No one was allowed to talk to, go near, or touch this raggedy-looking dirty boy. A part from the occasional scientist or doctor from the Twelfth or Fourth. He was locked in a place called the Nest of Maggots and had been there as long as he could remember. Brought here as a baby due to his reiryoku being destructive and deadly in nature. His life unknown to him was in the hands of a certain family. One with an exiled daughter who loved to move against the ebb and flow of 'normal'.

Ha, Chi, Ko. He remembered her introducing herself as if she was three separate people completely. Mujin didn't really care for this or for her talking to him. It took her months of non-stop talking to finally get a smile out of the boy. Through medical work a sort of friendship was formed, She even helped pull the strings on introducing him to the shinigami that eventually became his 'mother'. It all leads to wars, It always leads to war.

Part Two: Lament of Hollow.

It was a long time coming, but finally, the Seireitei was given what was promised to them. A weapon of destruction to the Hollow kind. Unrelenting, Brutal, Murderer, Monster, Devil, there weren't enough names one could call Mujin as he waged bloodshed over the sands of Hueco Mundo. The seireitei had been overly cautious so Central 46, refused to give Mujin his Zanpakutoo for fear Mujin would use it against his captors. He made one request if they refused to give him his sword, Mujin requested his Brother Muzan, be allowed freedom and to go with Mujin into Hueco Mundo.

Once there they mostly did as they pleased, getting the occasional mission update from the Seireitei rank in charge of their direction. For thousands of years, the Dragon brothers of the Ryodoji will be known by any unlucky survivors of the Unhollowed Wars. Mujin can't speak for all of the things Muzan may have done, but Mujin knows his hands were covered in the blood of anything deemed hollow, pleading for mercy or threatening him with revenge, it mattered not.

More than just Mujin was worried about the brother's sanity when they were deemed done and allowed to return to the Seireitei. Hachiko insisted Mujin go into the Seventh Division under Minori Hara, Captain of the Seventh, a powerful Gotei Captain. She had seen Mujin's strength firsthand and even took a direct interest in him. He cared for her like a mother he never had.

Part Three: Primal Causality.

de947e77228d13688fe85a3527f485c7.png

The insane and mind-boggling reiatsu of multiple top-ranking shinigami pulsated the Seireitei, as Mujin lay in the ruins of Fourth Division. He looked off towards the nearest source of reiatsu he could, someone that would know what was going on, then he felt one, the esteemed Captain of the Fourth, Sachiko Kuchiki apparently in battle with the deadly Captain of the Second, Nobu Tsunayashiro.

Mujin looked the other way and felt out, In the Southeastern Quadrant, Captain Arisu Nakazawa’s radiant spiritual pressure could be felt clashing with that of the passionate Captain Kusumoto’s.

Then in the First District of the Northern Rukongai, The Demon Blade Kenpachi appears to be harvesting would for no reason other than he enjoys the bloodlust. With him, Mujin could feel the Twelfth’s Captain, Hatsumei Takaki, and that of the Sixth’s Captain, Etsuko Nakajima, The latter of which was removed shortly after the flares of reiatsu.

However, Mujin, as he stood back up and wiped the first from himself would slowly reach up towards his earrings. His body was facing a singular source he had yet to mentally comment on. It was an enormous explosion of purple light and energy larger than the Itto Kaso could hope to be. It was the Reiatsu of the Captain Commander, yet he was not alone.

The second magnificent reiatsu Mujin felt atop the hill of Sokyoku was none other than the Captain of the Ninth, Hitoshi Shihaimono. Once felt, Mujin started to vibrate from anger, This signature was the one mentioned in the diary, and at the end of the day Who needs to sit around and wait for answers when Mujin could just blitz this traitor here and now?

“This is an emergency broadcast! This is Third Seat Takenaka!

The Seireitei is under attack! I repeat the Seireitei is under attack!

A group of Captains, led by the traitor Hitoshi Shihaimono, have declared war against the Gotei 13! The Captains of the Fourth, Eighth, and Eleventh have joined the Betrayer’s cause!

The Captain Commander’s order is that the members of these rebel Divisions stand down; those that follow the Commander’s orders shall be pardoned for such treason; those that defy his orders, he will personally execute!

All other Divisions are to infiltrate the Divisions of the rebels, and arrest all who do not denounce their treasonous Captains; those who resist are to be eliminated!

I repeat! Those who resist are to be eliminated!“

There was so much going on Mujin was starting to get confused with it all, he didn't know where to go or what to do, it was as if panic was setting in, something the assailants wish among those who are attempting to protect, and honor. Then suddenly without warning the words he heard days ago that set him on his current path rang in his mind once again.
"her body had been severed in two and left to decay where she was murdered."
Mujin's eyes went into the back of his head. This was no time to play investigator, or try and find Hachiko who is probably off on some mad errand, There were orders to eliminate those who resist. Mujin used this to let loose as he took a large deep breath before letting it out in a rage-filled scream, cascading his reiatsu into the area.

Listen while you read!
"RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

His hands would make sure the earrings are tightly in and suddenly the debris around him from the fallen buildings and walls would compress and then dissolve under the massive weight of Mujins Reiatsu. Almost invisible silver streaks like heat waves would fume off the surrounding one hundred feet, with lime green rays flickering between. Inside this field, Mujins reiatsu would start eating away at anything it touched. Those inside it would start to feel sick. This was the controlled amount, the version he was able to get away with using inside the Seireitei walls without getting in trouble.

