Willingly, Kasu chose death by her own hands. As honorable and noble as it may have been, it almost seemed as though she forgot that she is merely being tested. Has the gravity of these parameters finally gotten to her? Seating her mind to believe this false world to be a reality? Surely she is not this delusional, this emotional on the battlefield. Kasu had made the mistake of grabbing hold of the Captain’s arm. Perhaps she is unaware of the strength and masterful skill set of Hakuda that Captain Aijo likely possesses.

She is now but a victim, having her world turned upside down in just moments. A look of shock drenched her face, unable to recognize her position for a second. Captain Aijo has become a mountain, unbothered by her sudden approach, unhindered as he continues his incantation.

Move and become the wind, stop and become the calm. Bakudo #73. Tozanshō” (倒山晶, Inverse Mountain Crystal; Viz "Falling Mountain Crystal”)

Bakudo becomes his ally as descends to the ground with great force and speed delivered by the raw strength of Captain Aijo. This was no Zanpakuto ability, no Kido, this was purely strength and Hakuda, Kasu could deduce that even as her body slams into the ground, however, no crater would be formed. Instinctively, she curled her arms close to her and right before her body would make impact, her hands lashed out violently, her painted palms hitting the ground in which her Bankai remained active. The ground turned to mush in that instant and her body simply sunk into the earth.

In this moment, the Captain’s Hado goes unimpeded, and with instantaneous speed it roars from the point of the pyramid and strikes the ground with impressive force.

BOOOOOM!!!

Winds carry on fiercely, flipping cars and toppling loose structures, and in its fiery wake is nothing but a Crater, but no Kasu Shinka. Moments later She emerged several meters to the left of the Captain, her clothing slightly torn and noticeable burn marks upon her skin. She had escaped by the skin of her teeth. Her speed allowed her to gain her current position in the air.

I’ve underestimated you, Captain Aijo…

Her eyes drift momentarily to the city below her. She can only recognize the destruction, the dead civilians that could have been saved if she had prioritized them over the enemy. Has she finally understood the lesson here? She simply brought her gaze back to the Captain. What would be her next course of action and what would be his?

Otokogi sighs, his Zanpakuto returning to its sealed state allowing him to sheath it. He looks around the city, destruction reigned supreme within it. His eyes glanced over towards Kasu, the disappointment was very apparent within his gaze.

”Learn well from this, Shinka-san, sometimes the goal of the enemy is not to kill you but rather kill those around you. Or even in some instances, destroy the infrastructure. Pay attention to these things because if you continue fighting as you are they will reach their goals with ease.”

He returns to the ground and the simulation disables itself. There is obvious damage to the walls and floor of the Simulation Room but nothing the Twelfth Division couldn’t repair. He looks up towards her one last time.

”I shouldn’t have to teach a lesson like this to someone who also lived through the Unhallowed Wars.”

The old man turns on his heel and exits the Simulation room.

"Hm. So this is the simulation room?"

The Second Division's Captain entered this space for the first time since becoming Captain. He was told how the simulation works and what purpose it serves since he had always been more of a traditionalist in terms of combat. He wanted to give this new way at least a try, as it had been an order from the Prior Captain Commander. The members of the Twelfth Division oversee the functionality of the simulation.

"Let's proceed."

"Yes Captain Senko."

Naruki-City.webp

The members of the 12th Division began to set up the room with their fingers, pressing multiple buttons across the board to have everything set up. As their fingers did the work, the room shifted into a more familiar environment that would be the workspace and duty of the person looking to take the responsibilities of the tenth Division. Buildings of businesses, a few skyscrapers, and houses were all below the Second Division Captain's feet. The city was alive with every window light on and street lights to allow those walking to see. The horns honking echo through the street of this fake Naruki City. Though it is fake, everything feels natural, even the breeze of the wind. Kagi Senko stood above the entire city on a translucent plate, staring down, impressed with this technology. The vast night sky of the abyss was quite comforting and peaceful, the serenity and quietness of the nearby trees swaying in the gentle breeze and the sound of crickets in the night.

