Listen While You Read

Ill omens.

The Captain-Commander of the mighty Gotei 13 stood at the long balcony of his elegantly decorated office; with solemn eyes did he gaze out into the gray that was the Seireitei. Some distance behind him stood at attention his most tested subordinate, the one woman whom he’d grown to respect, for she was a Soul who exceeded all of his expectations. She was a master of excellence, and excellence he would require for what he was sure would come.

“Ill omens…”

Momentary silence.

“...It is as Yogenkenja foretold. I couldn’t believe it, and yet, here we are.”

Kasu Shinka, the Vice-Captain of the First Division, and the Commander’s greatest asset, would know the name Yogenkenja to be the Commander’s Zanpakutō. It was rumored to have the ability to see into the future, but to what extent, no one knew.

Another monetary silence.

At last, the Commander severed the silence. “Reports of the Third, Fourth, and Fifth meddling in strange Rukongai activity. A murdered Gate Guardian. Attempted murders of Central-Forty Six members, many from my very own family. Three Captains dead.”

He paused, his back still against his Vice-Captain. She could sense his agitation, although his Reiatsu remained excellently controlled, humming carefully for her to experience his thoughts and emotions.

“And the Eighth has reported the theft of an ancient artifact from their most sacred collections…the Fūin no Kagi (封印の鍵, seal-breaking key).”

The Commander finally turned to face his Vice-Captain. His face was as stern as always. “It seems I will need your strength now more than ever. The Central Forty-Six has requested an emergency assembly, and they seek a report on these matters immediately. You will report to them personally, and once you’re done, I wish for you to personally find me answers to these mysteries.”

Hotaka Shihōin made his way to his desk. “Double the guards at the Central Great Underground Prison,” was all he said, before uttering his final dismissal. “Dismissed.”

When Kasu Shinka arrived at the Central Forty-Six Assembly Grounds, she would be met with, and escorted by, Second Division members to the entrance. Her Zanpakutō would be confiscated, as all non-Second Divisioner’s who visited would be required to do. She would then await the commencement of the assembly, just outside the two giant doors to one of the Soul Society’s most sacred chambers.

Enter…
Head Lieutenant Kasu Shinka

BIODIVIDERS.png

With arms crossed, hands tucked into the other's sleeve, and eyes closed Kasu seemed to be far more indifferent to the transpiring matters of the Seireitei. Calm and privy, everything the Head Captain would mention today would be knowledge to her, according to the reports sitting on her desk. She need not utter a word, it is only silence and obedience that the Commander would receive. As he had come to respect her, so did Kasu, to an extent.

Commander Shihōin stands in the very position of his predecessor, one that should not have been vacant. One that Kasu deeply yearned for things to be as they once were. Unfortunately, her feelings matter very little in the current standings. Her teacher, her superior, and her friend lie only in her memories and her heart. Commander Shihōin could never replace her, or live up to her legacy, not even if it took him 10,000 years…

Ill omens…

An interesting choice of words. The Commander likely expects these events to be precursors to what is to come. Kasu stands in agreement, but remains motionless giving no acknowledgment to his words. She simply listens as silence fills the office, until it is pierced by the Commander.

...It is as Yogenkenja foretold. I couldn’t believe it, and yet, here we are.

The respective name of his Zanpakuto. He convened with the spirit, his own personal fortune teller. Does it give partial truths, or are these tales true in every detail. Can such be changed? Can such be undone? Did Commander Shihōin see the death of-

Through the silence he pierces it, and so did her thoughts and questioning be another victim. The commander continues.

Reports of the Third, Fourth, and Fifth meddling in strange Rukongai activity.

A murdered Gate Guardian.

Attempted murders of Central-Forty Six members, many from my very own family.

Three Captains dead.

Far more than three omens she’d gather. Nonetheless, none spoke of good news, especially the latter. Still without motion, without words of acknowledgment. Her ears remained attentive all the more, so did her senses.

With his back still turned, his agitation could be felt. Kasu could only think that even in these times with the situations they face, Kin Yamasaki would find wisdom. However, more news comes to light, the Commander speaks again.

And the Eighth has reported the theft of an ancient artifact from their most sacred collections…the Fūin no Kagi (封印の鍵, seal-breaking key).

Finally Kasu’s eyes are slowly opened. A seasoned gaze, magenta colored orbs lock onto the back side of her superior. Things are getting worse before they get better. The Commander finally turns around to face his Lieutenant, a stern face meets the attentive gaze of his subordinate, such eyes did not waiver nor did they show an ounce of worry.