The Fallen prince would allow this reiatsu wave to spike into the sky, Allowing all near to know his intent as he bolted off towards the direction of either Hitoshi Shihaimono, or one of his co-conspirators

The outskirts of the Northeast Seireitei rumbled ferociously as the Itto Kaso made its finalizing mark on the land. Blinded by a sea of red and debris, Hachiko’s sanguine wings struggled to keep her and her load afloat in the now darkened skies. A tremendous shockwave of twisted spiritual energy bombarded the trio and propelled the Vice-Captain back from whence she had come. Now, the youthful woman was normally quite skilled maneuvering in the air but contending with the might of the devastating demonic spell, even the aftermath of it’s detonation, proved to be too much for her to carelessly handle. Both of the blood wings erected themselves into a rigid defense against the oncoming seismic burst and so she was saved from direct harm but momentarily lost control of her momentum.

“Ngh!!”

Immediately after, came the unbearable heat’s assault which caused Ha to wince and begin to frantically search her surroundings for somewhere to find sanctuary away from the unforgiving elements careening toward her. Considering herself to have no other option, she turned tail and took off, toward anywhere that she’d be able to safely land and collect herself. It’s then that the fourth’s Lieutenant spied an area that had been relatively undisturbed at the Northeast's outskirts and landed there. As the waves persisted but began to relent, Hachiko set the witness aside and did not tend to him further as she was well aware that he was alive. Although he’d been encased in rust previously, the obstruction of his mouth and his nose had been removed by Uemura early on into the earlier confrontation with Toshiyuki. All he really needed was going to be the rest he was getting at that moment and so, Ha turned her attention to the fourth seat she’d been preoccupied with since the start of her investigation. As she began to rapidly sew his limbs back to his body with thread and a needle, she finally deactivated her Shikai which had been persisting for far longer that she had intitally intended and this caused her wings to collapse onto the ground a crimson mess once she was confident she had saved his limbs from amputation. With silence looming, inescapable questions started to arise inside of her.

Why had she decided to protect this man?

She barely knew him if at all. Naturally, there was no question that the actions she had taken had an abundance of ulterior motives and one could accurately determine they involved the dismantlement of his body and if she was lucky, his very brains. Compared to the majority of the traditional Shinigami, he showed the people of the Rukongai a kindness and consideration she had yet to see in all of her centuries. Such a thing was peculiar enough to pique the scientist's interest to the point that she’d invested effort and even put her own life on the line just so that she could keep him alive and breathing.

Until that day neither of them had crossed paths and yet, Ko decided that he was so important to her research that she had neglected her own duties to the fourth and that negligence could have very well led to its destruction. So, why?

The short answer was that Hachiko Goseikanjo honestly didn’t care about the fourth division. For so long she had been writhing in unbearable BOREDOM stuck in the services of the mundane by her own stupid choice. It had been a place she’d stationed herself under the premise that she was able to get intimate with the entrails of both warm and cold bodies alike. By all accounts, she had gotten what she had wanted, satiating some bloodlust, but she quickly learned that she would not be able to fully express herself in all of her morbid glory to the extent that she desired. For most, Hachiko’s fascinations were too much for any of her colleagues to endure and very early on they were discouraged by Captain Sachiko Kuchiki. This was the woman, the only woman, capable of reeling Ha’s sordid ambitions in and when she was around the Captain, Ko more than always took over the control of Hachiko’s consciousness in order to avoid exposing the somber leader to her less than dignified personas. Ko’s ideals aligned with the Kuchiki heir’s but inside…Hachiko was not content. She was not content to play hospital with all of the meek plebeians, not content to listen to their meaningless problems and not content to perform humdrum surgeries that ended with the preservation of her patient’s longevity.

She was not content.

The woman was restless admittedly, as of late her thoughts brought her back to a more simpler time when she was employed in the ranks of the twelfth division. There, she had been allowed and encouraged to explore her depravity in service of the Gotei thirteen. So long as she dubbed it research, Hachiko had been permitted to reach for the stars so to speak when it came to collecting valuable data. As a war hero, she was also indisputably respected among her peers but she was also feared. So much so that she was left alone most of the time to her own devices and only surfaced from her laboratory to showcase the fruits of her cruel labor. When it came to subjects she considered ripe for testing, Hachiko was viciously protective and would do anything to ensure they remained safe from those that wished them harm not because she was concerned for their lives but that she would lose a precious opportunity to further fulfill her horrible inquisitions. That, and she fought tirelessly against those who sought to put a stop to future experimentations often resulting in the sudden disappearance of those foolish enough to make that sort of attempt.

Truthfully, the mad doctor could care less whether anyone in the soul society lived or died so long as she could wade in blood and gore for all eternity without issue. The freedom of the twelfth division had afforded this comfort to the unhinged Lieutenant and when she’d made the change to the more tame fourth, she would be battling with palpable regret ever since. Amongst the three of them, Ko was who cherished the Captain but luckily for Ha, Ko was too tired to gain dominion over their body for now. There was no one to separate her from her slumbering test subject and so she began to remove a trusty stainless scalpel from somewhere hidden on her person. There was so much that she had to do to ensure that Shin’eki would not succumb to those evil doers aiming to wrench his life away from her and she barely had any time left before…

“This is an emergency broadcast! This is Third Seat Takenaka!

The Seireitei is under attack! I repeat, the Seireitei is under attack!

I repeat! Those who resist are to be eliminated!“

The third seat’s panicked remote communication shocked Hachiko’s senses enough to stay her glinting blade for the moment. To her amusement it appeared that the saga of the deeds being done in the dark were starting to come to their climax. A great amount of mystery had been painting the situation befalling the Rukongai people she’d been sent to probe about to be quite troublesome. It was clear that something nasty was afoot and she had known it was only a matter of time before the harbingers of the chaos were to have revealed themselves. As it stood, she hardly had any actual interest in who was doing what and for whatever reason as per usual.