Now that the stage was set, Kagi reflected briefly on the individual he would test against. Arms weren't visible then, hidden inside his colorless cloak, wearing the signature brown straw hat. Jushiro Izanagi. Kagi only knows a little about his skills, but he did learn of him when he joined the Second Division as its Captain. He was also a former member of his Division. They cross paths at times when they could have interesting conversations, only to learn they share similar views and ideas. They are identical in terms of character, but they have yet to put their skills to the test against each other. Jushiro may get that satisfaction during his exam. And they weren't that far from each other by age, so it shall be interesting how Jushiro prepared to become Captain against Kagi for this test.

"Come, Jushiro. Show me you have what it takes, Masked One."

Kagi inner thoughts as he awaits in the dark sky of the night. Would Jushiro jump straight into battle or would he do his usual small talk?

The day had finally arrived for the Shinigami known as the masked one. It felt like Jushiro had spent aeons building up to this moment. He was a little taken aback by the occasion. Many would of course find some excitement, after all, these are indeed exciting times. There are those moments when one could not help but feel that tingling sensation in the pit of their stomach. So much so that they become giddy, drunk off the euphoria. As far as Jushiro Izanagi was concerned, he wasn’t feeling any of that. One could argue that he was actually dreading what was about to happen. The Captaincy test carried a deep meaning for any Shinigami allowed to undergo said examination. Jushiro took pride in being a Shinigami, and even though he’d managed to make it to this point. He could only view it as a possible stepping stone to achieve something even greater. There he was about to reach his destination, while timing his steps so that they mask the sound of the foul stench escaping his rear end. It was in perfect rhythm “I knew I shouldn’t have eaten those boiled eggs. Let’s hope no one comes behind me”. Jushiro thought while carefully checking his surroundings as to not arouse suspicion. “I’m not even nervous but here goes nothing”. He thought once more before finally proceeding to where he needed to be.

He should now be well out of range of the smelly aroma that followed him not so long ago. Upon reaching his destination, the Junibantai squad members were at hand to escort him inside. As he casually strolled in, a fox-like grin adorned the mask that he’s known for wearing. His head tilted to the left as they addressed the white haired Shinigami. “Jushiro Izanagi….” their words trailed off, unsure of what title to bestow upon him. There was an awkward silence for a few moments, before finally other words were uttered. “Captain Senko is already here and awaits you in the simulation. Good luck! Sir”. The masked one chuckled before making his entry into the simulation. Jushiro had everything that he needed with him. He was ready to demonstrate his capabilities as a Shinigami. From his vantage point he could already see the person in charge of administering the test. It was him, someone that he knew of and yet did not know nearly enough about his compatriot. A Senkaimon opened up twenty metres in front of Kagi, putting both on the same level footing in the skies. His gaze never left Kagi, Izanagi was relaxed and yet ready to strike should it be required. He was impressed by the simulation. A perfect replica of Naruki City, the very place that the tenth division is in charge of. He had so many questions about it. Just how far did the space stretch to? Will he unintentionally run into a concealed wall? Was the space more or less infinite and they could let loose?

He seemed almost too casual and carefree in his approach as he edged closer to the second division Captain. He stopped within twelve and a half feet of Kagi and looked on in silence for a moment. “Good evening, Senko Taicho”. He simply stated with sincerity, careful not to cause insult. At least not yet anyway. It was almost as if he didn’t care to attack, and yet he was quite simply ready to defend. “I heard these tests can be quite intriguing. One may never know what will transpire. I was hoping you’d put this ignorant fool out of his misery. Honestly speaking, I don't like jumping into situations without doing my due diligence. Your insight would be most helpful”. This was meant to be a simulation, and Jushiro wanted as much information as possible before they could begin. Izanagi maintained his distance, fully aware that Kagi could strike at any moment. The masked one was of course anticipating this, and on the other hand was hoping Kagi would oblige him.

The moment Jushiro arrives inside a city simulation, he will watch over it, whether as a captain or a division member. It would be better suited for him to get used to it for his benefit to face what's to come. Kagi's eyes never left Jushiro, watching the body language he presented and how laid-back he had become. Yet, Jushiro was secretly watching Kagi's movements as well, where Jushiro spoke so carefree but also held some mannerisms. Was he nervous?

"Evening."