The excellence he had seen in her is vibrant within her. How could he expect anything less from the Head Lieutenant. Her arms are then uncrossed in his gaze, falling to her abdomen and her fingers are laced together.

It seems I will need your strength now more than ever. The Central Forty-Six has requested an emergency assembly, and they seek a report on these matters immediately. You will report to them personally, and once you’re done, I wish for you to personally find me answers to these mysteries.

Her eyes follow him to his desk.

Double the guards at the Central Great Underground Prison.

Dismissed.

Her orders have been given and with her dismissal, the collected women bow with silence still clutching her vocals. The Commander expects results, he demands answers. Kasu turns away and starts towards the door, exiting the office in the same steps. She keeps going with her left clutching softly at the handle and guard of her Zanpakuto. Once she arrived outside, her Shunpo would be so swift, the air only moves seconds after she is gone.

Her landing made no sound as she arrived at the Central 46 compound, where she was met and escorted by members of Squad 2, without her Zanpakuto. While walking only to stand at the giant double doors, Kasu can only think back to the final moments of Commander Yamasaki…

Once again her eyes close, and her head tilts forward allowing the upper half of her face to be cascaded by a dense darkness. She tucked back into her sleeves. Kasu despises the idea of standing before the very people who had sentenced a being of great importance to death…

after all she had done…

If only I could have been there, when you needed me most…,” she whispers to herself.

For centuries, since the tragic Kuchiki Massacre, the Second Division’s responsibilities had been remodeled to protect the Soul Society’s law-making body: the Central Forty-Six. An integral part in recent Soul Society history, and arguably one of the most controversial bodies of government within the realm. There existed few who cared for them, and many more who despised them, especially in recent times, with circumstances being what they were.

A Division whose high-officers were composed primarily by members of the Great Noble Houses, the Second’s overall culture is as you’d expect it: dutiful, aristocratic, exceedingly competitive, and exceptionally toxic. Headed by the First in-line-heir to the Tsunayashiro Clan, Captain Nobu Tsunayashiro, the Division’s motto of “Failure falls on the decapitated” was well understood throughout the Seireitei. Either by the blade of their enemies, or their superiors, failure in accomplishing their mission would see their lives forfeit.

After what had occurred two-hundred years ago, it would be to many’s surprise that any member of the surviving Kuchiki family would join the Second, and willfully pledge their lives to a Captain born from one of their gravest familial enemies. And yet there existed Kinkō Kuchiki, a young Shinigami with immense potential, who joined the Second alongside his late sister. Through hard work and dedication to a cause he believed in, the young Kuchiki heir rose quickly, acquiring the rank of Third Seat through excellence.

With an emergency Central Forty-Six assembly called, it would be no surprise that the Third Seat had been assigned as the Officer-in-Charge of the event, overseeing the chamber’s security for the duration. As he made his rounds, word came to him that the Vice-Captain of First, Kasu Shinka, had arrived and was waiting patiently to be admitted into the chambers.

Additionally, upon the resolution of the assembly, Kinkō Kuchiki had been tasked to investigate the death of the 9th’s West Gate Guardian, for a connection between the incident and the attempted murders to Central Forty-Six members had been assessed to have occurred within the same time frame.

Life and death. Two opposites that represented mortality. It was something that Kinkō knew very well. He grew up hearing the tales of the fallen, his ancestors slain by those considered allies. Only one survivor from the Kuchiki massacre, Captain Sachiko Kuchiki of Squad 4. She was the head of the family but she had no legacy. As a result, there were many branch families with close ties to the main family. If Sachiko were to pass then one of those families would become the next main line. Kinkō was one of the possible candidates. Kinkō, and by extension one of his zanpakutō, Hikari, had experienced the losing of someone close to them. Losing his twin sister was something he had to experience and while it may be very sad, he was somewhat prepared for her passing due to how ill she had become. He still wished that there was a way to save her and that she would have been cured but alas that wasn't possible.

Kinkō closed the book he was reading and put it away. "There it is, Heikō. Another chapter read. Watch over us as we go about our days." He looked at the freshly placed flowers on his sister's grave and smiled. Every few days he would bring flowers and a book to her grave. It was a way of comfort for him. Just simply spending time talking or reading to her grave as if she was there and could speak back to him. He could hear her laughter in the back of his head and how she would tell him that he was silly. "I will be back soon and if not, it would because I joined you in the afterlife. I'm going to try to prevent that. Anyway, enjoy your rest, dear sister."