A creepy grin began to stretch wider upon her pale lips the more information she was fed. By the sounds of it, the Seireitei was in the throes of a civil war that’d been brewing and festering for quite some time. Now that she thought about it, Ha barely recalled times when her Captain would air personal grievances as to the treatment of the common citizens of the soul society. To think that her resentment was so strong that she would band together with other Captain’s of foreign divisions to take a stand against the powers that be was mildly surprising to the Vice-Captain. Not only this, it would also appear that any who stood in opposition of the retaliation of the Captain Commander’s orders to stand down as well as the denouncement of the rising rebellion, were to be arrested and then executed. They really aren’t leaving anyone with much of a choice now are they?~ I guess I’ll have to have something to do with this won’t I?

“My dear Hachikō. I’m sorry that this information had to reach you in this way, but forgive me; Captain Shihaimono pleaded that I keep our plans away from all, even my most trusted.

What you’ve just heard is true. Captain Shihaimono leads us in rebellion against the Captain Commander, and the Central Forty-Six. The Soul Society has suffered too long, and our patience has run thin. Kō, my love, I plead to you: believe in Captain Shihaimono’s cause, and help us see it through.

My blade has crossed with Captain Tsunayashiro’s; I do not know if I will see you again…

…find me.”

As if on cue, Captain Kuchiki’s irritatingly soft voice emitted itself from a Hell Butterfly which manifested according to the will of its sender. As she listened to her rationalization of her traitorous actions and her plea, Ha felt nothing but apathy. The treatment of the people was not something she concerned herself with after all, but, the ongoings of the battle at hand piqued her curiosity something fierce. Utterly neutral, Hachiko still rose to her feet and turned her attention into the direction of her Captain’s raging signature. Relying on her competent Reikaku, the Lieutenant clocked multiple spiritual sensations in the surrounding area. Some, she was very much unfamiliar with and would not bother to sleuth them out. Without a doubt, they must have been given their own instruction and she did not intend to interfere. Momentarily, she honed in on a pleasantly familiar spike of Reiryoku. It was easy for her to identify the one who possessed it’s explosive power to be none other than her own personal experiment, Muijin Ryodoji. What exactly he was doing in a place like the fourth division without any indication to her that he’d be visiting escaped Hachiko. As far as she knew, she had not invited him around and so something significant surely must have happened to drag the toxic brute out of his isolation. She recognized hatred burning from inside out of the man but she was unable to enjoy its handsome sear for long before he bulldozed away on the hunt for what was now a very unfortunate target.

"Everyone’s all worked up…Hm…”

Longingly, she cast her cold gaze down at Shin’eki and withdrew her sharp tool. Sadly, it seemed that her tinkering would have to wait and he would need to fend for himself for now. Instead, the surgeon reached into her other pocket and removed a small pile of red powder. From there, she scattered the substance over Uemura’s body but she was careful to avoid his face or anything respiratory. Immediately, his Reiryoku would have been completely concealed to prying eyes, a last act of protection for her new lab rat. At the very least, no one should have been able to locate him until he was awake and ready to move into the fray. From there, she also sprinkled the mix onto the witness's body as well as she had also decided to leave that man's fate in Uemera's hand. It was a shame she couldn't stick around to see what that would be. Satisfied with herself, she began to ponder what to do next. Perhaps she would make a trip to Sachiko like her Captain wished, if anything, to observe her fight purely for her own interests as she hadn’t quite decided who’s side she would be joining.

"Until next time…~ Remember, I did not permit you to die and I shall punish you in your next life if you do.”

Just as she stood, something lashed out from the shadows of the trio’s mind. It felt like being struck by a bolt of lighting and just like that…

“Vice-Captain Goseikanjo?!”

A pack of fourth division members, namely ten, hurriedly jogged toward her position. They were no worse for wear, having the fortune of being a good distance away from the compound when the cataclysmic incantation commenced. Her back was to them, so she could not see their happy, worried and relieved expressions at the notion that at the very least she was still alive.

"We thought..we’re so glad you’re safe! Everything is gone…please what should we do?! There’s so much fighting all around us!”
Noticing that their Lieutenant was without her own Shihakusho, one of the members removed their own to give to her. To which, she found it snatched out of her small hands. Hachiko slipped it on over her shoulders, and fastened it's front without a word of appreciation. Ripping a bit of their sleeves, she tied a fresh black bow in her rancid locks. It's then that it occurs to her that in her previous contention with the Commander of the Omnitsukido, she had additionally lost her badge to the wreckage which announced to all that she held the rank that she did and that she was in allegiance with the fourth division to begin with.

They did not know what to do, it immediately occurred to her that her Captain had only the opportunity to leave her a message. Without direction in this uncertain time, the shinigami were akin to leaves quivering in torrential winds. Perfect.

Hachiko exhaled with a low hiss and cracked her neck audibly from the left and then to the right. To those with keen sensory ability, they noticed that something was different about their Lieutenant’s usual giddy atmosphere. Her hair lacked its fluffy curls, so they knew that the one called Ha was not presently engaging them. There was also not a single tail on the top of her head to indicate they were conversing with their more reasonable supervisor Ko either. No…now the strands of her blood red hair were jagged and unkempt. Deadly intent behind pulsating Reiatsu caused the officers to notice their noses had started to bleed, some were even bleeding from their ears and yet they felt no pain. Coming to the realization that the being who stood before them was not who they presumed her to be, horror took over their soft faces. With an angry voice, Hachiko turned to face them and exclaimed something rather sternly.

“ I dunno what's going on right now, but our captain’s in danger. Whatever that means, we get our asses over there!”