Kagi paused before speaking anything else, just for a brief moment. But then he would have offered some more words after listening to the one looking to achieve the rank of Captain. He was looking to gain information on how everything works. Instead, he wants to gain insight into what lies ahead for him. A slight curl formed at the corner of Kagi's mouth as the Masked One had no idea what was about to occur; the fact that Jushiro would get some words to help him would been a mistake. The point of testing is to form a variety of factors that are to come into play and reveal what the testee can provide. It would be up to the proctors like Captain Senko to push that individual to their limits.

"I can show you better than I can tell you, Jushiro Izanagi. I'll be sure to see if you have what it takes to be among the Captains of the Gotei 13. So, you will not get any assistance or aid from my words. Prove to me that you can be a Captain. If you are not up for the task, I shall fail you here and now."

Kagi stated to Jushiro as the smirk faded and now a straight face. The mask shinigami would been incapable of looking him in the eyes at this time due to the straw hat. He would only see the motion of his arms from underneath his porcelain cloak, where the zanpakuto with no guard was removed from the dark scabbard. The sound of metal echoed throughout the night skies of Naruki city; it was then the moment that sound was made. An explosion from one of the only few skyscrapers in town took place. The 15th floor of the building was on fire, and people were screaming.

"Help! Help!"

They shouted and screamed like feeble creatures, with a trail of smoke exiting the hole of this building. However, there was also a green light forming and circling towards one being from a distance from where Kagi and Jushiro would be where some weird black-like ooze substance unknown to the two of them would have fled from some oddly shaped item and fled towards every single being that would now be former humans. Suddenly, every human around would have felt some tingling sensation, headaches of sorts where they couldn't walk any longer. Suddenly, cars would have crashed one after the other, crashing into light poles, street lights, or other buildings or even into each other. The passersby, one by one, would have fallen seemingly unconscious where they stood, and each would have jerked violently, having uncontrollable movements and thrashing. As this happened, one after the other, their innocent shriek for help became more demonic. Their wails became howling like the creatures they were turning into. Some dark ebony goop slowly overtook the very frame of their bodies, stretching all over them. Even the faces were transitioning into mask-like structures. Their eyes were yellow; their transformation created holes in their chest. The roar towards the night sky, as there seemed to be a large number of people suffering, But there were those who did not suffer like that rest and became targets, running away from the scene as fast as they could.

Unfortunately, they were nothing more than prey to be eaten and hunted by these abominations. Amid this event, a green light begins to generate from the tip of the finger pointing from above. Upon releasing its stored-up energy, it broke the sound barrier, creating a small dust cloud around the individual's body where the wide arc blast is enough to cover the entire frame of Jushiro's body upon reaching him. Meanwhile, Kagi was no longer in the position Jushiro last saw him in. And if Jushiro happens to get a look at the individual who tried to take him out with a Cero (虚閃 (セロ), Sero); Spanish for "Zero," Japanese for "Hollow Flash") that would appear within his view a dark black hair that extends down to his waist. His face is accented with the remnants of his hollow mask that run underneath his chin and neck, and more significant remnants can be found on the left side of his head. The individual wears black socks inside exceptional Obi that were explicitly made for them with white pants resembling the Shinigami's shihakushō. He wears a black belt around his waist with a plain white shirt that exposes a small amount of midriff and the hollow hole in the center of his chest. This shirt has a black edging around it, giving it a more three-dimensional look, and he also wears a white cloak with black edging and lining. This coat has long sleeves that extend down the length of his arm, stopping at his wrists. It often resembles a vest because of the black-lined creases where the sleeve meets the cloak.

Once he had taken in the visage of the person who attacked him, the question would be, what would be his move now? Who takes priority? Would he still think Kagi is a threat?

The Captain’s response wasn’t exactly what Izanagi was looking for. He was disappointed and at the same time, he understood Captain Senko’s stance. Be that as it may, Izanagi’s gaze did not leave the man standing before him. This is why he was able to mirror the Captain’s actions by unsheathing his own Zanpakuto at the same time. The blade was as dark as midnight, boasting a sharp silver edge. If one were to look carefully, they would notice the six silver rings on both sides of the blade. Each ring carefully spaced out among themselves. The cross guard was dark green, and its hilt was charcoal in colour with a silver butt. Izanagi was at the ready, his mind already thinking of different scenarios. The explosion seemed like the perfect Segway into what was about to transpire. The Masked One held his nerve as per usual. Not one to be easily rattled, he was far too rational to get into a state of panic.

