Walking into the Simulation Room, Kenpachi Aijō, a title he has yet to get used to, looks around, slightly confused about how to proceed. He knew of the old ways Captain’s Tests were performed but in this new age it seemed like the use of technology became necessary to test the aptitude of captain candidates. A voice over an intercom relays to him the details of what he must do in order to simulate an environment for the test. He grunts and scratches his head momentarily, shifting his feet as if turning to face the source of the voice, who is just a member of Twelfth Division who helps oversee the rooms functionality.

”The room as is should do fine, yes?”

”Sadly no, the Commander wants you to use a simulated environment for this test. Those are his orders.”

”Bah, fine, fine, I’ll do it. Hmm now lets see…”

The room begins to hum as the floor gives way at Oto’s feet creating a sheer drop to a busy street, filled with both foot and car traffic, below. Surrounding Oto are towering skyscrapers and further above them is a clear blue sunny sky. It is a generic cityscape where the tall buildings can be used as cover to hide or for protection against attacks. Oto opens his eyes and nods approvingly at what was created before descending to the ground below, creating Reishi platforms to stand above the car traffic. He rests his left arm on the hilt of his blade and glances around at the people, they seem life-like enough but also have a distinct lack of life as well. Having spent time around humans during the early days of his career he knows how people behave and how they have a spark of life in their eyes.

His thoughts then wander onto the person he will be testing, Kasu Shinka, someone who is as old as him and is the Lieutenant of First Division, a prestigious position to have, almost as coveted as a Captain position. As such he expects this to be a fairly equal battle and things will come down to how each one uses the skills they have. Furthermore Oto wonders how well the Head Lieutenant can work while under pressure with multiple objectives at play. The old man inhales slowly as he tries to put himself in a different mindset, what this mindset is will reveal itself to Kasu when she arrives.

Kasu’s Ascension?
BIODIVIDERS.png

Having spent years under the eye of the Commander, nearly a constant presence among each of their shadows, Kasu truly never saw a reason to look beyond her position. Having become the Head Lieutenant, it was almost as prestigious as becoming a Captain. So what has come to change for Kasu? A question perhaps that can be answered later, for now the woman continues on her path, to bridge herself from the confines of the 1st Division. Is it redemption? Pride? Fear? No one could truly tell what drives this woman now, her emotionless stature weighs heavily with every step she takes. Further and further, her own heart beats with little worry or anxiety. One thing that is clear, she is on her way to do battle. An elderly and respected individual awaitis her, bearing the Haori that she hopes to achieve, and also holding the moniker of Kenpachi. Having known the man for so long, this will be truly the first times their blades have clashed.

Captain Aijo descends closer to ground level, having built their battleground, it is at this moment that Kasu has entered the simulation. The astute Captain will be able to discern her location quickly, and he’d find her descending momentarily after, standing 15 feet behind his current location. Creating a reishi plate beneath her soles as well. Unlike Kenpachi Aijo, her right hand wields her Zanpakuto as she proceeds to blade her body position. Direction her own Zanpakuto towards the Captain, allowed her actions to speak for her. There was no room for greetings, no need to reminisce on the past. Out of respect for his rank and title, she would show him no mercy in this bout. She could only hope that the Kenpachi of this day and age will show her the same respect.

If these passing pedestrians could truly feel the presence of both participants, the pressure and intensity would surely stop them in theri tracks. Power oozes from Kasu, slow and steady, refined and condensed, sharp as the very blade she holds. The air around the two begins to shake, the dust that lingers across objects shakes off and falls. Kasu’s spiritual pressure gradually ascends, as her magenta colored eyes gleam with resolve and the pure intention to hold nothing back against him.