Too stunned to move, the medics could do nothing but nod in agreement, so fervent was the domineering spiritual power of their Vice-Captain. Some of them wondered what would happen if they sided with the rebellion like Captain Kuchiki had but none had the guts to defy their furious Lieutenant's declaration. Finally making her appearance, Chi took in a deep breath of the atmospheric discord through her nose and breathed it out. A snake like tongue slithered out of her gaping mouth, lapping at the tip of her chin compulsively. It had been too long since the demon in her soul had been released unto the universe. Under normal circumstances, such an occurrence would have been unthinkable. Hachiko did a wonderful job of suppressing Chi’s erratic soul but in the event that something had been done to enrage the Vice-Captain, Chi broke down those metaphysical barriers with ease as she utilized that uncontrollable anger and bloodlust as a catalyst to do so. What pray tell, could have possibly unlocked the blood soaked beast’s cage?

A great number of inestimable damage had been done to the fourth division’s hospital and barracks alike. Paperwork, equipment and above all else every stuffed animal that Hachiko had painstakingly acquired over the course of her lifetime. Whoever had been behind that insufferable incantation was going to pay dearly for what they had done that day and the only place she could think of to start her hunt for them was going to be wherever Sachiko Kuchiki ended up. Nevermind that she was currently clashing blades with another Captain, Captain Tsunayashiro no less, Chi was too blinded by her undignified rage and grief to care.

“All of you! With me!”

Indisputably commanded, the timid group followed after their volatile Lieutenant as she shunpoed alongside them toward the confrontation going down between her Captain and their opponent.

While suspended, seemingly within a vacuum space, time became dilated, immemorial as Shin’eki was put to his paces against, seemingly, none other than himself.

Lake-of-Rot-Elden-Ring-Featured-Image-v2-1024x576.jpg

Scars, upon what could only be described as a rotting hellscape, seemed to become more and more frequent as damage done from the results of a blade were permanently etched into the solid structures of the location in which the two exchanged blows within. How many times had the same exchange occurred? Once could only estimate at this point, for it would seem both parties seemed to repeat the same eb and flow of actions and reactions. The encroachment of an unknown entity walking across the surface of a lake of blood. The results of a weakened Shin’eki being backed into a corner and having to evade a single thrust that would splinter yet another tree.

Gripping onto a bloodied stone, Shin’eki would find himself deflecting the vital blow to his chest with a single strike, using the blunt edge of the stone to deflect the vector in a single swift reaction; almost as if instinctive in nature. This simple, yet foretelling exchange would continue to echo within the inner world of the Shinigami, its echo like a ripple across the surface of a still body of water. Though with each ripple, small subtle contexts would begin to manifest between the two entities, as the short and to-the-point exchange began to grow longer, and longer in length over a dramatic amount of time that would go without consequence. For this echoing, this installment of will, would only reverberate within the fourth seat’s being. Every exchange now manifested a new sense of being, as a familiar blade now found itself within the clutches of Shin’eki’s grip. The once lost, pre-described “lever of security” was now adorned upon his hip.

Rather than await the threat’s arrival. Shin’eki, now having found his lost confidence, rushed the figure head-on. A wake of sanguine liquid at his wake as he dashed toward the figure, the two clashing blades as the force of the kinetic energy displaced the water beneath them, a surprised figure looks on, eyes wide with surprise, as the water crashes upon the shore, washing away the piles of wood, the tides lapping up toward the walls of the bare, jagged stone that surround the area.

The need for introductions were no longer needed, as the instinct within Shin knew this being– this figure– this entity, was the cause for his being here. A scheming smirk would etch across the figure's lips as he held his own, parrying his blade with the force of Shin’s full, now reclaimed strength.

(“This is an emergency broadcast!
I repeat! Those who resist are to be eliminated!“)

The voice of the introduced Third Seat Takenaka would boom across the skies above. Almost as if thunder by nature within the subconscious of Shin’eki’s mind. The voice, while seemingly foreign and alien to him would unsurprisingly bring about a moment of weakness in Shin’eki as his attention was drawn away from his current undertaking, a moment that would be capitalized against as the figure would bring a sucker punch across the face of a bewildered Shin’eki, sending him flying into a nearby rock formation, generating a crevice in his wake as he became submerged into the sedentary. Leaping into the opening of the now makeshift cave, the figure would pull down upon his face mask, revealing his full face, as his head cocked down toward Shin’eki, almost in a taunting fashion.

”Well Bōzu, seems like our little charade will have to come to an abrupt end…”

With a jolt, the 5th Division Officer would come to, having found himself under the knife, literally as Hachiko was performing her medical duties upon him. He’d remain still, as if pretending to continue to be unconscious. How long had he been out for? where were the-

With the delay of his Reikaku, as he was coming to, the sudden waves of titanic-sized spiritual pressure signatures seemed to be coming from every feasible area of Seireitei.

The head captain, Hotaka Shihōin’s spiritual pressure seemed to be emanating from the center of Seireitei itself, as it appeared he was facing off against the Captain of the Ninth, Hitoshi Shihaimono.

Shin’eki’s senses continued to feel outward, like tendrils in a sense from one area to the next beginning from most potent to least, if one could even describe such a phrasing.

In the Northwestern Quadrant, the Reiatsu of the deadly Captain of the Second, Nobu Tsunayashiro, and that of the esteemed Captain of the Fourth, Sachiko Kuchiki, would be sensed at the ready to strike one another down.

In the Southeastern Quadrant, Captain Arisu Nakazawa’s radiant spiritual pressure could be felt clashing with that of the passionate Captain Kusumoto’s.