The cries for help did not concern the white haired Shinigami. It was not his place to meddle in the affairs of humans. And until they were able to interact with his world, then whether or not they die wasn’t his problem. The transition from screams, death, and corruption of souls seemed all too smooth. “Bravo” the man thought, complementing the smoothness of it all. Despite all the happenings, Jushiro’s ability to sense things down to the finer detail was already at work. Hardly anything could escape him, these abilities were honed for quite a long time. It aided him in pinpointing the number of transformed souls. The vile creatures that Shinigami are in charge of disposing of. He counted seven of them, and each was now ready to have themselves a feast. “Hollows trying to devour human souls. Different day, same shit I suppose”.

Very much aware of the fact that the Captain removed himself from immediate danger. Leaving Izanagi to deal with the assailant attempting to blast him from the night skies. The Masked One was made aware of ‘Its’ presence the moment it arrived on the scene. Jushiro was far too cautious not to take heed of such things. Jushiro found himself in a predicament. He could let the hollows feast on the souls of the recently deceased. By allowing it, he determined that it wouldn’t upset the balance that Shinigami try their best to protect. However, there is nothing to say that there won’t be an endless supply of hollows and souls and on and on it goes. “Tch, this is annoying”. He said under his breath after performing a swift and well timed flash step. The purpose of which was to dodge green cero blast. It was fast, but unfortunately Izanagi was no slouch either. An afterimage was left behind in his place, and that is what was struck by the Cero.

Meanwhile Izanagi headed towards the hollows, gathered not too far apart from each other. And why would they? So many souls to feast on in one location. There wasn’t any need for them to spread out just yet. At least that’s what he was hoping. With all of this said, not once did he allow himself to lose sight of his possible opponents. Physically seeing his opponents wasn’t necessary at all. He’s a master at sensing and keeping tabs on persons of interest. He did not know what the Captain’s motives were. Jushiro had basic hollows, advanced hollows and possibly a Captain to deal with. After his initial flash step, the white haired Shinigami came back into view. Still above ground, making use of his ability to air walk. He created some distance between himself and the assailant. Izanagi wanted to remove the pesky recently turned creatures and then focus on a potentially tougher opponent. By not allowing the hollows to roam free, he could save more innocent souls. Here he was now ready to do just that.

He wanted to ensure that he was in range, meanwhile keeping tabs on the more dangerous opponent. Having locked onto his targets, each hollow would come to realise that their bodies are paralyzed. “Bakudo 9, Geki”. A red glow permeated from Izanagi, reaching out to all seven as intended. Once ensnared, the feasting would be over. This was followed by Izanagi bringing his right middle finger and thumb together. The result of which were several snapping sounds while holding his Zanpakuto in his left hand. His blade was held in a reverse grip, allowing him to form a fist with said hand. Meanwhile bringing his right palm to meet his left fist. This brought about seven transparent cuboid barriers around the heads of the hollows. “I call this a standing ovation”. He had to improvise at times, but it hardly an issue for someone with his capabilities. Paralyzed and at his mercy, Izanagi wasted no time in severing their heads. His intention was to deal with the hollows and then proceed to dealing with the one who tried to shoot him out the skies. This was all assuming that everything went to plan. Regardless, Izanagi was ready to deal with the different threats heading his way.

Kagi preferred something other than this method of using a simulation for battle. He always preferred the traditional way, fighting until one could not continue. Although this new way of doing things has its methods, it has been highly suggested that the proctor use this room and what it offers.

Things started when Jushiro ignored the cries of humans and those in distress, left to survive an explosion from the building. Humans are being corrupted and turned into creatures. He began attacking living souls once fully turned, and the Masked shinigami made it his purpose to do nothing right then. And where did the Captain disappear too at this time? His steps were silent; his presence could not be felt anywhere around the area, as if his existence had always been a figment of Jushiro's imagination. The straw-hatted warrior traversed silently through the air; no sound was made. The specially made equipment the Captain wears allows him to remain concealed spiritually; not even a sensing master could detect his presence unless Kagi has done something to reveal his location. He has yet to do such a thing; every moment has an opening.