Oto takes note of Kasu’s presence behind him, her determination, and her clear no nonsense attitude in full display as she wields her blade silently. To describe it perfectly it was as if she were a coiled viper, ready to strike at the drop of a hat. She has the right mentality, that is evident, were the old man in her place he would be doing the same thing, regardless of who it was standing before him. the two of them had lived long lives within the Seireitei, seen much, done much, but with the ever turbulent times as of late there seems like there will be much more these two veteran Shinigami will have to do. Despite knowing all this Oto still sighs to himself, he was hoping to have at least a bit of a chance to speak to her before having to get serious.

”Couldn’t spare a bit of a conversation with an old man? Well, maybe after I suppose.”

His back is still turned to her, in a battle between opponents who are fairly equal, having his back turned to her is the same as facing her. Were this an actual battle on the field it would have been more wise for her to just strike the moment she arrived or maybe it was some bit of respect she showed by not doing that. The current Kenpachi would have never done this, he would have attacked her the moment he entered this simulated world just to gain an advantage. However he is not the one being tested and with another sigh the mood shifts dynamically, an eerie atmosphere rises from the old man, a menacing one that has never been seen from him before.

The Test Begins

”You think this will only be a one on one battle in this human city? That is the wrong mentality to have, Shinka-san.”

He glances over his shoulder at her, an evil look in his eye as three Garganta open up in the distant sky, Hollow pouring out into the city who begin attacking and killing the humans. The dynamic of this test has become clear all at once for Kasu. Not only will she have to contest against Otokogi but also work to save the humans of this city. Yes, the humans and the Hollow are indeed fake, however within the parameters of this test they are very much real. Oto takes his time turning around to finally face Kasu properly with a rather demented smirk on his face.

”This is a one versus many situation. Save the city, its people and defeat me! Do these things successfully and I will no longer call you Shinka-san but instead Shinka-taichou!”

A hollow bounces from car to car from behind Oto, prompting him to lean out of its way as it leaps to pounce Kasu head on. Meanwhile other Hollows enjoy their feast of human souls and destruction in the city. Chaos was already ringing out in the city as it should when Hollow are given the chance to freely roam and do as they please. Otokogi then draws his blade, raising it up into the air as it silently shifts into Shikai before swinging it downward. An oppressive force suddenly looms ominously above Kasu as the Hollow is mid leap. Now the question is raised, how will Kasu contend with this situation, having to save humans and defend the city from multiple threats at the same time? The Kenpachi will not be taking it easy on her and will steadily increase the rate of his aggression as the test persists.

Art vs Technology

Couldn’t spare a bit of a conversation with an old man? Well, maybe after I suppose.

Expected from the old Otokogi Aijo, but from the current Kenpachi, she expected his blade to speak. While the two have left their imprint in the Soul Society, the time for small talk at this time is non-existent. Kasu instead, reads the Kenpachi, minding his mannerisms, his choices, and his current speech patterns. Did he expect her to drop her guard? To further loosen up and relax in the face of possible danger? Right now, Captain Aijo is the enemy, he will be treated as such.

Remaining as he is, the Captain doesn't dare turn towards her. Kasu did not take this as disrespect, she would make sure that her blade would cut through him the same. However, it is apparent that Kasu did not realize the gravity of her situation, or rather, this test. She believed that the Kenpachi would be her one and only opponent, that each of them at their greatest potential would lay waste to this simulated world.

She is mistaken…

Evident in the shift of the atmosphere, is this menacing and grueling sensation that exudes from Captain Aijo. It is answered by the sharp execution of spiritual power and an intense glare from Kasu Shinka. By now, she would begin to figure out that the Captain had made plans to make her test one to be remembered. To make her progress through this endeavor to be as difficult and excruciating as possible. The question now arises... What did the Captain have in mind?