Lastly, within the First District of the Northern Rukongai, one Souls spiritual pressure could be felt across the entirety of the Soul Society, reaching out even beyond the known Districts, and drowning out all others; it was a spiritual signature so demonic, so filled with killing intent, that the blood of his future victims would be tasted upon the tongues of all; such a signature belonged to the Kenpachi, Kenta Murakami. Alongside him were two, that of the Twelfth’s Captain, Hatsumei Takaki, and that of the Sixth’s Captain, Etsuko Nakajima, the latter of which faded quickly…

Of all the captain’s reiatsu’s to be sensed, where was Captain Hashimoto? The man of which clearly sent Shin’eki upon this who convoluted wild-goose chase in the first place. Even Otokogi-sensei’s reiatsu could be felt from this distance, however the man who had previously done in Shin’eki’s reatsu was no longer sensible. Seems Oto-sensei was successful in quelling the enemy. Thank goodness. Almost as if to answer Shin’eki’s next question, an all too familiar voice rings inside of his mind. Was this another Tenteikura Transmission? Who were these other voices around him outside of Hachiko’s?

“Rusty! HELLO?! The Captain’s vanished and Vice-Captain Tsunyashiro just got woken up by that transmission! He’s PISSED! Where the hell are you?! Hurry up and get here before the Vice-Captain loses his shit!”

Why did she have to call him rus- Wait a minute did she just say Kaisei-senpai woke up? (Uh-oh…)

Almost in synchronicity with the sudden taste of copper in his mouth, Shin’eki’s eyes would widen, his vision pink and blurry for a moment until it was blinked away, and as it was, so too was the disappearance of Lady Hachiko, as well as her personal entourage. He’d have hazily picked up on one or two of her sentences, but for all extensive purposes, he’d have omitted a majority of her conversation due to the ongoing exchange between not only Shin’eki’s internal dialog, but also his internal skirmishing. Shifting his gaze toward the witness who lay motionless beside him, save for the rise and crescendo of his chest signaling his well-being, Shin’eki would lift his hand up, clenching it, feeling the sensation of his digits again. The action felt a slight stiff, though to his conjecture, the remedied battle wounds would suffice for now. Time was of the utmost importance, and once again, Shin’eki would be burdened with the weight of carrying the witness once more, however this time, he’d close in on the Fifth Division’s barracks post haste. A Jigokucho could be seen flying alongside him, before landing upon Shin’s shoulder. Seems this indeed would be the most effective in sending and receiving messages, as a means to using Kido was a forbidden art to him. A taboo if you would. His thoughts would be relayed to the winged messenger.

(I’m enroute to Fifth Barracks, I apologize if I’ve missed your calls, my
Denreishiki’s toast. If it wouldn’t be too much trouble, could you send for a party to meet me halfway to guarantee my safe return? I've had one hell of a day…. Fourth Seat Uemura, signing out.)

With nothing short of a passing moment, the ebony and scarlet insect would fade from his eyesight as he performed a set of hurried shunpo one right after another hoping to close the distance between himself and the safety of his hopefully awaiting squadmates with utmost haste..

Listen While You Read

Deep within the once hollow and quiet halls of the Fifth Division, a green-haired male Shinigami lay comfortably atop his quill-feather futon bed; from within his dark chamber, the ever-changing bright colors of his projected Denreishinki were accompanied by the sound of intermittent voices, often cut off mid sentence. Outside his chambers, however, the Squadron had been reduced to chaos.

Slurp.

Lemon candy swirled about his mouth as he boredly scrolled through his special-issue Denreishinki, granted to him by birthright. The Tusnayashiro, being the wealthiest and most powerful Great Noble House, was always at the forefront of advances, be they technological or otherwise; there were many within the Seireitei, up and down ranks and Divisions, who pledged their fealty to the mightiest of the Greats. The Twelfth was no exception, and as such the Tusnayashiro were often one of the first to get their hands on the latest and greatest. Beautiful thing about this particular gadget was that he had access to his family’s Visual Surveillance Department with just a push of his finger. Crazy, huh?

Slurp.

With every swipe, Kaisei witnessed the mess that was the Soul Society. Having been woken by that little shit of a Third Seat’s Tenteikūra, which was amateurish, the Tsunayashiro Heir had since been bombarded with hell butterflies from all over the Seireitei, to include many from his own family; every one of them asking as to what in the flying hell was going on. Kaisei in turn had ignored them all because:

One: it was too much effort.

Slurp.

Two: he hated all the politics.

Slurp.

And three: how the fuck was he supposed to know?

Well, that wasn’t entirely true, because one little detail that many likely had overlooked was: where oh where, was the good old sneaky Captain Hashimoto? The seismic detonation of the Ittō Kasō had decimated the Fourth Division, and yet, Kaisei’d slept right through the earthquake born from its aftermath; his quarters, like much of the Fifth's officer’s barracks, had taken quite the shock, many of his belongings having fallen to the wooden floors in a mass of a mess. There was one thing, however, that forced the Vice-Captain’s hairs to stand prickly; once he’d woken, at the cusp of the Ittō Kasō’s implosion, the signature laden within the source of the blast spoke to Kaisei about the very creator of that forbidden spell. It was a contradiction, a spiritual power both familiar and yet foreign; unmistakably Hollow; unmistakably...

This fascinating spiritual pressure had then been eclipsed by one of a concoction, formulated with the Reiatsu of the Captains of the Seireitei. Although an enormous and historic sensation, one that wouldn’t likely happen again for thousands of years, it meant little to the Tsunayashiro heir; he tuned it out as quickly as it’d come, fading into the background like the white noise that it was.