The green cero was fired from down below upon street level as it traveled towards its target and completely shrouded the entire frame of the Masked One. Or at least this masked shinigami fabricated something that was not real. The white-haired shinigami appear confident, maybe even too optimistic with how they have been able to use one move to escape one move. Things were only getting started. Because the moment he escaped from specific harm, the only sound that would have been at this time was a rugged static boom. The green-eyed creature also timed his movements and could sense movements skillfully. When the red glow was imbued and ready to be used, the shinigami would only feel a forceful grip of his hair from behind, held up to keep him suspended above his invisible plate about two feet. The individual who reaches for his long white hair also aims to drive their cold steel into the back of the Masked One and out through the abdomen. This action would interfere with what the masked shinigami had planned. Not that it initially posed a threat, but they refused to allow him to think it would be so easy.

In the meantime, the creatures have continued their chance to gorge on humans, and the number continues to drop. However, those affected by the creatures would be stood over by one Captain. The exam proctor would hold the same item, the hollow humanoid being had earlier before fighting the masked one. The oddly shaped jet-black item held in his hand was shaped like a hexahedron-like cube, and swiftly, the top slide opened, which permeated a bright green glow enough to blind any and everything nearby, even the likes of Jushiro, who was fighting above. Multiple black substances once again appeared from the opening of the cube as it squirmed like a worm until it was entirely outside the cube. It landed on the victims beneath him and entered their lifeless bodies; once again, they reacted the same way as the rest. Jerking uncontrollably until the change took place entirely and once the change has reached the final transition. They also had been converted into the exact likeness of the rest. They began to run out to attack the humans in the burning building and their cars, eventually reaching every corner of Naruki.

"Being a protector of Naruki City, means taking care of the people. Can you Jushiro Izanagi even protect yourself?

There were so many moving parts to consider, a variety of factors that may or may not come into play. Being the prude that he is, Izanagi never once let his focus slip from what was going on. He paid special attention to his would-be assailant and the creatures causing chaos. As such, he wasn’t surprised that his opponent made a move to intercept him after firing off the Cero. The dummy version of The Masked One was struck and luckily it was only his diversion which felt the force of the Cero. The idea was to proceed and deal with the pesky Hollows down below. However, he first needed to deal with his current opponent. When I move you move, just like that. “Oh?” the man thought as his opponent so brazenly attempted to invade his space.

Already armed with his Zanpakuto in hand, Jushiro had to make sure that such an audacious move was never attempted again. Coinciding with the attempted grab of his long and flowing mane. Was an explosion of intense heat, its ferocious temperatures comparable to the Sun’s surface. Jushiro remained at the epicentre of it all, as said heat pushed away from him in all directions. The crimson hue’s only aim was to reduce his opponent to ash and without mercy. The force from the explosion would make it so that anyone or anything not of himself would be sent flying without any regard for their safety. All the while charred and worse for wear.

Jushiro wasn’t exactly finished, his body and blade was already at the ready looking to intercept another attack. His agility, speed, precision and sheer focus meant that he wasn’t about to let himself be ambushed so easily. The crimson explosion fizzled out at the sixty five metre mark. His Zanpakuto is held in his left hand, meanwhile his right hand rose as if to protect his eyes from the bright green flash from below. Thankfully his mask helped with dimming the display. As such he wasn’t left disorientated and the effects the light had on the eyes lasted only mere moments. “Ensho” the man uttered almost inaudibly, revealing the name of the technique that was used. And in that revelation did he also brandish his Shikai. “Unleash your Fury, Kisshouten”. It was almost backwards in the way he went about things. And now speaking the release phrase for his Shikai was merely paying respect to his Zanpakuto. He had now reached that level where uttering the release phrase wasn't necessary.

The blade itself is 32.2" inches long, some would say its the perfect length for someone over six feet tall. The right side of the blade is white, and carefully decorated on it are blue waves rushing forth from the hilt to the tip of the blade. The shape of the cross guard remains the same as its sealed state. It's in the shape of a hexagram, this time though it is seemingly made up of blue and white fish scales. The hilt is also very similar to the cross guard. As it also has blue and white scales running along it on the right hand side of the blade. The weapon also has a red tassel attached at the bottom of the hilt.