You think this will only be a one-on-one battle in this human city? That is the wrong mentality to have, Shinka-san.
Ye lord! Mask of flesh and bone, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Truth and temperance, upon this sinless wall of dreams, unleash but slightly the wrath of your claws,” she spoke to herself silently as he spoke…

He’d call her out, revealing his plans, a sinister outcome albeit a simulation. Watching him glance over his own shoulder, sporting a look of malice in his gaze. Such would be the least of her concerns as the malice in his gaze would be childs-play' to the three gargantas that opened up. Had his gaze remained on the Lieutenant, he’d witnessed the change in her Zanpakuto from that of a blade to the seemingly simple handheld brush. She had undergone shikai in the face of this imminent threat. Hollows pouring out into the world, and these feeble yet fake humans would be the meal, a full course. Had these creatures been real, two strong spiritual signatures would not have been ignored. Human souls being meager appetizers, their insatiable hunger would lead every last one of them straight to both Captain Aijo and Kasu.

This is a one versus many situation. Save the city, and its people, and defeat me! Do these things successfully and I will no longer call you Shinka-san but instead Shinka-taichou!

They hope to descend upon this fake world, at the will of Captain Aijo and the technological intelligence of the Research and Development team. Kasu had heard of this very room being put into the works before, but she truly never thought they would make use of such things. If they had hoped to create seasoned warriors, did they believe that this simulated world would be enough? Perhaps having a Captain is all they need to make it feel real enough. Kasu did not dawdle on her own sightings, her brush is already in motion. This simulation was but an imitation of what her Zanpakuto could do. Surely Captain Aijo is aware of her Zanpakuto’s powers by this point, standing as her proctor. What she could create is virtually limitless and these Hollows would meet their end with such power.

2c3e55232034a86eebf072c0fd40b0c9.png

The howling of wolves echoes, Kasu’s brush creating these creatures of her own, an army as vast as the devils that spew from the black abyss. Their sharpened fangs begin to find their marks, their savage claws begin to tear through flesh and masks once they come into contact. All over the city, there would be an all-out war, Kasu’s creations versus the simulation. To protect the city, she would not do such an act on her own, but facing off against Captain Aijo, she’d have no other choice. Had this been a real scenario, defeating the culprit of such a heinous act did not mean victory. Allowing her wolves to run rampant, did not mean that they stood invincible to these Hollows, just as easily as they could claw through them, these Hollows could do the same in destroying their adversaries. There will be casualties, such is the price of battle on a grand scale, which both Captain Aijo and Lieutenant Shinka knew far too well.

Captain Aijo had formerly faced Kasu Shinka by this point, proceeding to draw his sword, four wolves arrive in hot pursuit. One wolf intercepts the approaching Hollow at his backside before it can move past him to get to Kasu. Its fangs aiming to dig deep into the face of the creature and continue its assault into the Hollow had diminished. Another of the four wolves moved faster than the rest, attempting to latch on viciously to the arm that attempted to draw his Zanpakuto. The final two come in simultaneously, one aiming to tear out his throat with a vicious swipe of its claws, and another looking to chomp down with force on the leg of Captain Aijo while digging its claws into the dirt.

In conjunction with this assault, Kasu extends the palm of her left hand in his direction.

Hado 33, Sokatsui.

Discharged with impressive power and precision, this blue beam of energy races to Captain Aijo in an instant. Kasu aims to obliterate not only her own creations but the current Kenpachi. As she released this Kido, Kasu kept her brush in motion. From behind the Captain, the sun does not shine, instead, his backside is met by darkness, and very quickly that darkness cascades over his head, and circles around both sides, even from below. Captain Aijo begins to be rapidly covered by a metallic orb created by none other than Kasu. As the Hado nears in that instant, the blast radius would be confined to the space within the orb that aims to completely encircle and capture the Captain, limiting his choices of escaping. In other words, the Captain would experience the full force of Sokatsui with a full incantation inside the confines of this metallic orb.

Her brush was still in motion, and for what more did she plan to assist in her assault? She knew that in the back of her head, she would need to call upon a deeper power. A far more formidable one in order to save the city and to face against Captain Aijo. She also knew that calling for backup would be in her next best interest, as well as a request to release the seal placed on her person.