It’d been years, hell maybe decades, since Kaisei had been allowed to jump into Hueco Mundo, all at the orders of his own Captain. From the get go, it’d been too much of a fuss to give a shit, so Kaisei just shrugged and fell back onto his trifecta of vices: food, women, and sleep. But even a pea-sized lizard brain would notice the small details gathered over centuries, especially with the proximity that the two Shinigami shared. Kaisei knew the shit-face was up to something, but what exactly, and how he was involved in this mess, he did not know.

“Bzz bzzbzz bzz bzzbzzbzz bzz.”

Kaisei swiped at his ears in hopes he’d kill whatever was causing that dreadful sound.

Slurp.
Scroll.

“I cut down the Onmitsukido Commander not too long ago.”

Little Toshi’d gotten himself killed? Ha! It was only a matter of time, anyways; the kid was too green. Especially if his opponent was the Old Fart. Seeing the oldie brought Kaisei a fountain of memories during his time within the Academy, none of them fond. He skipped over the rest.

“I’ll be the executioner.”

Kaisei chuckled.

With him was the Wind-Walker; no surprise there, literally the old man’s lap dog.

“Bzz bzz bzzbzzbzzbzz bzzbzz bzz.”

Slurp.
Scroll.

A terribly blurred capture of Sōkyoku Hill; nothing worthwhile to be seen.

Kaisei continued to scroll through the recordings until he came upon his eldest brother, who was in battle with Captain Kuchiki. He watched intently, but briefly, before moving on.

“Bzz bzzbzz bzzbzz bzzbzzbzz bzz bzz bzzbzz.”

Scroll.
Crunch!

The image of the enormous, scorched crater came to view, in place of the relief station that once rose to its historic prestige; a good portion of the Fourth had been desecrated beyond recognition. He scrolled, looking about the Fourth Division with amusement…

Crunch.

…well, well, well, if it wasn’t his little rust bucket, resting unconscious within the grasp of that crazed bitch of a Shinigami; upon seeing his Fourth Seat, Kaisei froze. The sweet and sour innards of the lemon candy assaulted his taste, yet no one would be the wiser with how stoic he remained.

Crunch.
Crunch.
Crunch.

The intel on Shin’eki's whereabouts were finally corroborated with visuals; he’d been told about the Fourth Seat’s mission as so responsibly commanded by their missing Captain. That one itsy-bitsy-tiny detail about the involvement of Hollows came back to Kaisei’s mind, rushing down to touch his heart, pumping him with adrenaline.

It seemed Kaisei wasn’t alone.

Just as contact was made with the prone Vice-Captain’s shoulder, the perpetrator found himself face first into a very cozy futon, and Kaisei’s foot atop his head, with just enough pressure to drive the point home.

Kaisei licked the roof of his mouth in search of that sugary goodness, his eyes still glued to his Denreishinki. “Ah, so you were the little fly buzzing in my ears. Very annoying.” His foot pressed down with a slight bit more pressure; the Third Seat’s teeth clenched down harder.

“Like I’ve told you lot a thousand times, ‘at no time, and in no circumstance, should you touch me without receiving permission first; only one exception to this: if you’re the prettiest woman to ever have lived’”, having had enough, Kaisei shut off the device and put it into his Shihakusho, and looked down upon his subordinate. “Now tell me, Akinawa, are you the prettiest woman to ever have lived?”

An observer would infer the question to be rhetorical, but no, an answer was expected. Third Seat Akinawa, above all, knew this very well.

“No sir, I’m sorry! It’s just, the situation is dire! The Division is in-”

“I forgive you,”
the Vice-Captain interrupted nonchalantly, his gaze rising to meet that of his Zanpakutō, which rested upon an ornate stand. It was the only object that remained in its original position. “You’re just a little bug, and bugs are born to be pests; can’t blame you for it.”

Akinawa knew better; he was just going to have to endure this for however long it took for the Vice-Captain to move on.

As Kaisei looked upon his Zanpakutō, the image of his spirit’s apathetic expression filled his mind, telling him “fuck off” without having to say a word. Tongue licking at his rear upper teeth, Kaisei chuckled as he responded silently, the words spoken within his mind, meant only for one.

‘Cold bitch.’

Both his raised hand and his Zanpakutō glowed an eerie purple; the weapon levitated and rushed to land within his titanic grip. To the uninitiated, astonishing; to a select few, a simple spell. When the Third Seat finally felt the pressure upon his skull subside, he would witness his Vice-Captain already turned and his Zanpakutō resting within his sash.

“I’m very sorry, Vice-Captain Tsunayashiro!” Akinawa declared as he rose to his feet and bowed. “It won’t ever happen again! As for Shin’eki, he’s-bzz bzz bzzbzz bzz bzzbzz bzzbzz bzz bzz.”

Walking out of his quarters, the Vice-Captain of the Fifth drowned out the boring world as he focused his mind on his target: his Fourth Seat, who he had already located spiritually, alongside the Vice-Captain of the Fourth.

It seemed Rusty’d found himself some intel on the matter, and in a pickle too boot. If there really were Hollow’s intermingling with Shinigami, although interesting, then that just wouldn’t do. There was a place for Hollows – for Kaisei, an exciting one at that – and a place for Shinigami, ever intertwined yet separate in existence. Putting them together made things too messy, too unnatural, too impure.

Any abomination that was both bundled into one, well, Kaisei would just have to make disappear.

Shin’eki Uemura, the young Fourth Seat from the Fifth, was on the move toward his own Division in hopes of finally reaching a semblance of safety. And who could blame him? His day had started real bad, turned into an ugly and bloody mess, and even found a way to get worse. It seemed as though there was yet more to come.

As the young Shinigami Flash Stepped through the chaos that was the space between himself and his Division – filled with shouts, cries of pain, and clashing blades – what indeed was running through his mind? Only he would know, but hopefully his senses were sharp and not distracted.