The left side of the blade is of a fiery red, appearing as though its been superheated. There are black flames running along the left side of the blade. These flames are carefully blended into the red of the blade. The left side of the cross guard looks to be charred. The charred appearance meets the blue and white fish scales from the right side perfectly in the middle. The left side of the hilt is red in colour, with orange and black flames running along it.

In the immediate aftermath, it would appear that even more creatures were being created. It was safe to say that Jushiro was not amused by the current happenings. As much as he was focused on what was going on below, he was also focused on his opponent too or possible new opponents. If his attack failed to protect him from the hair grab and blade piercing through his back and abdomen, then he’d need to adjust and react accordingly. This is something he was prepared to do. In the meantime, Jushiro’s Reiatsu flared as he became a beacon. A rather tasty meal in comparison to the humans down below. It was an attempt to draw the nasty creatures closer to him. In the meantime, the heat radiating from him remained as potent as ever. Unfortunately, the wider environment will begin to feel its effects. At the current rate, Jushiro figured more or less that not every soul could be saved. Facing this reality, he made the decision to save the ones that he could. And at the same time ensure that he was also protecting himself from harm. Assuming that his path was clear, he immediately headed towards the burning building. His speed took him quite the distance in a single step as he drew closer. And never once did he let his guard down. "This is some bullshit".

This masked shinigami seems to have eyes everywhere, seemingly predicting and capable of reacting to everything around himself, even responding to actions while simultaneously in the middle of performing his attempt at kido. Could he see the future? Has he always been that efficient in redirecting his focus from one target that's in front of him to another target from behind? This information was rather interesting, but whatever it is that made the masked shinigami skillful enough to do so. The question is, how much focus does he have?

The pure white hand had been within reach of Jushiro's long, flowing hair as the hand had gotten closer by the second, inch by inch. A sudden burst of heat exploded around the shinigami, Jushiro. The eyes of this manifested hollow widen at this sudden reiatsu that revealed itself before him. It started with the hand, and then their entire body had been ignited, and this Arrancar turned to ash. The creature's very burned ashes were also violently blown away. It couldn't contest with the energy output that Jushiro's release had displayed. The beast did not last long, but the test was far from over. Yet, it was created for a purpose, and its temporary existence served just that.

The emerald-colored light had slightly blinded the masked shinigami. Still, it wasn't meant to blind Jushiro purposely but rather conceived more hollow-like creatures to continue their rampage on the poor city of Naruki. The defender of Naruki has been unable to dispatch them due to dealing with interference. A small dust cloud formed a small circle from the asphalt where the Captain stood, but the physical frame was no longer present, just the small dust cloud that slowly faded away in time. However, in the time it took to fade away, the Captain of Second had already appeared in his next destination long ago. There was no sound or way to sense his presence, yet his destination had been in multiple places collectively. Each destination Kagi set in was still in motion towards the Masked One's current location, closing in from all six different angles. It wouldn't have taken long because the distance wouldn't have been that far apart. Kagi's first appearance was closer to Jushiro. His steps were silent; He was nothing but a specter, a shadow, moving in a way that eyes who would have seen his movements for the first time would have difficulty following at first. They would have to adjust, but it could be too late when they attempt to adapt to his speed. Those unfamiliar with his movements would only notice multiple thin streams of orange-colored light headed toward them, each aiming at part of Jushiro's body. This motion was Shikkusupasusutoraiku (シックスパスストライク; Six Path Strike) in purest form.

Amid Jushiro turning himself into a lighted beacon, it did draw the attention of the abomination of hollows, but only for their attention to focus on the building he wanted to save, where humans were trapped in the burning flames that continued to engulf floor by floor. In which their intentions were no longer to use them for their purpose. The monstrosities nearby would have perched around the building; their gaping mouths were wide open while the crimson light manifested in the epic center of their wide jaw. Each one fired a beam of light at a single point while it pierced through the feeble structure. It could no longer stand, yet that focal point exploded due to the multiple ceros colliding with one another, which caused the mid-section of the building to explode. Debris was flying, but the top layer of the skyscraper slowly toppled over to the weaker side as gravity leaned over the two combatants, where the trapped humans fell through the hole created from the beginning.