”Hmm…”

Oto hums to himself, an air of judgment hangs heavy around him as he watches Kasu let her wolves run rampant to combat the enemy Hollow. Despite himself being in a combat situation he was still taking notes, mentally, for the test. He continues to move as he had planned to do so regardless of his mental note taking when he suddenly feels something clamp down on his right arm, which was moving to grab his blade.

”Oh?”

With the intense gravity of his Reiatsu he crushes the other two wolves who attempted to attack and latch onto him, puddles of paint are all that would remain of them as the old man opts to draw his blade with his left hand. Shifting his hips to the left as he drew the blade increased the unsheathing speed of said blade and being a master swordsman the Iai style was already well within his rolodex of styles. In one move of his blade, he swings upward, slicing the wolf on his arm and unleashing his Shikai to redirect the Kido causing it to fly over his head. His eyes narrow with much worry as the heat of the Kido is felt as it flew overhead, he worried if he had miscalculated how much he had thrown the attack off. It was not the damage he was worried about but the loss of his hair instead. He always felt fortunate to still have a head full of healthy hair along with not all of it being gray. If Kasu had burnt away the top part of his hair he would have been distraught.

He uses Shunpo to escape the confines of the orb that was created around him and swings his blade left then right a few times at seemingly nothing in particular until five skyscrapers around them have their top halves falling down from the sky. Casualties are certain, yes, but as Shinigami the loss of a human life should not be counted as a casualty.

”Protect them!”

Oto shouts at Kasu as if he is scolding her while he takes this moment to leap into the sky and prepare a Kido attack of his own while she deals with the five falling tops of the skyscrapers. He holds his right hand out, aiming at the horizon as Reiryoku is channeled at his palm becoming a crimson color.

"Ye lord! Mask of blood and flesh, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Inferno and pandemonium, the sea barrier surges, march on to the south! Hadō #31. Shakkahō!”

The Hado is formed and launched at the horizon which at first seems odd, however he swings his blade at the orb and launches it up into the sky. He repeated this process over and over for as long as he was able to before Kasu could confront him again. The wolves and Hollow seemed to be at a stalemate but the humans in the middle of it were not faring too well as their numbers only continued to dwindle. Meanwhile, to the four cardinal directions of the city, north, east, west, and south, the very fabric of the air begins to crack. Was this a sign of malfunction in the simulation or something worse cooked up by the old man?

Kasu’s masterpiece!

Be as it may, she’d have made the call. She’d also have brought reinforcements. This type of test, this onslaught of enemies against this makeshift world, is all a part of the parameters for this specific test. Captain Aijo wanted to see how she would fare against both a strong opponent and multiple adversaries that can be a nuisance, and a distraction. What she valued in this moment did not go unchecked. Did she truly have what it takes to become a Captain? In all her time operating in Squad One, did she forget what it means to be a Shinigami?

Captain Aijo remains stoic, unbothered by the attacking wolves. While one had managed to clamp down on his arm, the others were felled by the might of his own spiritual pressure. Simply they are turned to puddles of paint, however, small drops of paint land on his uniform, seemingly unnoticeable, and perhaps nothing to truly be concerned of. Kasu is unsuccessful in deterring the draw of his blade for a moment, her wolf would meet its demise at the instant draw of his sword. His Shikai is born in tandem to said action. Now she will see what his blade is capable of.

Her Kido is thwarted, sent above and away from him. Rather than being worried about taking damage, the Captain seems to have more concern for his own hair. Nonetheless, he moves, utilizing Shunpo to escape the formulating orb and after being unsuccessful in its capture, it too has fallen and become a puddle of paint. Kasu’s eyes follow the man’s forms of movement, and the brush in her hand had a change of course, heading straight for the ground

While the Captain swings his blade from left to right, Kasu slams her brush into the ground. He severs the top half of multiple buildings, causing them to fall forward, he’d speak to her with a loud and unmistakable direction.

Protect them!

And she’d respond.

BAN!