After heading into work, Kinkō was made aware of the situation at hand by his captain. He was told that there would be an emergency Central Forty-Six assembly and that he would be assigned as the Officer-in-Charge. This wasn't the first time he had been given the duty of being in charge of assemblies such as this one. Having been given his orders, he immediately set out and got to work. As he did his rounds, one of his charges approached. "3rd Seat, Kuchiki, sir! Head Vice-Captain Shinka is waiting to be admitted into the chambers."
"I will tend to it. Thank you for bringing it to my attention." Kinkō walked over to the giant doors, opening them to allow the Vice-Captain to enter the sacred chambers. As the doors opened, he stood opposite to the Vice-Captain. "Welcome, Vice-Captain Shinka. 3rd seat Kinkō Kuchiki at your service. I will be escorting you inside." He turned and started walking towards the assembly chambers. As it was his duty to oversee the security until the meeting was over, he had his team patrol the area constantly. Once they had arrived, Kinkō turned to face the Vice-Captain. "We have arrived."

Kinkō knew the importance of keeping the members of the Central 46 safe. After all, that was the primary task of the 2nd division. He had been told of the massacre of the Kuchiki and many members of the Central 46 many times. He had to make sure that something like that never happened again. Failure was not an option. This was something that everyone in the squad knew. Captain Tsunayashiro had a saying that stuck clear and even was the motto of their squad, "Failure falls on the decapitated." It may seem harsh but in their line of work, failing to protect those you were assigned to meant that you were not fit for your duty and as such you had no use.

Once the assembly had commenced, Kinkō patrolled the main area. He knew it would take a while before the adjournment. Even so, he already had orders on what he had to do once the assembly was over. The West Gate Guardian was murdered and he was to assist with the investigation. That was the problem future him had to deal with. For now, he was focused on his task.

When it was time for the Vice-Captain of the First Division to be ushered deeper into the sanctum of those who ruled over the Soul Society, an unfamiliar face came to light as the ancient dual doors opened with a moan. The young Shinigami introduced himself as the Third Seat of the Second Division, Kinkō Kuchiki, before escorting the renowned Kasu Shinka to the innermost chamber of the Central Forty-Six compound.

As the two walked, with Third Seat Kuchiki at the front, and the Vice-Captain in tow, all that could be heard was their asynchronous footsteps echoing seemingly endlessly, as if the two strode within the shadows of an eternal abyss. After what may have seemed too long, they arrived at the entrance to the Assembly. Bidding his farewell, the young Third Seat made his way back out to the main area.

What he left behind was the Vice-Captain standing before the entrance to a place few cared to visit within a single life-time.

Upon entering, she would find near pitch-darkness, unable to see with her eyes that which existed around her. Although an astute and expert spiritual sensor, she would surely see through the spiritual the forty judges and six wise men seated across three leveled platforms in wait.

When she finally made it to the center, a bright light shone upon her, and then there was silence. It lasted for far too long.

58dac38b7e053c3aec853ba194dd7550.png

“Vice-Captain Kasu Shinka, we have many questions for you,” came from high above, likely from the highest platform. “So much has gone wrong lately. Too much. We require explanations.”

Another voice arose. “Attempted murders on us. The Central Forty-Six, the heart of the Soul Society, has been threatened beyond recourse. How could this happen? How could the Gotei 13 allow this to happen? The murder of a Gate Guardian?”

Although spoken calmly, their words came with venom, evident to their obvious dig at what they believed to be an inexcusable failure on the part of their military force.

“Vice-Captain Shinka.”

Another voice, but one that the Vice-Captain would surely recognize. The most powerful and influential man within the Soul Society had spoken, Shigeo Tsunayashiro.

“It is time for you to speak, and for us to judge.”

Kinkō Kuchiki

Upon reaching the main area, Kinkō’s Denreishinki would go off. Whether he answered it or left it to voicemail, the voice of the Second’s Seventh Seat would speak.

“Good morning Third Seat Kuchiki, this is Fifth Seat Arata Shiba. I have an update on the Western Gate Guardian’s murder. We’ve received reports that Vice-Captain Munetoshi is on the scene, and that the Fourth has sent a forensics unit to assist with the investigation. We have no further details on the situation. The Captain has also given me authority to take over as Officer-in-Charge, if you believe you should commence your investigation on the connection between the two incidents.”