The sudden arrival of an antagonistic Reiatsu would force itself upon Shin’eki, rife with killing intent; the signature spoke of someone of High Spiritual Power, Spirit Class 6. Soon after, the warping sound of disturbed wind would reverberate just shy of Shin’eki’s face, the sound accompanied by the glint of soul steel. A blade sought to sever across his head horizontally, from tip of nose to back of head.

If Shin’eki were to find a means to defend against this attack, he’d find a Shinigami from the Eleventh standing behind him.

“Where do you think you’re going, mut?”

Hastily approaching his destination, while Shin’eki’s mind ran, he couldn’t ignore what he sense. The captains of seemingly every division duked it out amongst the entirety of the Seireitei, each reiatsu signature ramping up and dying down, truly signaling the ebb and flow of war-time combat, if one could even call this campaign a war. Perhaps to historians it could be deemed a civil-war of sorts, however only time would tell. Justice would only beseech the victors in the end, any how, and while the young Shinigami found the state of Rukon repulsive by nature, his position in this skirmish would remain undecided, yes he disliked the way things were ran, and yes he felt the Nobility should be held accountable for their actions, just as he believed everyone should; However, going about such an upheaval through the mindset of might-makes-right, the very same belief that put the nobles where they are now, would definitely not be justice, at least in his eyes, nor the eyes of true peace-keepers.

As the fourth seat of the fifth division reached the border of 4th and 5th’s divisions jurisdictions respectively, he would sense the Captain Commander’s reiatsu waning, as he suspected Captain Shihaimono now gained the upper hand. With the captain of Fourth Division’s Reiatsu nearly being snuffed out, it appeared Captain Tsunayashiro had claimed victory over her. The red-haired boy would wonder how this would affect Hachiko-dono, if at all. Though perhaps now was the time for such arbitrary thoughts. Lastly, both the reiatsu signatures of Hatsumei-taichou, as well as Captain Kusumoto’s have both seemingly vanished from thin air, as the Captain of Squad 11, Kenpachi Murakami is sensed moving toward Sogyoku Hill, before he too, seemingly is snuffed out from existence… just what is going on h-?

Suddenly a glimpse of killing intent is thrust upon Shin’eki as his senses go into overdrive. His body still on high alert, adrenaline still pumping through his veins from the list of events that had only preceded this very day. The day Seireitei went mad. Seems as though the tension in the air had finally given way to the weight of each individual division’s goals and perhaps diabolical plans. Reacting at a split second, Shin’eki would feel the man approach him from behind. Before he was able to perform his intended strike to half-assly behead Shin’eki by only severing the upper half from his body, a blow of which he had jokingly dubbed “An Executioner’s Haircut”, Shin’eki would, having used his potent Reikaku as well as his enhanced reflexes, would find himself tucking his head as his body ducked, while performing a spinning motion, his hips and torso rotating as his left hand clutched the saya of his zanpakuto. As if the world went into slow motion, the following actions would play out before Shin’eki’s eyes.

As the man drew his zanpakuto to deliver the finishing horizontal blow, Shin’eki’s torso would have followed the boy’s arm in motion, as the opposing shinigami extended his blade outward, his arm reaching its peak in the crescent of its cutting motion.

“Wh-ere d-o y-ou t-hink y-ou’re g-oing, m-ut?”

Shin’eki would use this opening to use his sword’s blunt end of it’s saya to deliver a punishing perpendicular jab into the neck and jaw of the shinigami behind him, the force behind such blow would be capable of not only knocking the man out all together, but also capable of breaking his jaw, and enough potential force to dislocate the man’s neck before sending him spiraling away in a brutal display of herculean strength. As Shin’eki completed his revolution to now face the direction of the attacker, his legs shifting as well, like that of a kick to potentially block any incoming parry the man may have the ability to reprimand, Shin'eki's gaze remained ever vigilant in case the man before him posed more of a threat than his 6th Grade Spirit let on.

While Shin’eki attempted to deliver this devastating, and ultimately neutralizing blow to the Shinigami who sought to kill him, the 4th Seated Officer would remain keeping tabs on the witness of whom he clutched tightly upon with the grasp of his right hand, not once letting him get in harms way throughout the exchange of blows. Nothing this side of the power scale was going to prevent Shin’eki from achieving his goal of delivering this man to his barracks, and should they dare try, they would find any effort expended futile, as Shin’eki’s reiryoku flared, it’s emission dampened not only by the limiter that was his Zanpakuto’s synthetically crafted saya, but also by the powder that Chihimei had graciously administered upon his person. Right now, Shin’eki’s very presence would be camouflaged, much like that of a denizen of Rukon. Right now, this would be his opportunity to not only show the likes of traitors what he was capable of, but also go under the radar of anyone with particularly sensitive Reikaku.

Shin’eki was a Shinigami of ample combative experience, having honed his skills through many battles within Hueco Mundo. His physical and spiritual senses sharpened, heightened even more so with the boy’s recent, and seemingly ever present, circumstances.

Such that when the blade came for his head, Shin’eki tucked under the sharp edge with time-stopping haste, turning to face his would-be executioner, and in the same motion, attempted to strike the newcomer with the blunt of his saya.

His strike would not land true, the sound of synthetic on soul steel sounding as the hostile Shinigami deflected seamlessly, matching Shin’eki’s strength.

“Man, you’re gonna be a pain in the ass, huh?” he commented, swinging his blade out to his side. “Why don’t you die already, Fifth scum! Slither, Shisenhebi (視線蛇, serpent of the gaze)!”

Shin’eki’s Reiatsu's output was matched by the intruder, whose blade suddenly melted, forming into a giant serpent. A living entity Zanpakuto! It hissed at Shin’eki, its serpent-like menacing, and ominously glowing eyes glaring down at him as it slowly made its way to him.