The air instantly rattles and trembles at the sheer exertion of spiritual power exuding from the small frame of Kasu. While the wolves and Hollows continued to be at a stalemate for the moment, the tide would shift into her creations favor undeniably. Fueled by the sudden increase in power by their own creator, the battle continues with each beast tearing straight through their adversaries at an alarming rate.

With this dramatic increase in power, a large mass of liquid runs rampant across the stage, this world. Moving with an influx of colors, constantly changing, Kasu’s Bankai allowed her to reshape her environment on a whim and use it as she sees fit. Whether this entire simulation was her playground, however far it stretched she’ll use every inch not only to protect the civilians, but to beat the Captain down.

KAI!

Standing to her full height, and raising a single hand towards the Captain, her hands were covered in the same liquid that once covered the vast majority of this environment. It remained that way, shifting colors constantly.

Ye lord! Mask of blood and flesh, all creation-

The greatly small droplets of paint that had unfortunately landed on his clothing from before, she’d use it to her advantage. The raised hand closed, causing those several small droplets to change its shape into bombs and explode instantly into a brilliant flame. Such force caused an immediate shockwave. His legs, the side of his torso, and arm, such heat and ferocity would burn through fabric, skin, and muscle tissues instantly as well as severely. All of what she created, no matter how small the drop of paint was, it is still usable, changeable, and deadly.

Where his power would be used to crush her creations before, he would find it very difficult to simply thwart this increase in power, should he remain at such a level. Kasu understood greatly that Captain Aijo is no push over, but neither was she once she had let go of all reserves. Perhaps the two now will battle on equal footing.

However, her work was not finish. With the collapsing buildings in this moment, they had been stopped in their descent, her other hand being the cause of this occurrence. Not only did they stop falling, she simply reshaped them into a whole other separate building. To put it frankly, she created another skyscraper. This wasn’t all, the army of wolves were now accompanied by an army of shinigami twice their size previously. Humanoid creations with no face, wielding both the all black uniform and a plain Zanpakuto. Many moved in tandem to not only save the civilians, moving them to safe zones, areas where they can defend them with ease. Many more combatted Hollows alongside the wolves further tipping the scales of battle in their favor.

What of Captain Aijo at this moment? His plan to utilize the Incantation of a Kido has been thwarted by a sudden point blink explosion that made escaping so close to impossible. Kasu stands with several of her Shinigami surrounding her with blades drawn. No more than obedient slaves, subject to any change on a whim.

As for the north, east, west, and south quadrants of this world, did the fabric of the air continue to crack? What did it mean? Who was the cause, or rather what?

A violent explosion erupts upon Otokogi mid sentence, engulfing him in flame and smoke alike. Kasu worked hard to continue protecting the city, using her Bankai to stop the toppling buildings along with turning the tide with the battle against the Hollows. A red orb flies up into the sky from Otokogi’s location. How many human souls were lost before she realized Bankai was needed to save them properly? Resorting to just fighting the Hollows out in the open was not the wisest of moves when protecting the people is of the utmost importance. Even if she is not moving for a station that requires her to be in the World of The Living it is a Shinigami’s basic duty to balance souls above all else. Two more red orbs fly into the sky from Oto’s location as he is still enveloped in a thick cloud of smoke. The cracks in the four cardinal directions continue to grow in size until a literal “shard” of reality breaks off the northern crack revealing a glowing red eye behind it.

Moments later a Menos Grande comes crashing through the crack, igniting a Cero and sweeping it across the ground in front of it destroying buildings, paint, and killing people alike. Shortly after this the western crack shatters revealing a second Menos Grande who does much of the same as the east and south have similar results. From the outskirts moving inward the Menos sought to destroy the city by working their way from the outside in. The wind kicked up from their arrival and Cero explosions finally disrupted the smoke around Oto revealing his Shihakusho and Haori to be badly damaged from the explosions, however Oto himself seemingly fine as he sends another red orb into the sky which has now begun to glow red. Otokogi suffered damage from the explosions, multiple burns across his body and a few spots where his skin had been torn open causing him to bleed, he is a resilient old soul and this is not his first time dealing with explosions. The old man is much more durable than Kasu may believe.