What was going on in the soul society? This was a question Kinkō hardly had to ask. With the recent unexplained deaths of the three captains and now the reports of the death of a Gate Guardian, there must be something happening in the background. To say that his guard was up would be an understatement. While he didn't show his skepticism to most, there were just so many unanswered questions which was why he was cautious of everyone around him. His instinct to survive meant he had to be prepared for anyone to suddenly turn on him. Even so, he outwardly displayed a sense of calm. He didn't have any idea as to who could be truly behind this. Even with the Tsunayashiro and Shihoin clans, he couldn't assume that they had a hand in this due to their actions in the past that slaughtered most of his family. While others may suspect the Captain of the 11th or other captains, Kinkō believed that more evidence was needed before any accusations were thrown around. As tragic as losing the Gate Guardian was, he hoped that this would shed some light on what was going on so that they could find the culprits and bring them to justice. After all, the overall wellbeing of the Soul Society was important to him.

After arriving at the main area, his Denreishinki started going off. He took a soft breath before taking up the device and answering it. He knew of his second set of orders but he didn't think that the orders would have been expedited. He listened as the fifth seat gave him an update. The investigation was still very inconclusive at that time which was to be expected considering how early it still was. With the captain relieving him of his duty as Officer-in-Charge at the Central 46, it meant that he didn't have to wait until the assembly was dismissed before going off to assist with the investigations. "Very well, Fifth Seat Shiba. Thank you for taking over. I will move with haste to assist with the investigation. Good luck." After disconnecting, Kinkō vanished with his shunpo and started making his way to assist Vice-Captain Munetoshi.

Revealing shadows, from fallen Light.

" Welcome, Vice-Captain Shinka. 3rd seat Kinkō Kuchiki at your service. I will be escorting you inside."

Aware of his noble lineage. Aware of the hands of death that have clutched the lives of the main Kuchiki branch. Honor still remains in the hands of this young man. How will he attain what has been lost for so long? Kasu stands as no noble, oblivious to what such status may truly mean for those who are. In all honesty, she cared very little in that regard, primarily because of what it has become in her eyes.

A cesspool of greed and corruption…

Kasu now stands in the center of it, darkness swallowing her surroundings, but not her senses. Every member of this compound is as visible as the light that reveals the letters of a book. Her magenta orbs stared into nothing, having no particular spot in mind, until a column of light fell upon her, revealing the esteemed Head Lieutenant who has stood the rest of time and has likely… overstayed her welcome

From high above her position, a member finally breaks this seemingly never ending silence.

Vice-Captain Kasu Shinka, we have many questions for you. So much has gone wrong lately. Too much. We require explanations.

The understatement of the century and as a result, the Head Lieutenant relinquishes her sight by closing her eyes.

….

Whether they await a response or not from the Lieutenant, another member speaks up, adding to the already festering issues of the Soul Society, and behind it a line of questioning. Rhetorical or did they seek answers to these specific questions?

Attempted murders on us. The Central Forty-Six, the heart of the Soul Society, has been threatened beyond recourse. How could this happen? How could the Gotei 13 allow this to happen? The murder of a Gate Guardian?

Nonetheless, their words are lick with concoction that only belongs to a viper. As if their words would affect the Lieutenant, forcing her to wallow in guilt and failure. As if she would take all of the blame and carry this burden… While such a woman as herself could very well do so, would she truly do so out of the kindness of her heart or strictly out of duty? Hopefully these nobles would know the answer to that.

A familiar voice enters, calling out to the Lieutenant by her name and title.

Vice-Captain Shinka.

Shigeo Tsunayashiro, a man of the council who is well respected and by far the most powerful as far as influence goes in the decision making process. His words Carrie’s weight, so much so that in this most he would be the only man here to garner direct eye-contact from the Lieutenant. Her unyielding gaze and mammoth level of resolve erupts from her magenta colored orbs.

It is time for you to speak, and for us to judge.

Her lips parting, her thoughts formulating and constructing into coherent sentences. Nothing she says will not go misunderstood in any form or fashion. Every word purposeful, every thought calculated. In the moment her tongue would represent the very blade she did not carry at this time.

Kin Yamasaki.

The utterance of a single name, one that would carry weight. One that would surely bring about a distasteful expression, groans, and irritation. Kasu did not care. She continues.

The late commander was sentenced to death by the lot of you. Her crime being the massacre of C46.