Behind it, one would witness the intruding Shinigami raising his right hand, palm out and facing in Shin’eki’s direction. His Reiatsu flared, and from his palm a stream of lightning was born…

LISTEN AS YOU READ

As the sound of his saya clashed with the man’s zanpakuto, Shin’eki’s gaze would sour. His eyes pierced the man before him. His body language became loose, as he slowly eased his grip on the man whom he had been carrying most of the day.

“Man, you’re gonna be a pain in the ass, huh?”

(Man you’ve sure been a handful huh? Seems like my time for having to hold back is drawing to an end… please consider this one the final act of kindness and mercy I can offer you.)
“Why don’t you die already, Fifth scum! Slither, Shisenhebi (視線蛇, serpent of the gaze)!”

Feeling the reiatsu of the opponent flare as he released his sword, Shin’eki would shift his stance, anticipating the snake's attack, and preparing to dodge the oncoming Lightning Kido. Once the snake slithered towards him, Shin’eki would use his honed reflexes to perform a swift barrage of shunpo, evading the attack. The area where his body was prior now took the brunt of the man’s lightning Kido, leaving only a blackened silhouette of a figure collapsing to the ground.

As the opponent was caught up in discovering the charred body of the Rukongai citizen, Shin'eki would take advantage of the distraction and utter but a single word.

"Ban-kai."

As his zanpakuto was drawn outward, Shin’eki's blade would seemingly dissolve upon the swing of his blade, creating a cloud of brown and red dust that extended out 15 meters in every direction with Shin’eki as the epicenter.. The reishi in the area would begin to corrode and collapse into a sharp and heavy dust. The opponent and his snake would be blinded by the dust and unable to see Shin'eki's hand held up to his face, due to the density of the "sandstorm" they now faced. The abrasiveness of the dust wouldn't seem like much, and then suddenly everything would go from brown to solid crimson, then black, as everything within this cloud of debris and destruction was rendered into a bloodied powder as both the shinigami and his zanpakuto had been finely grated down into mincemeat before rusting over in a dramatic display of controlled devastation, save for Shin’eki figure whom appeared as a silhouette within the cloud upon viewing from the outside in..

While remaining motionless for a moment, Shin’eki would break stride as he brought the bladeless hilt of his zanpakuto his chest, It’s blade reforging itself outwardly before him, as the clouds were drawn back into it, almost as if a silent vacuum were at work, as the corroded blade now glistened in areas where the blade wasn’t tarnished. Turning half circle, the fourth seat of the 5th Division would sheath his blade into his fabricated saya. The area around him, the once white walls and familiar grey-blue cobbled tile, now gone, the curvature of the boy’s bankai left scars on the world around him, appearing as if a sphere had been taken from the area, as bite-like marks severed the once connected walls of buildings and the trailing walls of the roads before him. Climbing up from the crater-like deformation in the area, leftover bits of oxidized rubble zig-zaged along the perimeter, before giving way under the weight of Shin’eki stepping upon them as he looked back onto the wake of devastation he created, even if it were on a small scale compared to that of other bankai. The scar upon the area in the border between 5th Division and Fourth Division Territory would be a reminder to the shinigami fledgling that with great power came the need for an even greater sense of self control.

As Shin’eki stood one foot on the edge of the man-made wasteland, a gentle breeze would catch the man’s long flowing red hair as he sensed out the reiatsu not only of the fighting parties, but also those of Otokoji-sensei, Hachiko-dono, and Kaisei-senpai’s. Off into the distance a large pitch-black construct could be seen erected as it reached the heavens above Sokyoku Hill. There, Shin’eki could feel the insane spiritual pressure of Captain Shihaimono, as well as two others of whom he had no previous affiliations with, and while one seemingly rivaled that of the Captain, it now seemed to dim, as what Shin could only mentally deduce were black spines that appeared from the previously flat surface of the kido construct.

”Hmm, I wonder if I could try pulling off one of those one day?”

Taking a final step out of the cavity, and albeit perhaps taking a step out of the dire situation he had found himself in since this day began, he would quickly find himself snapping back to reality as a tear found itself etching down his left cheek.

”I hope you’ll forgive me, stranger, for not only prolonging your death, but as well as being unable to uphold my own end of the bargain and my own selfish ideals to protect you against yourself. No matter how strong I may become, I’ll forever hold this weakness, of not only being helpless in the face of opposition, but also helpless in the act of defending a single civilian.”

Taking a moment to bow, as well as pray for the innocent man’s safe passage into the next cycle, Shin’eki would begin to walk toward 5th Barracks, his previous demeanor shattered, his mission failed, his pride swallowed in hopes of finally reconveining with Lt.Tsunayashiro prepared to take the beating of a lifetime.

For a Shinigami of his stature, Shin’eki Uemura possessed power that superseded his rank. The fabled Bankai was a facet of the Zanpakuto that few within the Seireitei could boast to have accomplished. If one were to ask the average Shinigami, they’d say less than one-hundred. And yet, here was a Fourth Seated officer who held an immense and rare power at the tips of his fingertips; no one, not even Shin’eki’s opponent, would be convinced of what was about to come his way.

Shin’eki’s voice rang across the battlefield, speaking that infamous word in two dramatic parts, and from it was born an enormous cloud of brown and red. Both he and his serpent Zanpakuto were caught off-guard, he grunting and she hissing with displeasure. But their disturbed sounds were short-lived, replaced with growls of pain, them too coming and going as quickly, as their bodies were reduced to bloodied dust.

For the first time in his terrible day, the Fourth Seat had found triumph amidst a paved trail of defeat.