He tilts his head to the left and right to crack his neck before slashing downward. The glow of the sky became a brighter and brighter red until, descending from the clouds, were multiple versions of Hado 31, all raining down on the city below. The Kido fell past Otokogi like rain but they would land upon the city like meteors if Kasu did not do something about it soon. Her Bankai seems versatile, Otokogi deduces this by just seeing it and he hopes that versatility comes into play here as he now plots to put the nail in the coffin. He holds out his left hand, palm facing downward crackling with yellow electric Reiryoku.

"Sprinkled on the bones of the beast. Sharp tower, red crystal, steel ring…”

Oto does not believe in using Kido to kill an opponent, it is too fickle and has failed too many times in his past to do so. He is strong enough for his Kido to kill another, however, he maintains his belief that it is too fickle to kill. Then why use it back to back like this? What is the point? Well, his target was never Kasu, it never has been. His objective has always been the complete and utter destruction of the city. Should this city be razed to the ground before the test is officially over Kasu will fail. This leaves her in a tough bind, protecting the City with all she has or attempting to defeat Otokogi with all she has who has thus far actively avoided direct engagement against her. It is not only Otokogi who is watching and grading her at this moment, but the Captain Commander as well.

Even at the beginning, Captain Aijo never engaged her directly. He purposely stayed away, allowing his forces to not only combat her, but to lay waste to the city. He is successful in this plan. Dividing her focus, her morales, and even her teachings to become a Soul Reaper. What has she truly learned? What has she truly forgotten? In this moment she stands as if she had time, as if she had the upper hand. Truly, Captain Aijo aims to show her otherwise.

Wooosh!

A red orb flies high into the sky.

Crrrraaaaack!

The sky opens to the revelation of a Menos Grande, a threat to the very city she attempts to protect. In its arrival a cero is discharged immediately, destroying everything in its path as it sweeps the land, taking her creations, hollows, and innocent bystanders in its wake. The winds carry on blowing the smoke away from Captain Aijo, having been engulfed by a point blank explosion. Wounded gravely, yet the old man is far more resilient. His appearance although ragged, blood pouring from open wounds, his ideals continue on. His assault is on going, sending yet another red orb to the sky’ whilst three more Menos Grande enter the scene

In this dire situation, when all hope seems to be lost, Kasu remains stoic. She doesn’t break beneath the pressure, her demeanor being as resilient as the man she faces. Her paint drenched hands rise simultaneously and through her own creation, she conjures four blades the size of skyscrapers in both length and width. Each, sprouting from the streets and through their instantaneous arrival, that speed ascends these blades towards the very skulls of each Menos, aiming to split each of their heads in two. In the midst of this her lips move, speaking towards another incantation all to herself.

Carriage of thunder, bridge of a spinning wheel. With light, divide this into six.

Captain Aijo had finally cooked up a bit of destruction of his own. Multiple red Orbs line the sky in this moment, evidence towards the proficiency of his Kido. Like meteors, they fall seemingly at the command of his falling blade, no doubt his Shikai working as a catalyst. Kasu however, would rise from the streets, as circular red glow forms on the surface of streets and even the tops of buildings. Her hands in their raised positions closed in tandem together immediately. She simply copied the spell in which he used, by creating multiple of the hado Shakkaho. Each one of his are met by her own with insane precision and speed. Their collision caused a premature explosion before ever touching the city.

The winds moved through the sky with impressive speed, evidence to the power of each explosion, and to the possible devastation that would have been caused had they landed, but having answered both the Menos Grande, and the collapsing Kido, she is still only faced with another problem. Captain Aijo harnesses his reiryoku for yet another Kido. At this point, her current position has become vacant, she is no longer visible at this moment. Is it the work of Kido?