My point is.

You have taken the very person who brought upon a sense of peace between both the Rukongai, and Seireitei. A woman whose devotion was not for simply power and status, but respect and honor. Her death produced a ripple effect that not only affected the Seireitei, but the Soul Society as a whole.

The Rukongai is in turmoil, death and darkness plagues the very settlements that extend for miles on end. That same darkness has festered within our walls, within our divisions. The attempted assault on C46 is the least of our worries. The death of a gate guardian is simply a message, but the death of three Captains is a far greater message.

Captain of the Third Division, Ken Kure, Captain of the Seventh Division, Minori Hara, and Captain of the Tenth Division, Masaro Yasui are all pronounced dead. Our military force is dwindling, slowly but surely

We’ve only been holding on by a thread, and standing before you all serves nothing. It amounts to nothing. We have work to do. I have work to do…

Her tongue unhinged, speaking without remorse, but everything she had spoken was simply the truth. It is their decision making that will bring about the end of the Soul Society. Their pursuit of power will be their own damnation. Kasu is nothing like the late Commander. She is not as warm hearted, as wise, as loving, especially when it pertains to her job, her duty as a Soul Reaper.

She stands in silence, awaiting judgment. Will they sentence her to death on false allegations too or does her story continue from today on?

The Head Vice-Captain’s words were preposterous to the ears of the forty elders and six wisemen. With her every phrase, angry shouts of denial rained down from the darkness above. And yet, when her scathing tirade came to an end, one voice silenced the rest. Shigeo Tsunayashiro, again, took the stage.

“Vice-Captain Shinka, these are obscene allegations. Do you possess any evidence for your accusations?” His voice reverberated throughout the entire chamber. A pause in silence.

“Such insolence; it's unbecoming of an officer of your stature, Head Vice-Captain. If you continue, I’ll hold you in contempt of this Chamber of Law. Choose your coming words wisely. To downplay the attempted murders of the members of this very assembly, it seems you hold no regard for the very institution that separates us from the animals.”

She of all Shinigami understood what it would mean to be punished by this lot.

A brief silence.

“Truly unbecoming. A report of your lack of decorum will be sent directly to your Commander.”

The hushed chatter of angered members of the delegation could be heard.

“Now, regarding the deaths of three Captains, on that we can agree. Our strength wanes, as you said ‘slowly but surely’. So tell us, Head Vice-Captain, why have you, and your Commander, allowed this to happen? And, what do you intend to do about it?”

Listen While You Read

An enormous blade’s edge of vibrating red screeched as it rose to the sky, its immense power reverberating within the Fourth Division, and those adjacent to it. Surely, anyone worth their salt within the Seireitei would feel the spiritual energy screaming off the forbidden spell; Shinigami from all over the Seireitei stopped what they were doing, their full spiritual attention commandeered, many coming out of their Division buildings to look upon whatever had caused it. When the crimson edge dissipated, and its singing power diminished, all that accompanied the colorless, rising smoke cloud was an unforgettable stillness.

On the precipice of new beginnings, the cursor of history slid ever closer to the edge of an eerie quietness; it was a silence layered in three parts.

The first layer was one that played its empty tune to the physical senses. If one were to look up at the shaded sky, an already gloomy overcast would have seemed to have gotten darker, and stiller, as the clouds remained in place as if holding their breath. If one were to listen, they would find emptiness in the wake of the once sweet whispers of the wind. If one were to reach out to touch the world, all they would feel is a numbness beyond the pale.

The first of three.

The second layer was one that spoke its hollow words to the spiritual senses. It hid behind the physical in wait for those well-enough attuned to notice it. Where once the spiritual bands of Souls glowed inharmoniously across the Soul Society, existed a blank gray that spread for miles and miles, to the ends of the City of Wandering Souls. Everyone, it seemed, ceased to exist.

The second of three.

The third layer was one that existed on a plane beyond the conventional. A quietness so deafening, so overbearing, so empty, that its presence could only be perceived by those who, when confronted by a world devoid of stimulus, could completely relinquish their bodies, minds, and souls to absolute nothingness. Only then would they realize that time had stopped.

The third of three.

This was a rare brief lapse in time, a serene moment of quiet that preceded a storm not seen, and yet brewing for centuries. What seemed like an eternal silence came to a thundering halt as the world returned to color, waves of technicolor reverberating throughout the Soul Society like layers of film, and those who lived and breathed within it. The entirety of the Seireitei, and the Wandering City, trembled as the spiritual power of unburdened Souls twisted around one another in a battle of Reiatsu.

Listen While You Read

An enormous explosion of purple, larger than the Ittō Kasō that came before, erupted at Sōkyoku Hill; even those not initiated in Reikaku would sense the Captain Commander’s roaring Reiatsu, and in opposition, the equally magnificent spiritual pressure of the Captain of the Ninth, Hitoshi Shihaimono.

In the Northwestern Quadrant, the Reiatsu of the deadly Captain of the Second, Nobu Tsunayashiro, and that of the esteemed Captain of the Fourth, Sachiko Kuchiki, would be sensed at the ready to strike one another down.

In the Southeastern Quadrant, Captain Arisu Nakazawa’s radiant spiritual pressure could be felt clashing with that of the passionate Captain Kusumoto’s.

Lastly, within the First District of the Northern Rukongai, one Souls spiritual pressure could be felt across the entirety of the Soul Society, reaching out even beyond the known Districts, and drowning out all others; it was a spiritual signature so demonic, so filled with killing intent, that the blood of his future victims would be tasted upon the tongues of all; such a signature belonged to the Kenpachi, Kenta Murakami. Alongside him were two, that of the Twelfth’s Captain, Hatsumei Takaki, and that of the Sixth’s Captain, Etsuko Nakajima, the latter of which faded quickly…

With the Soul Society under siege by an immutable song, it was a miracle that the words that would soon ring within the minds of every Shinigami would be heard nonetheless. Those of a Kidō background would recognize the sensation belonging to Bakudō #77. Tenteikūra (天挺空羅, Heavenly Rickshaws in Silken Air), coursing with the spiritual signature of the First’s Third Seat. Her voice spoke clear as day, filled with shock and anger.

143afe1f902b64791c04d44cff048d06.png

“This is an emergency broadcast! This is Third Seat Takenaka!

The Seireitei is under attack! I repeat, the Seireitei is under attack!

A group of Captains, led by the traitor Hitoshi Shihaimono, have declared war against the Gotei 13! The Captains of the Fourth, Eighth, and Eleventh have joined the Betrayer’s cause!

The Captain Commander’s order is that the members of these rebel Divisions stand-down; those that follow the Commander’s orders shall be pardoned for such treason; those that defy his orders, he will personally execute!

All other Divisions are to infiltrate the Divisions of the rebels, and arrest all who do not denounce their treasonous Captains; those who resist are to be eliminated!

I repeat! Those who resist are to be eliminated!“

And like that, her voice was gone, leaving the denizens of the Seireitei to decide their course of action; a crossroads had presented itself to each Shinigami, a choice that would change the course of both their lives, and that of the history of the Soul Society.

Yet, there were a handful of Shinigami who would receive an additional message, as the respective hell butterflies fluttered to land on their shoulders…

Hachiko Goseikanjo

Captain Kuchiki’s voice…

“My dear Hachikō. I’m sorry that this information had to reach you in this way, but forgive me; Captain Shihaimono pleaded that I keep our plans away from all, even my most trusted.

What you’ve just heard is true. Captain Shihaimono leads us in rebellion against the Captain Commander, and the Central Forty-Six. The Soul Society has suffered too long, and our patience has run thin. Kō, my love, I plead to you: believe in Captain Shihaimono’s cause, and help us see it through.

My blade has crossed with Captain Tsunayashiro’s; I do not know if I will see you again…

…find me.”

Fuyuko Munetoshi

Captain Shihaimono’s voice…

“Vice-Captain Munetoshi, listen to my words; let them ignite the fire within your heart.

As you did with me, and I before you; we as the Ninth, have pledged to protect the Seireitei from its enemies, both foreign and domestic. The Gotei 13 is a shadow of itself, filled with rot that has been festering for too long; if left untreated, the disease will eat away at us all.

That is why we must defend it against itself. It is time to cut out the cancerous tumor, and allow the Soul Society to heal.

I kept my plan away for you, to protect you; I see now that it was a mistake. I hope you can forgive me.

Now, protect the Division from anyone who would seek to do it harm.”

Shin’eki Uemura

Third Seat Akinawa’s voice…

“Rusty! HELLO?! The Captain’s vanished and Vice-Captain Tsunyashiro just got woken up by that transmission! He’s PISSED! Where the hell are you?! Hurry up and get here before the Vice-Captain loses his shit!”