No

All her soldiers, and her wolves moved to her will. Each subject took it upon their masters orders to extend their efforts to saving the citizens and remove them from the city. Too many lives had been lost. With her own forces having turned the tide at the emission of Bankai, there were more than enough that could remain behind to defend against the continued invasion while the citizens were carried far from the city limits by either the arms of shinigami or the backs of wolves.

Sprinkled on the bones of the-

In the midst of this, Kasu had not performed any Kido to evade the sight and senses of Captain Aijo, but instead it is her sheer speed in the usage of Shunpo. Masterful in the art, she closed the distance between herself and Captain Aijo. Blinking became his greatest enemy at this moment. In that same moment of arrival, Kasu launches a hand to grab hold of his wrist, the very wrist of the hand that holds his sword. The other would have latched onto the fabric of his clothing. From her paint drenched hands she has created chains to move with great speed to coil around the entirety of Captain Aijo’s body whether she was able to make contact or not.

Though her actions did not stop here in the slightest.

Bakudo 61, Rikujokoro.

Enhanced by both her own power, strengthened further by incantation, six points of light converge on their position and move with such speed they would not only entrap the Captain, but also Kasu in this moment, immobilizing both their movements in that moment. And at such close range, Captain Aijo would be able to witness the resolve in her eyes and now the realization she has come to. In tandem to the Kido trapping them both, a blade would pierce the torso of Kasu’s body and undoubtedly pierce through Captain Aijo. As resilient as he may be, one blade surely won’t be a problem for him. However, in the case of a 100+ blades skewering them both, how long will his resilience last then?

They were surrounded, more and more faceless shinigami popping up and moving towards them with the tip of their blades aimed to pierce through both Captain Aijo and Kasu Shinka either from her position or his. No hesitation, no remorse, and no emotions involved.

By any means to extinguish great evil to protect the innocent,” she says only to cough up blood.

By this moment 20+ blades would have been inserted through various limbs and parts of their bodies. Lungs, liver, bladder, torso, shoulder, legs, etc. Kasu aimed to take the Captain down with her.

Kasu demonstrated the versatility of her Bankai by using it to effectively deal with the Menos Grande that decided to invade. Not only this but she somehow managed to counter the raining Hado that fell from the sky. Otokogi’s body wanted to respond to this, not out of anger or frustration but out of sheer habit. He had to control himself and remind himself that this is not a battle to the death but a test instead. Having held himself back he continues on with what he was planning which was the use of an incantation for a particular Kido spell. Part way through the first sentence Kasu arrives before him, normally most warriors would be in bewilderment and shock at the sudden arrival of their opponent but Otokogi is used to being out paced there will be no jumpscare for him. Kasu grabs his sword arm thinking this will stop him from speaking only for him to throw his arm out to the side, the paint flying off of his arm violently before it can be utilized and her view of the world slowly begins to spin. He continues speaking, uninterrupted.

”Move and become the wind, stop and become the calm. Bakudo #73. Tozanshō” (倒山晶, Inverse Mountain Crystal; Viz "Falling Mountain Crystal”)

By this point Kasu was completely flipped upside down and slowly plummeted back down towards the city with great force and speed. An inverted pyramid forms around the Kenpachi, the bottom of said pyramid remaining open as he makes uses of Nijū Eishō (二重詠唱, Twofold Incantation; Viz "Double Destruction Chant").

”The sound of warring spears fills the empty castle."

She was falling far away from the Captain at this point, his voice barely even a whisper at this distance. Surely she had to be thinking about what happened to her, had she made a mistake in grabbing his sword arm? Is this the power of his Zanpakuto at work? No, it is not, what she was was feeling was the raw physical strength of the Captain using the Hakuda technique Taketonbo (竹蜻蛉,Bamboo Dragonfly) to immediately counter her grab attempt. From the perspective of these two warriors this all played out painfully slow as their heightened senses allowed it to, but from a spectators point of view Kasu appeared before Otokogi and was immediately flung to the ground below, creating a crater in the street. This negates her attempt at manipulating her paint and stalls her usage of Kido as well.
